Hi, I was laid off from my job in the Research industry about 5 months now.  I have already obtained my B.A. in a different field and due to the economy, finding a job hasn't been easy.  I've decided to go back to school for nursing, since this was initially what I've always wanted to do since High School.  I've spoken to many active nurses and they have advised me to go into the Accelerated BSN program at a school.  I've taken their advice and have 3 schools in mind that offer the ABSN Program.  Currently, I'm taking the prerequisites for them. I just have a few questions.

Has anyone completed the Accerelarated BSN program?  How is the experience? Is it difficult to get in to these types of programs?

Is there a difference in pay for an RN-Associates Degree vs. RN-BSN?

After getting my BSN, I definately want to get an MSN, I was looking to become either a Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) or an NP.  Does anyone have any advice on any of these? I'm not quite sure what to specialize in.  I have a cousin who is a CRNA, and even though they are one of the highest paying nurses, I'm a little hesitant to have that pressure to put people to sleep.

Thanks in advance for the advice.

I would reconsider the CRNA thing... go spend time with your cousin at work... this job ROCKS.

I have already looked at the nursing specialities.  But, I have seen articles about the need for more Nurse Practitioners.

Unfortunately, I don't have time to spend with my cousin at her job because I start school soon with a full schedule.  And I think what rocks about the job is getting a 6-figure salary.

I'm not enrolled yet, just taking the prereqs now, but next year I plan to apply to the Accelerated BSN program.  I just recieved way too many advice that since I already have a B.A., go into the Acclerated BSN rather than the 2 year AS Nursing program.

I too, am a displaced worker considering a accelerated 2nd degree in Nursing.  I would also like to know how the experience was for anyone who has done this.  Thanks

While I haven't done this (sorry!) I'm starting my pre-reqs next week to get into an Accelrated BSN program.  I have a BS already and can't get a job in the field at all and finally discovered what I eally want to do.

Good luck!
