When I look at the original post on this forum it says" Are there any nonbeluievers out there?"  It sounds like someone wanted to start a forum for nonbelievers, but right away the believers got on and started trying to make the nonbelievers chance and believe in god.  there is a forum for christian nurses, why can there not be a forum for atheist nurses with out the believers joining in?

Yes, the title of this forum is Atheist Nurses, however, I beleive there was also a poll at the beginning asking if anyone beleived in God.  This prety much opened the door for anyone to reply.

Every person on here is just exercising their freedom.  You may not believe in God, but you probably believe in freedom, don't you?

Noone can believe unless they have heard of God, and have seen him work in their lives. I have ran across alot of Atheist in my life, and alot of heathens, the guy working on my house is a Atheist, he half believes there's a God, because he always talks about the after life. He doesn't believe Jesus is the Christ, he even said Jesus was dirty, and he said that he wanted to worship  Budda, so, isn't Budda a God, so, isn't a Atheist against any kind of religion worship any god's? Everyone has the right to believe in what they believe in.  Who are you to judge people for thier beliefs?

If you don't like it move on, no one ever said you need to be a replica of the next person, be yourself, stand up for what you believe in and don't know others for what they firmly believe in.

Not sure if the previous post was directed at me or not, but if so, I don't recall judging anyone or making any judgmental statements.  I also have not stated my own position on this topic, so it would be a tad difficult for me to judge anyone without giving my position away.  If the previous post was directed at someone else, I apologize.

Why is it so hard for people who believe in god to realize that many people do not believe? Also, why are they a "bad" person because I do not believe in god? I have no problem with someone else believing in god at all. Why should someone have a problem of me not believing?  Also, and this is what really gets me mad, why do people who believe in god make it their business to try to make me believe also. If they believe I am going to burn in hell, what is it to them? Why do they care?

When I look at the original post on this forum it says" Are there any nonbeluievers out there?"  It sounds like someone wanted to start a forum for nonbelievers, but right away the believers got on and started trying to make the nonbelievers change and believe in god.  there is a forum for christian nurses, why can there not be a forum for atheist nurses with out the believers joining in?

Oh, by the way, I am not Servoflurane, and if he is an athiest as I am we do not need your prayers. You may want to give them to us if it makes you feel better, but do not do it for us, because we do not care.

Buddah is not technically a god in the judeo-christian-muslim sense.. he was a teacher with no special powers.... buddhists do not worship a god per se.. but seek enlightenment on earth to allow them reincarnate as a human....animal.. or spiritual being.. depending on one's karma.... thoughts , words and deeds. On the other hand if you are a buddhist you are not an athiest.. Athiests do not believe in an afterlife,, spirit, soul etc....we believe what we have here on earth is all there is. This life is it and you should live it as you like without infringing on anyone elses rights.... essentially the Golden Rule... the basis for all modern religions.. only we think it is the right thing to do without fear of eternal damnation, hellfire and brimstone......and we do not have a problem with not believing in the supernatural....

Your freindly neighborhood atheist.. SEVOFLURANE.

No that is exactly what I am trying to explain. The action is NOT predetermined.

Allow me to illustrate with the following example. You are a mom and you have an adorable two year old toddler. You offer your toddler the choice between a lollipop and a bowl of spinach. Most moms can tell you that they know that their child will choose the lollipop. Can the child choose the spinach instead? Absolutely!

I am not suggesting that humans are on the same level of an omniscient God, but this is just an example to illustrate my point.

No that example is like saying..you have free will to choose a flaming stick in the eye... or...5 night stay at the Bellagio in Vegas... of course you can with ALMOST certainty pick the outcome..... operative word here is ALMOST

Let us use a different example.... you give your child butterscotch or chocolate pudding.. and you do not know their preference.

You canot predict the outcome.... and if you COULD WITHOUT FAIL pick the outcome of two essentially equal choices... there is no free will involved. It is predetermined.

The essential difference is we as atheists are misguided. We do not care if you beleive or not.. all we want is those beliefs kept OUT of our government and we want LAWS based on science and logic and fairness.... we think it is silly for laws forbidding sales of certain beverages on sunday to be enforced.... we only think you are misguided .. YOU god believers think we will burn in hell for eternity...I think as a group we are much more compassionate....we don't think you will suffer for your beliefs.....

I really dont want to seem like I am pushing any beliefs on anyone, so please dont take it that way, this is just really interesting to me. You all took A&P right? How in the world do you think the body works in the wonderful ways that it does with some creator mastermind behind it? How do the flowers grow? How do the animals mate at just the right times? Sure there are specific scientific explanations for it all, but how did that first person ever come up with that knowledge? How did someoen ever get tjhe idea to make Internet? Or invent anything for that matter? You think that stuff just HAPPENS? Science and God can and do coexist, how can you have one without the other?

