ALL patient poor behavior is excused with the umbrella statement " well hes just not feeling well" or something similar to it. Rest assured the next time Im assaulted on my job I am making a citizens arrest and calling the police and management can kiss my gluteus maximus. Never again..............................................................

I agree. I am so tired of coming home with bruises...

While I do understand that some patients are confused and feel threatened, others are not that confused, and I don't think it is right that they can be violent with us and not be reprimanded in some way.

I work in a nursing home, and it seems that we are getting more and more younger patients in with serious mental illnesses who have a history of violent tendencies. Sometimes it is scary when they get upset, because their mood is so unpredictable and one never knows how they are going to react.

I too was assaulted by a confused resident. Luckily, I have a great boss that was very concerned about my welfare. My boss informed me to report any type of assault,(no matter how minor), to her; as she will not tolerate my getting hurt.

Report "it" to who and to what end? Unless the assaulter is an ER patient the cops won't be called. Even if they were I can promise you they won't arrest anybody unless the assaulter did so in ER.

And the administration would have a cow on Monday morning if any of the staff had called the cops on some assaultive inpatient.

So again I ask - report it to who? The administration? And to what end? So they can gather statistics?
