Trauma Nurse?

Posted about 1 month ago I am currently a CNA, and I am wanting to advance my career. I would love to get my RN degree, but I would like to do something like a Trauma room nurse. I have to have a fast paced job and something that is never a dull moment. I'm not the type of person to sit still. On the other hand, I was also considering to be a Medical Laboratory Technician. Chemistry is always something that interested me. Doing the tests and figuring out the results is something that I would also love to do. I am also Nationally certified in EKG and Phlebotomy. So I guess I'm a little torn. My husband is currently in the military and we are always on the move. We are currently in Colorado Springs, CO but we have to go to Texas in January. So if i start school, I want to make sure it's something that I want to do. I will have to transfer my credits and what not. So I was wondering if anyone could give me advice or little stories about your job to help me decide. Or do you think they would let me go spend a couple hours with someone at work just to get the feel for it. Thank you so much

Posted 26 days ago I'm a lot like you, I love to be active while working. I don't have technical advice but I wanted to say that I really hope you pursue your degree! I'm in my first semester of RN school and loving every minute despite that I'm a single mother of one young son (2yrs) and working 30 hrs a week in an office. Online classes are great and will help you work around moving so much, an ADN RN program would probably be easier for that fact too since 4 yrs in the same place isn't likely. If you are as excited as you sound, pursue it and MAKE a way! A counselor from a school you are interested in can talk about your credits if you have your transcript in front of you when you call. You're a great canidate having already had experience. If you really love it, you'll be just fine..best of luck!

Posted 25 days ago I would suggest shadowing nurses in different areas. You may discover that nursing isn't for you at all or it may reinforce that it's what you want. Either way, check it out. Trauma is my only area, so I'm kinda partial. I wouldn't decide on an area untl you've been around a bit.

Posted 24 days ago Agree with RNdude. And if you like to be on the move it would seem lab is may be a questionable choice.
