5)  You can please some of the patients all of the time, and all of the patients some of the time, but you just can't please the family. Because they went to nursing school too, idiots...

4)  The lift always breaks down when the 400 pound patient needs to be transferred from one bed to another.

3)  As soon as you finish a thirty minute dressing the doctor will come in, and take a look at the wound.

2)  The more confused and impulsive a patient is, the less chance there is for a family member or friend to sit with the patient.

And the number one worst law is.....

Ten seconds after you have finished giving a 400 pound patient a complete bed bath and clean sheets, the patient has a giant code brown that floods the bed.

For all us nurses that know what a bad day really is....

I'm a lucky R.N. as other than the dressing change issues our STNA's take care of it all and I'm hats off to them as I know they work very hard, and many will make excellent nurses for those that work their ways in that direction.  The lift stays busy in one of the two places I work, but the STNA's are the ones that work it.  I've never touched it and I'm glad because I've seen the >400 lbs. issues in action.  God bless all of your who deal with this stuff daily, really.  I stay busy with the treatments, Med passes, paperwork, and Assessments.  I could never come close if it were not for the STNA's.

Cheers - Tim, R.N.

The best is when all 5 of your pt's are calling for pain meds all at hte same time. I had that happen yesterday. The charge nurse told one of my pts what was going on, his reply was"Well, I called first!". Which wasn't true, but try telling him that.
