So there are a lot of opinions posted about how universal healthcare is seen by nurses.  What about commenting on how you, and you, and you, and you, and you see Universal Healthcare changing the way nursing is shelled out.  About your taxes, your wages, your scope of practice, your patient loads, and any other tid bits you may bring from you wells, however deep they may be?  Let us now put this on the fry pan ladies, gentlemen, and all those otherwise.

1. National licensure instead of piecemeal state by state individual laws and rules and requirements.  A+

2.  Electronic medical records one system across the US so sharing info between providers and pharmacies and PT and rehab and long term care is seamless.  A+

3.  Universal Standards of Excellence, Evidence Based practice one standard across US so instead of someone getting the top notch hip replacement at Mayo and someone getting substandards hip replacement in Georgia all top quality best practice.  A+

4.  Uniform Nursing education, testing, and evaluations.  A+

5.  More preventative care to catch illness early so there are less hospitalizations, less hospital days equals less patient load equals better pt/nurse ratio equals quality care and job satisfaction.  A+

6.  More in taxes so no private insurance less or none paid to your insurer as you do now.  No change.

7.  Portability for you health insurance when you have to move with your spouse for career etc no loss of insurance.  No discrimination for pre-existing condition. A+

8. Development of comprehensive life care plan, what if you could have a care plan developed for each patient for each stage of their life that goes with them and changes with their needs.  Including an end-of life plan for palliative care no matter what their age.  It could have all relatives contact info, preferences for religious comfort, food preferences, diet restrictions etce etc in a searchable database.  You could know you clients the minute they come in your clinic or hospital.  A+

Radical yes but we will be providing care based on individual DNA testing in about 15 years no more hit or miss or waiting for diseases to manifest.  Way more preventative care.  Time to start is now.  Move boldly out of the old model and into the future.

it will lower our pay and destroy the good parts of our HC system.  Doctors will be even harder to find becouse less people will become MDs.  people with good policies will be forced into the guted plan morebama pushes.  the Demonocrats will lose a lot of seats in a year and a .5.  taxes will creap up like canada and britain.  God is great- the beer is good- people are crazy.

It will lower the pay of CRNA's..... anesthesiologists will work for less money and that ill drive our pay down. Our speciality is unique in that we are not physician extenders, as are NP's.. but physician replacements..

Its 1/6 of the U.S. Economy.  The government can't afford to pay period.  There is already talk of doing away with part of medicare for those making BELOW  20G a year.  China will own all of us, and our children and grandchildren.

I don't know about less pay in canada we start at minimum pay of at least 42 an hr after experience plus shift diff . I can usually get around 50plus an hour for night shift critical  and full benefits and disability on top of it....that's with 10+ years experience. I made 24 and hr as a homecare rn with no experience plus travel costs etc..with full benefits...It is all relative as to what you want...
