I worked ER for 2 years and Burns & Trauma for 7 years, but due to old neck and back fractures I can no longer work in the nursing field. The lifting and pulling was killing me and my pain doctor told me the new damage I was causing to my back was out weighing the benefits of working. Basicly she said I was putting myself into an early grave. I haven't worked in 1 year and 8 months now. I miss it in a way, but some things I don't miss. Where Can I go from here? Any advice would be appreciated. I have a BSN, but can't do any lifting or pulling.

How about a triage nurse-you just sit with a phone all day. Or quality review nurse in a hospital reviewing medical records. Or working for Ask a Nurse over the phone. Or for insurance company doing referrals ? There are lots of jobs out there that do not require lifting and pulling. A MD office_I work in a gastro office in recovery area-taking vs and monitoring patients' mental status. There are many opportunites for someone like you-you just have to look and keep an open mind. Good Luck!

nikki55: I am an RN and I do Pediatric Case Management. It is easy and you are traveling to homes or sitting in homes talking to parents about their issues with their children. No lifting/pushing/pulling involved.
