Poll: Is there a god?

| Posted over 2 years ago Nobody posting on this topic anymore? A shame to be sure, I rather like having friendly debates about religion...please keep in mind the 'friendly' part. Maybe I can resurrect this topic with a fun question I like to start with.
Why do medically trained people believe in god? I would earnestly like to hear your explanations. Mind you, no flame wars please. |

| Posted over 2 years ago I'm a hard polytheist, but at one time I refused to believe in any deity. Why was this poll created in the first place? |

| Posted over 2 years ago Honestly, I am not sure why this poll was created, but it is a fun little topic to debate on...in the end it is utterly pointless, but it is still fun in my opinion. My main question pertains to the 'how the belief all started in the first place and how, if any, did it change upon completion of a medical education'. It is interesting to see how opinions change with the gain of education. |

| Posted over 2 years ago " When working within the medical profession, it is important to remember one thing; whether or not we share the mutual, religious beliefs of the patient we are caring for, we need to support their decisions,( Advanced Directives,Surgical Interventions, use of blood / blood products, etc.),and allow them to assert their Patient's Rights. It is not our choice, it is their choice. With regards to God; I have often questioned the existence,( being raised a Roman Catholic). I believe He is there, when he can be. *** This is all part of Life, growing up." |

just because one is educated does not mean that they do not believe in God or a "higher being". |

| Posted over 2 years ago I just want to ask a simple question that no one has ever been able to answer. If god exists and is so good, why does he let little children suffer the horrors of cancer, child molestation and child abuse? I do not want vague answers like god has a master plan. That is a cop out. Tell me, quote from the fictional bible if need be, but please answer that question. |

| Posted over 2 years ago I am willing to bet that they are going to say something along the lines of "God gave us all freewill to rape and murder as we please." |

| Posted over 2 years ago I have not heard anyone post a reply to my question below. Two months have passed and no one who believes in god can answer. |

God does not "allow" bad things to happen. Bad things happen because of sin. There was no death until Adam and Eve were tempted and disobeyed God. Once sin occurred, death occurred. Read Genesis, that's your quote you are looking for! Shan4691 |

| Posted over 2 years ago So tell me, what sin did the little children commit? A child from new born to 4 or 5 doesn't know enought to commit a sin. If you are going to say it is the original sin from Adam and Eve, then I would ask what kind of a god would punish a little child for a sin someone else committed. |

Anonymous, I suspect you'd settle for some straight answers to these questions, even if they turn out to be unsatifying ones. There may not be better answers available than dogmatic ones, but if you'd like to make some progress on resolving these questions, try consulting the folks who have probably wrestled the most strenuously with questions like yours and others like them--ordained clerics. Some priests and ministers may be accessible online. Please don't restrict your questions to Chistian clerics; consult ordained clerics from at least a few other religions, too. No one has a monopoly on truth. No doubt you'll meet with more dogma along the way. Reject it if you please; it doesn't need to lead to a dispute. But also consider that you'll meet with some straight answers. These days, many clerics are also scientists. My hope is that you will listen to yet a third kind of response when it's offered--a poetic one. Sometimes poetic explanations offer us the most truthful and satisfying measure of things. Good luck.

I has nothing to do with "what a little child did or didn't do". We are ALL born in sin and have to be saved by the blood of Christ. Besides, if you read your Bible, God does not punish or send people to hell. People send themselves to hell. It's a choice not a punishment. |

I do not believe that everyone is born with sin. Why should they be. It is hard to read the bible as anything but fiction when they tell you "Thou shall not kill' one place and in another say "an eye for an eye". Also when they talk about people being 300, 400 500 and more years old, when everyone knows that no one can live that long. I am not against anyone believing in God, Jesus, Allah, or whomever. I believe everyone can do what they like and an athiest can also. |

Whether you believe the Bible is fiction or not, does not make it any less true. You do realize that a significant part of the Bible has been scientifically proven to be true, as well as, anthropologically. Bibilical artifacts have also been uncovered over the years, too. |

| Posted over 2 years ago Religious debates....never really turns out well for anyone. There is name calling and derogatory statements from both sides. If only the world could let people believe or disbelieve without the other saying who is right or wrong. Without fighting and wars. Its not about who has the least or greatest education..it is about ones faith. Its about forgiveness and mercy towards all. There will always be a difference of opinions concerning religion. However, its about how you handle yourself, your statements, and your life. Debating is one thing. What is happening on this forum is sad. Regardless if you believe or not, I will pray for all because that is my faith. That is what I believe. CTrum. |

| Posted over 2 years ago Never any winners because it is all based on beliefs, because no one can prove the existence of God nor can anyone prove he does not exsist. |
