Hahaha, I have to admit that I personally find this discussion a tad on the interesting side what with all of you staunch religious peoples ganging up on Sevoflurane. In all honestly he/she just posed an innitially innocent question and that little quib apparently got everyone all riled up hahah.
I don't know, I do enjoy conversations about religion and whether one god exists over another god. Or if they did exist why everyone's all omniscient and ever benevelent god would allow a fellow god fearing woman to be raped several times before dismemberment at the hands of another god fearing group or men? Oh the question and discussions are potentially endless =]
You know, in my personal opinion I look at large, organized religions as the Avatar of the Evil they so denounce hahha, but that is just a personal opinion. Just look into the history of your churches, I am sure you will find something displeasing in there somewhere. Except for maybe Budism...those folks are interesting, very nice people though.
And if there is, in all reality a Being of unimaginable power and majesty floating around up there then I for one think that it is the farthest thing from anything that your bibles portray hahaha
Let's go drinking... I'll buy.

Athiests tend to be a bit more open minded than God worshippers.......
Ask a religious person what it would take for them to deny the exsistnce of God.... they would, of course, say " Nothing, even death, would make me forsake my God!!' History is full of these people.....Most are saints now....
Ask an atheist what would make him or her change thier mind... the answer would be simple.. all god would have to do is give unambiguous sign that he exists...something like a voice heard all over the world that said.. I AM GOD AND I EXIST.....or something as simple as a missing limb grown back by the power of prayer.... either would do it for me.....

Sevo................as a nurse, there are a couple of things I dont do while on the clock...............I dont talk politics with patients and if they start fussing about politicians, I find a way to change the subject like...............' has your pain inproved since I was checking on you an hour ago?', Stuff like that............and I never bring up religion, especially if its a new patient because I read the patients h&p, and my facility half the time leaves out their religious preference. If I walk in the room and they are praying, I bow my head, say nothing, quietly leave, and come back when their company has gone. i am a christian, live in the bible belt and its part of my culture, but I never took it seriously til a few monthes ago...............Im an ex-wild child,I my dream job before I graduated from high school was to be a Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader and my mom thought I was insane and had no intention of taking me to Dallas for tryouts! Im so glad Im not like that now. Its not productive ,in my case, Ive made huge bad decisions when a wild child. Oh............by the way, I was always at the cool table, but never had to work to earn that right. Im just perky. Now your athiest and I respect your right to feel any way you want to, but dude, you seem unhappy. Want me to call your brother for you/? Will you be my friend? Angie <I rarely post anon., not in my nature>
I do not share this with a patient unless that patient asks me to join them in prayer... i politely decline... if they was a holyman to pray with them before I go to sleep... I could not care less... you can have any superstition you want.
I do not discuss this with people at work,,,,, and if i patient asks me if i have been saved or am a christian I just say.. no I am not...

Anyhow, the answer to your question is that these two concepts are NOT mutually exclusive. You can have BOTH free will and an omniscient God. A person DOES have the free will to make his own choices. However, God knows the action that which the person will CHOOSE before that actual action is done.

Even yaweh of the old testament in omniscient.. and Deuteronomy is book 5 of the hebrew bible... on the ouside chance you are a muslim.. adam and eve are in the first surah of the koran I think it is Al-Faitha.. and allah is omniscient as every surah opens with that concept...Am I missing any other monotheistic religions that recognize Adam and Eve?... I hope I have covered all the bases... the only other monothiestic I can think of is zoroastrianism.... while they pioneered the idea of one god and hevane and hell ( I think the concpet of hell is not a well accepted on in the jewish religion) they had no adam and eve......let me know if i missed something along the way..
Yes I made the mistake of assuming you were christian.....

If the choice is known before the action takes place...... it is predetermined.. therefore no free will...people throught history have been trying to justify free will AND an omniscient god... not have ever stood up to critical logical analysis.

NO I am saying they DO have adam and eve.. genesis is the first book of the christian AND jewish bibles..even MUSLIMS have adam and eve...
I am saying the concpet of HELL as an eternal punishment ... is rather fuzzy in orthodox theology..it maye be a concrete concept in reformed or liberal congregations...

