| Posted over 3 years ago Have you researched the schools in your area? They should list that on their program information pages. Good luck! :) |

| Posted over 3 years ago Welcome to the world of competition...Nursing schools are quite popular as the default position for every person who was downsized in this recession. There is no way around getting into a program with Cs when the other students have Bs or As..
You say you do not want to waste your time taking the classes over...If this is how you feel about doing something that is REQUIRED to get into school... how committed are you to actually working hard IF and WHEN you do get into a nursing program?
Taking the courses over is the right option. |

| Posted over 3 years ago Im not sure how competitive your school's are but the CC I was enrolled at in Upstate NY was very competitive 48 spots to 300+ applicants. I had a 3.36 GPA and was denied admission to the nursing although I didnt have A&P 1 done yet and they prefer the students that have that class finished. I had a friend who had about a 3.0 GPA and she WAS accepted but she had A&P 1. I am now attending a CC in Fort Myers FL and my hubby and I are relocating to that area. Im working on the pre reqs and Gen Ed classes here now in hopes of getting into their fall 2010 program. This school goes by a point system 25% is GPA from all Gen Ed classes completed, 25% GPA from those classes, 50% from HESI pre adm. nursing test. I would suggest calling the dean of nursing at the schools your looking at and finding out the requirements. Good Luck and I hope you find a program thats right for you! |

| Posted over 3 years ago thanks so much to all the replies. really appreciated. on the other end, i don't really need anyone asking how committed i am to the program. i know how much i am, and how hard the program gets. i just want in. i am WILLING to relocate so i can get in faster as oppose to retaking classes. like with all the classes i have now which schools will accept me so i can get this going. DON'T SAY THERE or their ARE NONE. I KNOW THERE IS. that is why i am asking.
seriously sick of people putting their two cents in. putting me down. asking questions, as if i didn't ask myself already. i just want answers not advise. sorry if u didn't mean it that way. just at that point in the prereqs where i have all my classes but am not up there with the gpa.
i am going to apply in the winter and if i don't get in anywhere, i will retake a&p 1. that should put me up there and also with my cna license that should help in portland. a girl that i met at work said that she was moving to new mexico. telling me how easy it was to get in the program. i didn't even think to ask where she was going or ask for her email. i am now asking everyone. someone has to know out there just need to find them |

| Posted over 3 years ago Then why did you post here in the first place if you "didn't want people putting their own two cents in?" This is a public forum, hon. Post something like that and you get the whole kitchen sink. Asking about your committment is a relevant question. You can get into the program where I teach (North Carolina) with Cs, but the odds are not in your favor because you don't get ranking points for C's, only B's and A's. Most students at my CC retake courses when they get a C. We usually have over 300 applicants for our Day program, but only have about 80 seats. Nursing schools are comptetive and can afford to take the cream of the crop. In fact, we strive for that in our admissions process. If you have mostly C's, you are not the cream of the crop and that will hurt your chances against those students who ARE willing to go the extra mile for A's and B's. I have no idea what schools will accept you. You will have to contact schools you are interested in and ask them what their admission requirements are. Some may have a minimum GPA, and/or require a nursing admissions test with a set minimum score (my school uses the TEAS test, you must get a 75 percentile before you are even ranked no matter how good your grades are). Some schools require you to have taken CNA training first (mine does, and we don't accept EMT as a substitute for CNA). Admission requirements vary from school to school. In other words, you are going to have to do some legwork to find out what schools you have a chance of getting into. |

| Posted over 3 years ago 2 of the schools I am considering have different application processes. The CC requires passing a TEAS test, completing the prerequisites (all with a C or better), sciences must have a combined GPA of 2.5 or better. You have to pass drug test, physical and dental exams and THEN you sit on a waiting list for 2 years. So, your C average may get you there, but not necessarily any faster. The state university still requires all of the above but they have a point system instead of a waiting list. Points are based on grades in all classes, any experience you have working or volunteering in the medical field, etc. They take 100 new students each Fall (only in the Fall, none in the Spring) and have 500-600 people vying for those spots. If you don't get in this Fall, you apply all over again for next Fall and hope for a 1 in 6 shot again. I may be a skeptic, but I don't think a C average will earn the points required. I have a 3.5 average overall with 4.0 in all of my math and science classes and I'm concerned about getting enough points at the state university. I have 3 pre-reqs to take still and I am determined to do everything humanly possible to get those A's. Good luck and I hope you find what you're looking for. |

| Posted over 3 years ago Hi Liz, We have an online RN to BSN program which accpets transfer credits from classes that you have achieved a "C" or better. Here is our page on transfer credits. Are you an RN? If not, our nursing school requires previous coursework grades of C+ or better. |

| Posted over 3 years ago I'm not sure where you're at, but here in FL even 4.0 GPA's didn't get into our program this year. However, here if you apply and you don't get in the next year you receive bonus points. You might want to check and see what the applications at various schools look like. Most have something posted online so that you can see what it looks like. However, if that's not gonna be good enough with the C's I would say if its what you really want to do I'd re-take the classes. I could help if you need some help.

| Posted over 3 years ago most programs I know of want a "C+" average. check your area and ask around. I do know programs that have waiting lists, so a good average wouldn't mean anything at that point. hope you have some luck soon! |
