I have always dreamed of becoming a nurse.Right now I am a CNA. I have
been doing this for 8yrs. I do love taking care of people, but I want to be able to do more. Because of finances I have not been able to go to school.
I have also been through a few set backs due to some things that have happened in my life. I really, really want to do this, but I don't even know how to get started.

Why don't you start by finding out what kind of liberal arts credits you would need, such as English, Math, Psychology. If you can't afford the time or money, just take one course a semester. Alot of tech and 4-year schools have online courses for these. Does your employer have tuition reimbursement? I say take the liberal arts first because most schools only give credit for the sciences if they have been taken within 5 years of starting the nursing program.
