 Hello all,

I am considering Nursing preferably RN and right now I am taking the pre-reqs. which I only need A&P2 , Microbiology, and Developmental Pyschology yet I am at a crossroad as to which program I should pursue.  Now I have friends that are LPNs and RNs and I've gotten both sides of the scope and everyone's opinion is different which makes it harder for  me to choose.  I've done my research as far as education, salary, ranking positions, and etc.  I have always wanted to work in a healthcare setting as a child so should I just pursue LPN to get a feel for nursing and then later go back for my RN?  As of now, I'm unemployed ( the unemployment money is for a limited time) and that is an advantage to going to school fulltime versus working and trying to pursue nursing.  I'm really shooting for Jan 2010 program but the NET test is July 30 and the appl. deadline is Aug 15, 2009.  To be honest, I'm not ready to take the NET test next week.  There is another test in October 2009 and that is for the Aug 2010 Nursing program (different campus).  I think I'll be more ready by then and my only fear is that if I don't pass NET test on either month, I still have to wait 12 months b4 I can re-take it.  I'm 36 yrs. young and I don't want to be old when I finish Nursing school.  Any advice or feedbacks???

Hi Carmelita,

I know what you are going through.  I am about to give up a professional job to go to nursing school in October.  I don't have much advice other than what I was given when I was speaking to the Admisssions Director, which I respect their program because the first year is getting your LPN then you work for 2-3 months then you can continue on to the RN program with the rest of your class (if you would like) or you can remain an LPN, its us for the choosing.  I don't know if that helps your situation or not, but it might be something you can look into and at least you can always build from the LPN level if you chose to and decide what's right for you.

PS - I am taking my entrance exams next Friday!  Good luck to you.
