Poll: White House Bars Illegal Aliens From Health Insurance Exchange
Poll: Does this change in policy make you feel differently about the health care reform debate?

Posted over 3 years ago There has been much concern about illegal aliens receiving public funded health care should the public option portion of health care reform become law. In a statement, referred to as a "conceit", the White House on Saturday, September 12, released the following information: The White House has declared the following: • "Undocumented immigrants would not be able to buy private insurance on the exchange. Those who are lawfully present in this country would be able to participate. • "Undocumented immigrants would be able to buy insurance in the non-exchange private market, just as they do today. That market will shrink as the exchange takes hold, but it will still exist and will be subject to reforms such as the bans on pre-existing conditions and caps. • "Verification will be required when purchasing health insurance on the exchange. One option is the SAVE program (Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements) which states currently use to make sure that undocumented immigrants don’t participate in safety-net programs for which they are ineligible. • "There would be no change in the law that requires emergency rooms to treat people who need emergency care, including undocumented immigrants. There is already a federal grant program that compensates states for emergency room costs associated with treatment of undocumented immigrants, a provision sponsored by a Republican lawmaker."
There is what many of us knew had to happen, including verification. |

| Posted over 3 years ago Takes a while for folks to see a new topic. But this seems to be a huge hang up with most on this site that have been protesting health care reform. It will be interesting to see how many still post negative with no or new objections. |

| Posted over 3 years ago There was once a formal program called the Bracero Program. It was a formal agreement between Mexico and the US. It allowed a certain number of workers, registered with both governments, to come to the US to do specific jobs for a certain length of time. Some of the money they earned was paid directly to the worker and a portion was paid to the government of Mexico for "safekeeping" for the worker to be paid at a later date. In principle it was supposed to be a guarantee that the worker had enough money back home so that when the agreement time ran out and the worker returned home he/she would not have spent it all up here. It doesn't take a psychic to figure out what I am going to say about what happened in actuality. It began in 1942 to address a shortage of farm workers. This was a result of WW II and men going into the armed forces. It formally ended in its initial form in 1947 (it was originally a 5 year deal). But with farmers and the food industry now hooked on cheap labor it was extended in agriculture using a series of laws and agreements until it was formally ended in 1964. 22 years of monies being paid to the government of Mexico for "safekeeping" to be paid at a later date. Never happened. Never will, in toto. Later generations became more educated and began asking what happened to that money. They wanted it paid to aging parents who had earned it. Parents who needed housing and medical care and simple monthly expenses. Gosh, what DID we do with that money was the Mexican government's initial response. Quien sabe? Once the deal was exposed to the world the Mexican government coughed up something like $100,000 (some astute reader may post the latest actual figures) but then it was stated that it was never really clear where the original money had gone to. So no more payments were forthcoming for years. $100,000 of millions that you can be sure was earning interest in the bank accounts of the 7 Families. Formal agreement between Mexico and the US involving their people working here? The Mexican people will never trust their government again. Neither should we in such a deal. Lately it is estimated by the CBO that there are already millions of illegal aliens paying for their health insurance the same ways we do. |

| Posted over 3 years ago wow millions of illegal aliens paying for insurance wow how did i ever miss all those insured illegal aliens ??? where on earth did the CBO go to get that millions number i bet if yu call los angeles county hospital right now they might have an interesting number to give you that does not reflect that info from the CBO! and why wouldn't the mexican people trust us? seems like we are a hell lot more trustworthy than the magical 7 !!! we should come up with our own plan then and keep the mexican gov out of it! bunch of cheaters!thieves hoodlums ....ok now i feel better. |

| Posted over 3 years ago You think you're surprised? Remember I'm the guy from El Paso. I have been searching everything, including Forbes, to try to confirm anything close to that. My guess is it's from illegals using phony ID to work a wage job and getting insurance. One of the ways they use to get ID is to go to a cemetery and find the grave of an infant with approximately the same birthdate as theirs. They then go to Vital Statistics at County Clerks' offices and request certified copies the birth and death certificates of their "loved one". Then they simply apply for a SS# using the birth certificate. I can promise you they are not just paying out of pocket. This is a group who has many scofflaws at required auto liability! |

