Amazing how so many people can form an opinion and express it civilly, disagreeing politely with others, where a couple here (including a few with so called "advanced" educations) cannot seem to open their mouths without some whining, sarcastic smartass remarks.

Oh dear, Rich White Men are trying to control us!

For those of you who have not participated in sites other than Nursing Link, believe me, you find this all over - there are just a lot of people (liberal, conservative, whatever) who feel they will attract the most attention and impress the most people by being name-calling jerks. It's the only way they know of to express themselves.

Best thing to do:  Ignore them and go on with the reasoned debate...

I agree, Captain.  Not to mention some of these same individuals are the ones crying foul over race...I'm a racist if I dislike Obama's politics and do not wish to have his liberal agenda pushed onto my children, even though they themselves are of mixed race. I clearly cannot simply dislike the views and opinions of this person and still be colorblind according to some.  If Obama were white would I still be called a racist, because I guarantee that if he was I would still dislike him.....interesting.  However, the same individual can use an expression like "rich, white men are trying to control us".  Don't forget about the women...we want to control you too.  Sound ridiculous?  That's because it is.

Religion in public schools? I have no problems if a student or teacher wishes to give thanks before they eat their lunch, just so long as nobody is forcing anyone else to. I prayed before lunch when i was a HS student, i did it silently. I'm happily Wiccan, and no we don't worship the devil---i get that question frequently. Nor do I dance around a fire cursing people, that's a common misconception as well. I have no problems with people praying before a big test, before eating or whatever. There's good reasons for not watching television.......the reason we watch very little TV is because it rots your brain and inundates a person with ideals they may not agree with. There's better things to do than to argue about politics because arguments get nothing done and politics will be around until the end of time. Enough is enough, don't you think?

They are also individuals.  Just because an individual teacher does such an inappropriate thing doesn't mean that one teacher speaks for the county, state, or federal government.

This was the act of a few rogues, and if they weren't disiplined they should have been.  But let's not blow it up into some big conspiracy to turn President Obama into a cult of personality.

If you like that quote from Nurse Jenny  I bet you love Phantom of the Opera.

Name calling , rich and white are adjectives describing the noun men.  Do you on the right think Rich and White are bad words?  Golly they didn't teach me that in my advanced education I paid for by myself.

Czars were invented as adjuncts to the executive branch by Richard Nixon, a Republican.

As to your quote taken way way way out of context

Holdren and Paul Ehrlich put their anti-growth philosophy into a mathematical equation, I=PAT, where a negative environmental impact was linked to any combination of population growth, increasing affluence, and improving technology. This “gloomy prognosis” required, according to the three:

“organized evasive action: population control, limitation of material consumption, redistribution of wealth, transitions to technologies that are environmentally and socially less disruptive than today’s, and movement toward some kind of world government” (1977: p. 5).

Here is the link to fact checker who rated these attacks on Holder as Pants on Fire level of fallacy brought to you by Glenn Beck et al.  Just think how Mr Beck delivered these outrageous statements in that slightly whiny scary condenscending tone he has.  ( Yes, that was a snarky comment)

http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2009/jul/29/glen...

And oh by the way when we run out of clean water which is quite possible---

(  referencehttp://www.cnn.com/2008/TECH/science/09/17/water.crisis/

any government who isn't limiting population, limits on consumption etc will not be helping their people.

In a section on "Involuntary Fertility Control," Holdren and the other authors discuss various "coercive" means of population control — including putting sterilants in the drinking water. But they stop well short of advocating such measures.

Here's a few excerpts:

"The third approach to population limitation is that of involuntary fertility control. Several coercive proposals deserve discussion, mainly because some countries may ultimately have to resort to them unless current trends in birth rates are rapidly reversed by other means. ...

