i have been out of school for a while now  i want to get into nursing the problem though is i did terrible in math, always have, i ended getting taken out of algebra class and put into a basic math class in high school  i took a fundamentals of math college course 4 years ago and passed with a b  the class was 5 nights a week so the repetiveness is what i think helped me

in all honesty is it possible for me to become a nurse where math is my worst subject?  if someone could answer this honestly i would appreciate.  are there any of you who struggled with and continue to struggel with math?

thank you for reading and look forward to your input

Anonymous,

hello.  It's not embarrassing that you have problems in math.  Alot of people struggle with this, including myself.  Depending on what degree in Nursing you want to get into will determine what math classes you'd need to take.  For example to acquire your ADN you will need either a college algebra or statistics.  For a BSN you will more than likely need both or two of statistics.  Depends on the school.  It is possible to get into nursing without being good in math.  You will probably have to study more than the other student and perhaps get a tutor.  But it is possible.

You recognize the fact you struggle with math. You are now an adult and can probably address the situation with tutoring and fellow students in a study group. I am a dialysis nurse and our company requires a 90 on their math/drug test. While I passed with a 96 one of my fellow test takers had to cheat to pass it. While I'm sure this nurse would double check dosages the point is you are not alone.

Don't let a single part of a program keep you from trying. Just do your best and don't be satisfied with "OK". Good luck

Thank you both!

I just signed up this morning for an algebra college course and posted on the community college bulletin board that I am looking for a tutor.  I really want to become an RN and with my determiniation I will do it.  I just have to buckle down and study math, plain and simple.  I am not letting this hold me back.  Thanks again for the encouragement!