| Posted over 3 years ago Sorry "give em an inch and they take a mile". Im refering to the politicians. Do they think these consessions will shut up the public? The politicians unfortunately believe that Americans are idiots and they are above their own laws. There is no way they will take the effort to police this "illegal alien" issue and we'll still be paying out our taxes for these people. The illegals are not the big issue. The big issue is that I do NOT want the government taking over health care. I dont trust the politicians to bother reading the final bill before they vote. They can try to put all the crap they want to on the news, and the net.............and look like they will research this bill. Mr Brown I know you put alot of thought into this post and I thank you for the info. I am still amazed at the hostility of the liberal media over the tea baggers. Keep it up................ the more insults they scream at the people who exercise their rights to protest, more Americans will come out to protest and bring friends. Im sure alot of people besides me notice that these protesters appear to be middle class, taxpayers and just want to be heard.............and hopefully their congressmen and senators will understand that they will be watched by the people who voted them into office. I dont know about yall but i call my congressmans office at least twice weekly.

Fine don't believe our governent, I just wish you all hadn't believed the last 8 years of GWB we'd be so much better off . Call whoever you all want we call too and that's democracy, just remember right now the lobbyist have the biggest voice especially in healthcare and you better be watchful of that. Teabaggers= These people are dangerous to the fabric of our society and should be marginalized by every thinking American. I agree don't give them press coverage. RNprogressive |

| Posted over 3 years ago People who attend the tea parties are dangerous and should be marginalized? I guess you may not be old enough, but I imagine in the 1960's you would have said those who protested the war, or discrimination, or sexism, or whatever, were "Dangerous to the fabric of society." Oh, right, sorry, that only applies to people who don't agree with you! In the 60's I was quite conservative, and disagreed with most of the protests, but I never thought the protesters were "dangerous to the fabric of society" and I always felt they had a right to express their opinion. But that is the difference between an American who supports everyone's right to protest and express their opinions, and someone who can only see their own side of an issue and would rather "marginalize" (stifle) oposition rather than engage in honest, open discussion. Sounds more like what the Nazis did - suppress opposition, because, after all, they are RIGHT! And call it Progessivism, so it sounds so positive. Fascism is what it is. Middle school mentality? I have a BA in Political Science, a Masters in Public Administration and a Doctorate in Law. Did I like George Bush??? NO! Do i like Barack Obama? NO. Here's middle school mentality for you: If someone attends a "Tea party" (named for the brave people protesting against British oppression), then call them a name which is a sexual reference - teabaggers. Hey! Sexually related name-calling! Wow, I thought you were older that 14! Do you think you're superior to everryone here? Your opinion is no better than anyone else's. Grow up and learn to debate like a reasonably intelligent person, instead of insulting everyone here who happens to disagree with you. People on both the left and right who refuse to respect others' opinions, and want to suppress them, are no better than the brainwashed Nazis who led to the destruction of Germany. What our country needs is people on both left and right who can discuss things reasonably without name calling and "marginalizing" opposing opinions. |

I am apologizing now for the words I am about to say...... WHAT AN ASSHOLE COMMENT!........ According to my yearly income I am considered middle class. And I am pretty sure I am educated beyond middle school. Or am I too dumb to know what that is?! And what do you have to say about the lower class citizens? What about them?

| Posted over 3 years ago tea baggers doing what they do is from the fabic that made this country great. voicing our opinions is what makes the country different than all the rest. try saying somethin nasty about kim jongill see where that gets you......JAIL! get real missy we can all be losers if we stop saying how we feel about this or that. i know we will be forced to continue to pay for healthcare for illegal aliens like we do now they can say whatever they think we want to hear but the reality is this...we pay now and we will pay in the future. there will never be any ICE guys in the ER and i don't want them there either . if the President is serious about his claim i wonder how he is going to achieve it. seems to me that it will be impossible to prevent. as discussed previously a verification system is not acccurate since it is not mandatory. there have been some pretty pissed off latinos in my town over this whole thing add that to the angry liberals and angry teabaggers and you have just a bunch of yelling. SOMEONE needs to listen and come up with a plan! |

