Posted 3 months ago I'm extremely excited because at the end of this month, I am finally going to be starting the CNA program at my local community college. Ever since I was a little girl, I've had my heart set on becoming a nurse. My long-term goal is to become an RN but I have heard from numerous people that getting trained as a CNA is a very good stepping stone into the healthcare field, so in the meantime I will continue to work up to my main goal. I've done extensive research on what the cna career entails, but I really would like to hear from some of you personally on what your experiences are with being a CNA and what you believe are the pros and cons of it. Also, I know you can be hired on with hospitals, LTC facilities, home health care + more, so I would love to hear which one you work at and what you enjoy most about it. Thank you all so very much! |

Starting the CNA program was soo exciting for me i just finished mine back in June. Yes it's the best stepping stone if you want to become an RN. Every CNA program runs differently . but the basics are the same. your best thing about the program is clinicals thats ur hands on learning . you will learn and see pros and cons. the biggest con of it all is is not enough pay for what we do. Pros are your gettin closer to your dream . any questions or u need help with the class please feel free to get at me ........

| Posted 2 months ago The CNA program is the best way to see if you are actually cut out to enter the nursing field. I became a CNA because it was required for me to enter the Nursing Program. I am currently working as a CNA part-time overnights and it is very rewarding. I'm actually looking at employment in the hospital setting so I can gain more experience in all aspects of the Nursing Practice. Yes every School/Program has it's own regulations but I do believe you are making the right steps. Good luck to you and please keep me posted as I we both enter this exciting field. |

| Posted 2 months ago Congratulations to all of you going to school for CNA, yes it does have it's rewards. I've been a CNA for 6 years and a PCT for 7 years. Right now I am doing online LPN classes in Distance MInnesota. But I will still be working as a PCT until I finish in a couple of years. I hope to go for RN later. it took me so long because I wasn't sure if nursing was for me, I was considering Medical Assistant or respiratory Therapist, but I realized I wouldn't be making much more money as a MedicalAssistant so I didn't go there. I would encourage you guys after working as CNA's to get into a PCT training program or sign up with a hospital and you will be able to learn new nursing skills which can help you decide if nursing is for you. Or if you want you can work as a Phlebotmist, because you learn to draw blood, do EKG's and if you get your training at a school you can even get a job doing Dialysis because of the 180 hrs. Phlebotomy. Some states even have trainng for Medication Aides. So don't stop after CNA the nursing field is wide open for opportunity! Be Blessed! Mary Kay |