No that is exactly what I am trying to explain. The action is NOT predetermined.
Allow me to illustrate with the following example. You are a mom and you have an adorable two year old toddler. You offer your toddler the choice between a lollipop and a bowl of spinach. Most moms can tell you that they know that their child will choose the lollipop. Can the child choose the spinach instead? Absolutely!
I am not suggesting that humans are on the same level of an omniscient God, but this is just an example to illustrate my point.

Gotcha. Yes, Adam and Eve are central figures in Judaism.
With regard to hell as eternal punishment, that is where you are a little bit off. Judaism views hell as merely a cleansing process for the soul. After that cleansing process occurs, the soul goes to heaven. It is not in any way eternal damnation.

You are wrong my friend, It is absolutly possible to have both, God gives us free will because he loves, but also wants us to make the right choices. Again, atheist or not, I strongly urge you to read "The Shack". My eyes were opened. I am not overly religous, but I do beleive he is there.

You still havent answered the question, what is your issue, you obviously have one. You try to start crap wherever you go, I have seen many many of your posts, not amny of them are nice, alot are rude and make you look like a pompous jerk. Didnt your mother ever tell you if you cant say anything nice dont say anything at all? And yes I realize I broke the rule, but someone has to take you down a peg!
So much anger.... have you looked into therapy? If you get this upset over a forum on the net... something that you could easily have avoided by NOT looking at a poll asking about something you are obviously NOT... I am curious how you handle things you do agree with in real life.
As for taking me down a notch.... methinks you think a bit too much of yourself.
Really? Well "methinks" You are the pot calling the kettle black. I am "this upset" merely stating the facts of what you tend to be doing all over this site. Take your own advice mister. And for your information I handle real life just fun. And I never stated anywere what my beliefs were, you just assume. You know what happens when you assume right?

I have noticed that the issue with Sevoflurane is that he/she hates God. That is his/her right. We all have a choice in life. But, in hating God, he/she has decided to attack Christians, and even go so far as to enter Christian groups on NL and attack the posters views in there. If you don't believe, then stay out of the Christian groups. Unfortunately, you seem like you are full of hate for a lot of things. I'm not sure why, or what may have taken place in your life, but I do feel sorry for you.
TCotteen
Sevoflurane not only hates God, I think he hates everyone, including himself. Has anyone ever gone to his profile? You will notice he has no friends. Not even the two staff members who are friends with everyone. I can sure see why. I think he is on here for one reason only, to post obnoxious and offensive remarks. It doesn't matter what forum he goes to, he is never nice. I ignore his posts now and just go on to others that are non-haters.
Come on now, Sevoflurane needs prayers. Besides this stuff just feeds them what they really want.

I do not believe in god because I have never seen any evidence that he/she exists.
I have always wondered why most religions (christian, judism, muslum ect) believe in one god, but the actions of that god are so different. Also why do some people believe in many gods.
I also wonder about praying to god. Most people will say that god has a plan for everyone. If a young child dies, it is "god's will" or "god has a plan for him". Well if god has a plan for everyone, how arrogant are those who pray to god to change things.
If you want to believe in god, that is fine, but do not insert him/her into others lives, into politics, into education or anything else.
OMG, maybe you must be in a living hell right now, thats why theres not even a shade of kindness and love in your heart...that is just so sad honestly. Do something about it, you're being here in the world is a proof that God exists...

I am aware of this...I was refering to an eternal hell... orthodox hell is similar to catholic purgatory.... there is an exception to temporary hell in judaism... If I recall correctly pahroah is damned to eternal hell.. I think there are special case exceptions.

Why is it so hard for people who believe in god to realize that many people do not believe? Also, why are they a "bad" person because I do not believe in god? I have no problem with someone else believing in god at all. Why should someone have a problem of me not believing? Also, and this is what really gets me mad, why do people who believe in god make it their business to try to make me believe also. If they believe I am going to burn in hell, what is it to them? Why do they care?
When I look at the original post on this forum it says" Are there any nonbeluievers out there?" It sounds like someone wanted to start a forum for nonbelievers, but right away the believers got on and started trying to make the nonbelievers chance and believe in god. there is a forum for christian nurses, why can there not be a forum for atheist nurses with out the believers joining in?
Oh, by the way, I am not Servoflurane, and if he is an athiest as I am we do not need your prayers. You may want to give them to us if it makes you feel better, but do not do it for us, because we do not care.
