Can prayer alone cure disease? Does god cure people if they pray hard enough?

I don't necessarily believe that a person has to pray "hard enough" to receive a miracle.  It is God's decision what he does; regardless of what we might do.  Remember; a person can't earn his favor, but one thing is for sure; a person must believe in Him in order to receive Him.  So; if he heals a person with a miracle, he has extended that person's life on Earth.  If he does not; the believer wins the ultimate and eternal reward, the non-believer reaps the eternal consequense.  Like a previous poster said; the believer has everything to gain by believing and the atheist has everything to lose by not believing.

If god can cure diseases why does he ignore the prayers of amputees? No one has ever regrown a missing appendage.

What does the atheist have to lose by being a non believer? I am an atheist and when I die, my body and mind will be no more. Just like everyone elses. We go no where, our mind goes no where and our "soul".....well what is the soul? Has anyone ever found a soul in a person? We know so much about the human body and no one has ever found a soul.

Religion is a crutch for those who can not think for themselves.

I took care of a National Geographic photographer who was dying of Cancer back in the 90's.  He was at death's door, and was crying for me to offer some comfort to him.  He was an athiest.  I could offer him no spiritual comfort.

Maybe he didn't want spiritual comfort, maybe he just wanted someone be there and talk to him as he ended his life. Comfort does not have to be spiritual.

Perhaps the amputees are NOT praying for God to regrow their appendages.

Good point. I had not considered that. But you would think god would regrow juts one leg, arm or finger just for grins.

I think we know God is not one who sits back and laughs, or grins for that matter.

Everything He does, or doesnt do is something we will all know someday. For now we just take what is given to us, be thankful for what we DO have, and know that someday we will know why. He may not grow back limbs, but those are some very strong people there with a lot to share.

So god's healing powers are limited to internal diseases such as cancer, infection etc.?

I would like to know why he wont regrow limbs.... if people think god can cure disease.... please explain why he won't regrow  a leg.

SEAG answers:

If there is no God, the atheist only loses his Earthly life like everyone else.  If there is a God, who promises eternal life for all believers like my God does, the atheist will suffer eternal damnation.  I don't claim to have all the answers, but I can tell you my experience.  More than 20 years ago, I was agnostic.  I was at a very low place in my life; a predicament that deemed me helpless and hopeless.  I had no desire to go on living the kind of life that I was living.  Out of desparation, and as a last resort, I prayed sincerely that if God were real that he might reveal himself to me.  He saved me from the scrap heap, and the seed of faith was planted and has grown since then.

What I do know is this.  Like me; if you have never sought to know Him, and have never experienced a revelation, how can you dispute whether he is real or not.  Prior to that day, I mocked Christianity; even after attending Catholic schools for 12 years.  I never bought what "they" were trying to sell me.  The fact is; there was some very bad representation that was actually diminishing God's credibility.  That turned me away, and caused me to rebel.  I mentioned that it was out of desparation that I took the risk and called out to God.  I finally realized that I didn't need a mediator to appeal to Him like I had always thought.  If my appeal hadn't been acknowledged, I probably would be dead today.  By the way, I am no longer a Catholic.

If you sincerely call on God, and he doesn't acknowledge you, come back and tell me I'm full of it.  I remember what it was like when "Jesus freaks" were thumping their bibles at me.  I also thought they were "out there" or "over the top".  Actually, I wanted some of what I thought they must have been smoking.

I've been on both sides, but now I'm debating in favor of God because of my experience, and the changes that have occurred in my life because of that faith.  If  you have always been an atheist or agnostic, there's only one way to know if what I am saying is true or not.  If you refuse to make the attempt, and rely on what scientists and other non-believers say to support your position, you really can't speak with any authority or credibility; it's only an opinion.

P.S...........I still have issues with organized religion even though I do attend church.  I finally realized the difference between religion and spirituality.  My God will never steer anyone wrong, despite the fact that many religious leaders do.  They are only human I guess.

I agree with you SEAG on organized religion. It is the leaders that lead people down the wrong path. How many times have we read about the leaders of our churches doing something wrong, this should not diminish ones spirituality. I believe in God, but I do not attend church. I feel that churches, no matter what denomination, want to make everyone feel guilty for everything they do that violates the church's standards. I also believe that organized religion is money centered. They are always asking for money. The God I know is available and takes care of people the same, rich or poor.
