One more time Registered Nurses who have a Diploma in Nursing are slammed. I signed into the website and a drop down box asked me to categorize myself. There is LPN, RN with ADN, RN with BSN and for those of us who attended hospital based nursing programs  "Diploma Nurse". Firstly, I am an RN, I took the same state board exam as all the other types of RN's and I expect to, and have a right to be addressed as such.  I began my career in 1981 and have practiced in veried disciplines and levels of nursing. I have worked side by side with all of the categories of nurses you identify and have provided as competent, compassionate care as all the rest. I and others like myself, deserve the respect I demand.

I respectfully ask that you delete "Diploma Nurse" as a category and replace it with "RN with Diploma in Nursing".

Thank you,

Randy Spurlock RN

WOW , a bit thin skinned aren't we?

They have MSN NP and not NP....sooo im lumped into a generic category while the NPs have a specific choice....And CRNA is a bit more exculsive than NP... by a factor of about... ten.

They do not have CRNA as a choice.. but you don't hear me complaining.

Heck, my wife is a Diploma Nurse and a Diploma CRNA.... as long as they sign the paycheck.. what does it matter?

Randy, I've been a RN as long as you. And man, I never heard of it stated any other way. I work with a lady who described herslef as "a diploma nurse" from a local hospital (which, by the way, is the last diploma program in the state of Texas to my knowledge).

I'm not saying you can't be miffed. I just never heard it stated any other way except "I graduated from a diploma program" while still describing themselves as "diploma nurses".

I am very proud to be an RN who has a diploma in nursing. My point is I am an RN and have the right to be addressed as such in the category list just as much as an RN with either an ADN or BSN. Thin skinned? You're damned right when I feel that something I earned is somehow shrugged off under another category. I do not introduce myself to anyone as a diploma nurse I introduce myself as an RN since that is what I have a legal right to do.

And I can asure you I am pretty proud of being a CRNA... but I don't care what some internet forum  lists me as.

What you are content with in terms of your title is fine by me, I respect that, I just ask that I be afforded the same.

Now I understand. I did not comprehend the first post though it was clearly stated. That's what 15 hours on the dialysis floor will do to one. I agree.

Other than here, I never heard the term "diploma nurse," but have heard the term "diploma school." I chose a "Diploma school" because I already had several degrees, and all my friends in the nursing field told me that the diploma schools had the best clinical training. They were correct.

After graduation, working on the hospital floor the new BSN nurses seemed "lost." They complained they had not had enough exposure to actual nursing tasks.

The only downside is that some positions require a BSN.
