Hello Everyone My name is Amanda , I just found out my soon to be father in law has three days to live. The last hospital he was in they never cleaned the ports in his chest which they put in We found out today they did not do their job and now we are losing a loved one Do people who don't have the passion or stop caring realise that the person they neglected is someone's family member ? If anyone has some advice about this please leave your thoughts

| Posted almost 4 years ago I am so sorry to hear about your father in law. I am also sorry to hear about the care he has be getting. It is a sad fact of life that families have to be proactive in monitoring and advocating for their loved ones. No one else will do it. I would contact the hospital administrator and complain. Is he dying from a preventable infection, or something else? Medicare is refusing to pay for preventable infections. Have you considered hospice? It would focus on quality of life in his last days: pain control, comfort and dignity. It would allow him to die at home if that is where he chooses to be. Best wishes. |

| Posted almost 4 years ago First I am sorry about the mans illness. And sorry his loved ones have to watch him suffer. However we have only your description, which is sketchy, as to what has occured. I am not questiononing your sincerity. And if you can check any posts I have made here I am as hard on the medical field as anyone involved in it. You don't say anything but "the ports". The ports on a central line? How do you know they were not "cleaned". Why did he have these ports placed? Meaning what lead to this line of treatment? Please go to the Nursing News section on the homepage and read the story about medical mistakes. I would advise an autopsy if this truly results in his death. Do not let the body be embalmed if he passes before this is done. Then engage an attorney if it appears that negligence played a part in this mess. It won't bring him back but it can help allay the huge bills this will run up and keep that hospital from trying to collect if, in truth, it was due to their care (or the lack thereof). God Bless. |