"Adding a sterilant to drinking water or staple foods is a suggestion that seems to horrify people more than most proposals for involuntary fertility control. Indeed, this would pose some very difficult political, legal, and social questions, to say nothing of the technical problems. No such sterilant exists today, nor does one appear to be under development. To be acceptable, such a substance would have to meet some rather stiff requirements: it must be uniformly effective, despite widely varying doses received by individuals, and despite varying degrees of fertility and sensitivity among individuals; it must be free of dangerous or unpleasant side effects; and it must have no effect on members of the opposite sex, children, old people, pets, or livestock. ...

"Again, there is no sign of such an agent on the horizon. And the risk of serious, unforeseen side effects would, in our opinion, militate against the use of any such agent, even though this plan has the advantage of avoiding the need for socioeconomic pressures that might tend to discriminate against particular groups or penalize children."

Later, the authors conclude, "Most of the population control measures beyond family planning discussed above have never been tried. Some are as yet technically impossible and others are and probably will remain unacceptable to most societies (although, of course, the potential effectiveness of those least acceptable measures may be great).

"Compulsory control of family size is an unpalatable idea, but the alternatives may be much more horrifying. As those alternatives become clearer to an increasing number of people in the 1980s, they may begin demanding such control. A far better choice, in our view, is to expand the use of milder methods of influencing family size preferences, while redoubling efforts to ensure that the means of birth control, including abortion and sterilization, are accessible to every human being on Earth within the shortest possible time. If effective action is taken promptly against population growth, perhaps the need for the more extreme involuntary or repressive measures can be averted in most countries

Yep I read all that before I posted it is in the rebuttal calling Glenn Beck's claims lies.  Lies because they aare outlining what could be done sociologically if societies are in peril.  They do not advocate doing them.

From the article since you only took a piece

Vitter continued with his line of question, asking directly, "Do you think determining optimal population is a proper role of government?"

Said Holdren: "No, senator, I do not. ... I think the proper role of government is to develop and deploy the policies with respect to economy, environment, security, that will ensure the well-being of the citizens we have."

But with regard to Beck's claim that Holdren "has proposed forcing abortions and putting sterilants in the drinking water to control population," the text of the book clearly does not support that. We think a thorough reading shows that these were ideas presented as approaches that had been discussed. They were not posed as suggestions or proposals. In fact, the authors make clear that they did not support coercive means of population control. Certainly, nowhere in the book do the authors advocate for forced abortions.

Some have argued that Holdren's view of the imminent and grave global dangers posed by overpopulation should provide pause, given Holdren's current view that global warming now presents imminent and grave global dangers. That's a matter for reasoned debate.

But in seeking to score points for a political argument, Beck seriously mischaracterizes Holdren's positions. Holdren didn't advocate those ideas then. And, when asked at a Senate confirmation hearing, Holdren said he did not support them now. We think it's irresponsible to pluck a few lines from a 1,000-page, 30-year-old textbook, and then present them out of context to dismiss Holdren's long and distinguished career. And we rate Beck's claim Pants on Fire!

Yes, I know what she referred to -- words you post under your name are lyrics to "Music of the Night" by Andrew LLoyd Webber. From the Musical Phantom of the Opera from her post it sounded like she didn't know what they were so I referred her to the musical.  In rereading it I still don't think she is aware those are lyrics.

It's a pretty radical idea to discuss putting 'drugs' in the water supply for birth control use.  You can sugar coat it ever how you want to so that you can believe it, but I ain't buying it.

The recession did start in '08, due to fear of change but there is always a recession during a presidential election, but lets face the facts, Obama within 6 months of his presidency has made the tax rate over 137 +/- thousand/ person in six months, this is not inherited, this is part of the new admins change.

To stimulate by giving people money for school supplies and they parents were able to buy beer and cigarettes off your tax paying dollars is not stimulus.  To bail out corps and they are not pumping money back into the economy is not stimulus, to go on 35,000/wk on vacations for the presidential family, is not only NOT stimulus, but a waste of my tax dollars.

It amazes me how every party wants to blame the president prior.  It has been proven that Obama has spent more money than what was made.  He has had so much printed that we have no backing (i.e. Gold, silver) to our dollar which makes it worthless, this is why China, one of our biggest investors is having a fit, our money isn't worth anything.  I am not saying Bush was perfect by no means, but lets face reality.

