Posted over 4 years ago Okay I've heard all the names: LPN- Little Pretend Nurse, RN- Retarded Nurse, Ridiculous Nurse, Replica Nurse practitioner I've been reading alot of the comments on this site Whether LPN or RN you both are nurses! I've had LPNs and RNs work for me i really see no difference. I dont understand why you dont just ALL be called: NURSE! F* the RN, LPN title.

| Posted over 4 years ago Thank you Dr. Miller.. I completely agree with you "There are those that look at things the way they are, and ask why? I dream of things that never were, and ask why not."

Posted over 4 years ago Wow...I understand all too well. I have been a LPN/LVN for 20 yrs now. I have had RN's ask me questions! I have had people tell me I wasn't a REAL nurse. I guess that's what some stupid people think. I have always wanted to go back to school, but raising a family always came first. I actually tried to leave nursing completely and opened a small cafe. It was nice for 2 yrs, but with money so tight today, I went out of business...sad!

Posted over 4 years ago NurseNursesy says ... Here employers rather hire LPNs becaue they can pay them a few bucks less hourly than a RN they do the same work. There not phasing LPNs where i live they work in schools, daycares, hospitals, nursing homes, and jails? And there are a few nursing homes here that have LPNs as directors of nursing? I live in Idaho and the only place you can get a decent job as an LPN is in LTC. Even the jails are replacing us with MA's and the Hosp[itals wnat all RNS. It kinda sucks because I really want to work in peds but I can't because I don't have the right initials after my name. "Softly. deftly, music shall caress you. Feel it, hear it, secretly possess you...."

Posted over 4 years ago I enjoy being an LPN, and have been for 23 years so far.....I think about going back and getting my RN every once in a while, but then that minute passes, and I'm over it... "a day without freckles is like a night without stars"

Posted over 4 years ago RN's and LPN's are on the same team. period. Its horrible that there are still RN's with the RN-itis I'm afraid they wont go away either lol. I'm an RN who has always worked closely with LPN's and love the teamwork we share and have stated in more than 1 forum that me and other RN's have had their butts saved by a wonderful LPN. We only have one heart, take care of it! Angie

Posted about 4 years ago Thank you for this post! I've been reading some of the responses, and it's all good! I have been an LPN/LVN (A NURSE) for almost 34 years now. I am proud of my career. There was a time when I was resentful. When we were told that certain procedures weren't in our SCOPE OF PRACTICE anymore. I use to triage, do IV pushes with my doc there, hang antibiotics & insulin........use to do a lot of things, that only RN's do now in most states. But the one thing I am grateful for is my experience! Experience is something you can't put a title to,something you can't label! The RN initials may not be behind my name....yet. I'm almost 52yrs old now,but when a new RN comes crying that she can't cath a patient, do CPR or has the slightess idea what to do when her patient bottoms out, those initials & her critical thinking training goes out the window! Yes,I'm working on my RN now,but my experience as an LPN will never outweigh the RN credentials! Because along the way,I've learned, that experience is your best teacher, and greatest tool! When times & situations deman action, whether you're LPN,RN or even MD doesn't even matter, but with your experience you can..... save lives! I don't wannabe an RN for it's status or credentials, but with my LPN experience,I can be in a position for change. To teach others what really matters is not about the initials.....but the experience to be effective in what we do, To promote good health & save lives!

Posted about 4 years ago I think we all need to just focus on patient care instead of titles. It is true what they say about nurses eating their own and by reading this this confirms that. We are all suppose to be a team from laundry to HR, Nursing, etc..

So, I'm back to being a nurse. Anyway, I am looking into becoming a RN through on line courses. It is scarey going back to school but owning your own business was scary and harder. I guess I just want to show myself I can do it. The money is definality a factor too. Has anyone brigded over from LPN to RN on line??? Thanks for listening
. I'll probably eventually go back though?