Kind of a what came first, chicken or the egg theory. I think, if not dont blast me, just stuff I have always wondered about.

I do not believe in god because I have never seen any evidence that he/she exists.

I have always wondered why most religions (christian, judism, muslum ect) believe in one god, but the actions of that god are so different. Also why do some people believe in many gods.

I also wonder about praying to god. Most people will say that god has a plan for everyone. If a young child dies, it is "god's will" or "god has a plan for him". Well if god has a plan for everyone, how arrogant are those who pray to god to change things.

If you want to believe in god, that is fine, but do not insert him/her into others lives, into politics, into education or anything else.

People who believe in God can't help but do that.  It's part of having faith.

How intrusive people do that is a different issue.  Fundamentalist Born Agains and members of other evangelical religions think it is their duty to convert others.  Others practice their faith more quietly even though it still affects their politics, education, and profession.

Those who understand their faith do not fall on "gods will" to describe human suffering.  God does not will that we suffer.  We suffer as a consequence of our own choices:  as individuals, as a community, as a culture.  And sometimes there just is no reason why we suffer.  Those who use "gods will" to explain why they suffer are using God to explain away the bad in their lives, and avoiding both the consequences of their own choices and the wonderousness of the greater world in which we live.

We can ask God to change our lives, but at best we can only expect His loving support while we make our own changes.  God does not change the roll of the dice once they are cast because we are the ones who cast them.

You should take a course in comparative religion.  The history and backgrounds of different religions makes for fascinating study.

But to the point with, were you ever in a Foxhole, better known since the seventies as a DFP (Defensive fighting position), or in a war at all in your military time.  There are many troops that are in during wartime, yet do not serve in the actual war itself.  I'm in flight nursing in the US Air Force now with several tours behind me in the two fights we have on the burner now and served in the US Army Infantry before that during desert storm.  So besides saying God speed to you Sir and praying for you I'll repeat the Question that was implyed by 'Anonymous' writing - "There are no atheists in foxholes."  Either way God bless you too and I hope your day goes well (no hate intended).  Amen

Sadly, I can relate to the atheist. I was raised catholic.  Church every Sunday, communion, confirmation- did all that and then some.  As time passed it all seemed more and more ridiculous to me.  I never understood anything the priests were talking about (is that even English)lol!  I was more interested in the beautiful architecture and the amazing stained glass windows.  When I was in my teens my grandfather became ill and though I prayed with all my heart and soul for the Lord to heal him.  He died after 3 weeks later in the ICU.  That’s when lost total faith. I too felt I needed to see some type of proof in order to "believe".  As I got older I began searching for answers in other religions. I then began meditating a couple of years ago- and boy was I in for a surprise!  Around this time last year while meditating- I got my proof!!!  Everything became clear to me.  All my questions answered all at once There is no doubt in my mind that there is a God.  I see proof of the Creator/God daily, and I feel silly for ever doubting.  The signs have always been there.  You will not find the answers in any worldly religion. We must look within ourselves to find our truth.    I'm not trying to shove my beliefs down anyone's throat here (“my truth" may not be the same as "your truth").  This discussion seems to be a little bit one sided- so I just wanted to let the atheist’s know that I see, and understand your point totally.   It took me about 20 years to get my proof- until I directly asked for it.  Have any of you tried this?  Or are you totally convinced there is nothing out there?  Just curious....

And what gives them the right to convert others to their religion. Why can they not just worship their own surperstitions and leave others alone.

Why should I take a course in comparative religions? I am an athiest, I do not believe in any superstitions so it would be just a course in compatative superstitions.

Learning about religions is one of the things I do. I have read the New and Old Testaments, Book of Mormon, Koran and the Bhagavan Gita. I actually have copies of the koran and Book of Mormon on my iphone to read when I have some time to kill. The Koran and the Book of Mormon were by far the most disturbing. I Must say the Koran made the most sense as it was written or rather dictated by one man, Mohammed was illiterate. And I thought long and hard about the messages in each. They have nice stories and parables... but if any member of the religions who follow those books really sat down and read them, they would see how silly they are.

The reason I started this thread was to see if any atheists would come out of the closet. We are reviled in almost every cuture... except maybe France where a good portion of the population claim non-belief.

As you can see the believers are VERY defensive about what they believe and are quite militant when confronted with an opposing view.

The more science you take.... the less you will believe in god...... usually.

Yes I took a LOT of A&P...500 and 600 level classes... and life boils down to biochemistry.... proteins specifically.

If you believe in evolution... the chicken or the egg conundrum is easy.... the eggs came first... laid by a bird that was not QUITE a chicken... but the offspring was about to mutate to a chicken...evolution is nothing more than useful mutation.
