I have several questions for those experienced individuals who changed from a 9 - 5 career/job to become a nurse, LVN or RN, it doesn’t matter.
I was wondering:
- What were you doing before?
- How was your transition (did it take you long to adjust, responsibilities, hours…)?
- Did it take long for things to click; for you to feel comfortable?
- What did you find the hardest or most confusing?
- Is there anything you know now that you wish you knew when you switched careers/jobs?
- Are you happy with your decision?
- Any suggestions for career changers?

My question is, did you do it for the money and job security? Cause if you did, dont be my nurse.

How was your transition (did it take you long to adjust, responsibilities, hours…)?
not to long after all the hours put in at school the 3 12 hour shifts was great.

Did it take long for things to click; for you to feel comfortable?
Some things I'm still not comfortable with after 5 years but with nursing if you get to comfortable or think you know it all something bad will happen
-
What did you find the hardest or most confusing?
reading EKGs
-
Is there anything you know now that you wish you knew when you switched careers/jobs?
I should have done it along time ago. I should have went in to nursing first.
-
Are you happy with your decision?

Any suggestions for career changers? Don't do it for the money or the job security do it because you feel you have been called to care for people because you have a strong caring heart. Yes strong because I don't care how good you are patients will die and you have to have a strong heart to carry on. You have to have a caring heart because someone cold or hard hearted will never connect with the patients and that's just not nursing. Just know it's the hardest job you will ever LOVE if it is really for you. You may see the deepest sadness or the greatest joy in the same day. Nursing is like a roller coaster full of highs and lows but at the end of the ride (day) you're back on level ground only to do it again.