By the way the people who threw the tea into Boston Harbor were domestic Terrorists by the definition of the government of the day. FOXNews said that protestors were going to tea bag the White House. John Stewart replied that he didn't think even the Jolly Green Giant could tea bag the White House. Tea bagging as a verb and noun caught on for the movement. If the Right had any street smarts they would have changed the name immediately because most pop culture savvy people know teabagging refers to a sexual act. Congrats on your education but you can be highly degreed and still react like a middle schooler with name calling and scary hyperbole unrelated to the facts. There are a lot of just plain mean kids in middle school and a lot of bully's who use their fists just as the adults at the political rallies used guns to intimidate. I didn't want to suppress your opinions or ideas just keep it in proper perspective== you do not represent the majority of Americans. You do not represent the majority of Americans. Most in the movement do not even know the definition of Socialism or Fascism. You do and that is good you can correct their signs when they wave them at rallies. Of course a poll came out today that says 30% or more of Republicans in NJ believe Obama is the anti-Christ. Yes indeed, now we are talking the end times because a president wants to insure healthcare availability for all Americans. That is exactly what the devil would want too. Really? I claim no superiority just more compassion and more reason. I want the best for America and I want a 180 degree change from Bush. A law degree doesn't make you right or wrong it just gives you the capacity to argue a point whether you believe it or not. You learn how to defend someone or a principle you don't believe in so you can uphold the law in its' pure form. Great, we need lawyers I hope you use your education for good and not for ill. | Posted over 3 years ago Once again the taxes that would be raised are on those making over 250000 a year. Many making much much more than that. It is to roll back the Bush tax increases, they were anti-middle class to begin with I would think this would be a positive in your eyes. If you make more than 250000 a year then you will have to pay some more. So you would need to define for us which taxpayers you are concerned about? The majority of folks or the top 1%. The tax increase that is on the middle class was just put out by the gang of six , b- partisan Senators who are in the pocket of the Pharma industry. They suck that teat so hard that they have crafted a bill that would raise taxes on the middle class to pay for it and give concessions to Big Pharma. Please call and rwrite them and tell them of your displeasure. RNprogressive |

| Posted over 3 years ago 1. If someone took a poll that states 30% of NJ Republicans think Obama is the Anti-christ, I want some of what they're smoking! 2. I'm not a Republican. Ick. Some of my opinions in certain areas would shock my conservative friends! 3. My law career was protecting the elderly, prosecuting those who abuse and neglect them. Not much money, but I can look back and know that I helped a lot of people. My job as a JAG Officer is assisting troops and families with their legal affairs as they prepare for deployment. 4. I didn't imply I was superior - just that everyone who disagrees with you does not have a "middle school mentality." The name calling, sarcasm, and putting down people who disagree with me was never my style - I was dishing out a little of what we see you do every discussion. i just wish everyone would discuss things civilly here. Guess the irony was lost.... sorry.

| Posted over 3 years ago well guess this is off topic: cap and trade. Guess what...................Ive heard conflicting figures saying that this will tax MIDDLE class amerians AND other class of americans by $1700 and then another journalist <ptooey> said over 3000....................I guess Obama didnt work on the math when he said he wouldnt tax anybody at a higher rate who made $250k. Is that another lie by the precious one? Ok, he sucks. I voted for him in the primaries, much to my shame. I was cought up with all that change thingie he was speeking on . Voted for McCain for the national election, I should have saved on the money I used to put gas in my car to get to the polls. I hope somebody calls him a liar in public again. i certainly am glad Pres Obama took on a lot of naysayers in his last speech. however i am still not convinced that the plan will work. just excluding the illegals from the plan does not seem like a prudent or even a fair thing to do. these people need some form of insurance if they are here working for peanuts these employers need to be called on the carpet and spanked for exploiting the system. we are still going to have to keep paying for their trips to the ER and why not try to capture these costs a little better than by just using words to exclude them from the plan which we all already know cannot be realistically done!! they need to be insured either by their own country or ours or hey how about a combination of both!! anything would be better than what we are currently doing! what do yu think?
