Posted over 3 years ago Hello everyone! I just enrolled in Excelsior LPN to RN transition program. I was wondering if there is anyone who already took the exam and is interested in selling their RUE Publishing books? I need to study for the Transition to the Registered Professional Nurse Role exam. Or- does anyone know what the name of the book is so that I can look for it online? I went directly to RUE but I can't afford them right now (I couldn't find the name of the book either). I'd appreciate any help in where to look- THANKS! -Jessica. | Posted over 3 years ago Is this really the only course you have to take? I am doing the same program but have many courses. "Softly. deftly, music shall caress you. Feel it, hear it, secretly possess you...." |

| Posted over 3 years ago Sorry Jen- let me clarify that. You're totally right- Transition to the Registered Professional Nurse Role is the name they give the LPN to RN transition program. I took Nursing concepts 1 already. They allow you to skip the 2nd exam (they give LPN's credit) and go directly to nursing concepts 3. I'm trying to study for NC3 but Excelsior's study guide is kinda vague. I purchased the RUE book for NC1 and I breezed through the exam. I found the pre and post tests in the back of the textbook to be essencial in passing the exam. I found that most of the practice questions in the textbook were practically the same as the ones in the exam- just worded differently. The RUE books are a bit pricey, but they are to the point. Have you taken any exams yet? Which books are you using? Congrats by the way! Striving to become a better human being daily. My patient's make me a better person.... |

| Posted over 3 years ago I got my books through the college network. A little dissapointed in them, overly pricey, main issue. But I am still working on my prereqs. Love hate relationship with this method lol. NC 1 was no longer offered when I signed up, they are named different now. But I still got to skip the second one. How are you doing with the self motivation? That seems to be my roadblock. "Softly. deftly, music shall caress you. Feel it, hear it, secretly possess you...." |

| Posted over 3 years ago OK dont laugh- but I took nursing concepts 1 about 2 years ago! I have the same motivation issues!LOL I was so boosted up to begin the program that I did all my prerequisits in 2 semesters- then after I took my first exam and everything came to a hault. I didn't have the money to pay the enrollment fee with excelsior at that time. I soon lost interest. My fiance was in the military at the time and stationed in Colorado. I looked into a travel nursing agency in Colorado, and ended up moving over there. I was there a little over a year (amazing expierience). We are now married and came back home. These past couple of years have been nuts! I really need to finish my RN though. I feel like I have no direction on what to study for exactly. If I actually go over all the books an recources that is in the excelsior study guide it would take me another 2 years! Striving to become a better human being daily. | Posted over 3 years ago sashaj- I don't have any of my books any more, but I graduated from the LPN to RN program through Excelsior. I recommend it totally. I, like Jenny, went through College Network. I liked their books, had no problems passing any class. Let me know if you need any help or have questions. |

| Posted over 3 years ago I reccomend you go back to the excelsior web site to look at the classes, NC calsses are no longer valid after sept 15 or something like that. They changed them. Added one more course I think. They are now called health differences acroos the lifespan 1, 2 and 3 and esentials of nursing care 1, 3, and 4 ( #2 skipped) And then Transitions. Dont worry about the length of time lol my record is sad, going on 2 yrs now and I have done 4 prereqs, working on my 5th now. I took a month off because I just got so burnt out and plan to start up again next week lol. Plan is the key word. I know I cando this but when there is no one telling me when the test is or when this is due I kinda slack off, ALOT! lol keep at it! We can do this! "Softly. deftly, music shall caress you. Feel it, hear it, secretly possess you...." |

| Posted over 3 years ago Thanks for clearing that up for me. When I first started with Excelsior the exams were NC1,2,3 ect... I'm a bit confused though because my advisor told me to start with Transition to the Professional Nurse Role first. Shouldn't we be going in order? I think I should be studying for Chronicity first? I don't know. I just emailed my advisor about that. As per the lack of motivation- Have you tried paying/scheduling an exam in advance in order to help motivate you? For example: Lets say, today I paid/scheduled my next exam to be taken September 30, 2009. I know I will only have about a month to study for it. I think this method will help my motivation since I will be giving myself a sort of "deadline". I think I'd get a lot more studying done this way. I'm trying it just as soon as I'm clear on which test to take next! LOL Good luck! Striving to become a better human being daily. My patient's make me a better person.... |

| Posted over 3 years ago I have thought about that. I just get so scared, the what if's you know, what if I'm not ready by then, what if I fail and and have to pay for it over again blah blah. It took me about 6 months to get through Micro and A&P because I focus on every stinking detail to afraid to actually committ to the test. Bad I know. I have joined a yahoo group for excelsior students and see people on there taking and passing tests in 2-3 weeks. I would be a nervous wreck if I did that, plus with my job 40+ hours and my family and all the other obligations I could never do it that fast. I always let my anxiety get the better of me. I totally understand. I did my prerequisits online at the local community college. It was soooo easy and inexpensive- that's how I was able to knock em out in a couple semesters (I went to class Sat. mornings for the labs). We did 1 assignment a week (usually due Sundays before midnight). And we just had to log in 3x a week to participate in that week's forum. All exams were online so they were open book. Since your schedule is so busy this might be a good option for you. We have to get our RN's!!! We work too hard and do not get paid enough! It's a small sacrifice- but the pay off is going to be soooo worth it! Striving to become a better human being daily. My patient's make me a better person.... |
I just ordered a cd study guide for the nursing concepts 3 exam on ebay- I'll let you know how it goes... Dont give up!!!