None of Obama's changes are working.  Our job is to unite, save our freedom and rights and go back to state's right and have accountability.  NO body is willing to accept responsibility.  We cannot bail everyone out.  This is just pathetic.

You are incorrect that there is always a recession during a presidential election.  It is true that recessions often follow 2 term presidents:  Bush Sr had to deal with a recession after Reagan's two terms.

It is unfortunate that the state of New York made the poor choice to put stimulus money into the food stamp debit cards of recipients, and that some chose to abuse that money.  Yes, it is a waste of your tax money and mine.  But that is an aberration, not endemic to the stimus that economists agree is helping the economy.

Yes Obama is spending a lot of money.  But he was left with a deficit.  Bush inherited a surplus, then blew it when he started 2 illegal wars and did not do anything to fund them.

Yes, we are incurring a lot of debt, and countries that buy are debt are concerned.  Inflation is something to be concerned about.  But the stimulus is working:  the stock market makes that perfectly clear.  It is up, back in a bull market, and growing.  Job losses are declining, and many employers are starting to hire again.

Running scared into the hills is not the solution to our country's problems.  Obama is dealing with them head on, and his efforts are starting to show results.

To  Nursejenny1310,

Well let me explain since you dont get it.  This President is a man of stature. If you don't see the underlined racism then you too have a problem. Where were these "concerned" parents and I stretch concerned parents when President Bush was in office going to war for what, still no one knows. Where were they when they were showing soldiers getting their heads cut off on tv. Where are  these concerned parents as they show women in there underware, people having sex on tv.......where are they. You say this is not for nurselink, I do not dispute that, but the whole issue was not for nurselink, but I didn't post the question. Nor am I the first to comment. Get your head out of your butt and open your eyes!!!!!!!!! The Presidents before Obama addressed the school children, even they one that wasn't as smart as the students he was addressing. No one had an outcry, no one objected to that, so please explain to me where the problem lies when President Obama addressed these children. You "concerned parents" didn't even know what His speech was about, but you objected so profound, so harsh, and so judgemental. So explain to me why was he judged? And my support and vote is with God Almighty!!!!!!! If you read your bible you would understand, there would be no confusion. Nothing on this earth happens unless God allows it. Like I said before and will say again.......... GET ON YOUR KNEES AND PRAY!!!!!! AMERICA NEEDS IT. And in the meantime, I pray God keep all of you and open your minds to the truth. AMEN!!!!!!

WHAT???? I never said this issue did not belong being discussed on nursing link. WHAT I SAID WAS I dont think there is a problem with race here on nursing link. As other people besides myself have pointed out. And I dont know where you started reading, BUt i agreed with the fact that other presidents have done the same thing and it was not a big deal. Now if you wish to discuss the end times, there is a thread on that. This is not the one. Oh and please DO NOT tell me to "get my head out of my butt". Ever. That is rude.

The best part of Nobamas speech was the dude who stood up and callled him a liar!  Now, i bet that dude gets re-elected!   What a joke.   He seemed to console no-one over his health care plan.   he didnt lay out how much it actually would cost, maybe he let  slip a couple of ideas.  He probaly wont read the bill like the majority in legislation.

AMEN!!!!!

On the anniversary of 9/11, can you please quit acting like the wars we are fighting are useless. Out of respect for the close to 3000 people who perished 8 years ago, please quit acting as if fighting for freedom is some useless cause. It is that very freedom that allows you to have the opinions you do with no consequences. Have you forgotten that day? I won't ever forget it.

As far as I'm concerned we were attacked unprovoked and had the right to go to war with any threat posed to our security. Saddam was playing poker with us on sanctions, and made a bluff he paid for with his life. Kinda stupid to paly games after we had been attacked for no reason.

Oh, and the Dems did make a stink about Bush. It's just the liberal media chose not to focus on it. Keep drinking the kool-aid. Swallow it down..like a jagged little pill.
