The House voted Friday to lift a ban on using taxpayer dollars for needle exchange programs for intravenous drug users intended to prevent the spread of HIV and other diseases. What do you think of needle exchange programs? Are they a good idea?

It is a very very good, and, cost effective public health plan. I would like to see who voted AGAINST it. I ill have to check the congressional record. I will guess it was most of the conservative republicans...

Now if e can only reverse other damage  done by the last  8 years.... NO stem cell research.. NO condoms in third world countires etc.. we will be on the right track.

I voted NO! (no surprise there, huh) That money could be better served on PREVENTION and TREATMENT of IV drug use rather than promoting SAFE IV drug use. There are many health and social problems that come with IV drug use other than the spread of infection.

Heck yes they are good. I have had more than 1 patient come to the ER just to steal "works". We even caught one turkey looking through a large sharps bin! After that we just used the small ones but over the years we had 2 of those come up missing! Now that's desperation.

Give 'em the doggone things and exchange them without question. Help stop hepatitis and HIV.

The number one thing done in the past century that has had the LARGEST effect on longevity in this country was the availibility of Clean water and SAFE foods...... NOT antibiotics.. NOT MRI scans.. CLEAN WATER and SAFE FOOD..... both are public health issues... clean needles will not increase drug use....

' WOW man, did you hear you can get clean needles now? I have always wanted to try Ice and heroin."

I will bet that conversation has not, nor will ever take place.
