There are a lot of people on here who are tired of Obama as president and think he is doing a bad job.  I was wondering who you think the Republicans should nominate in 2012 and why they would be good.

Really? It's a little too early for this. I'm more exhausted by the rhetoric from people not doing a damn thing to make this country a better place than I am by policies I disagree with. It hasn't even been a year yet, and if I have to sit through three more years of these sorts of threads, I don't know if I can hang out here any more.

Second that, captnpatchemup. And if the Republicans would pull their heads out and actually offer workable legislation or work with Democrats I would have at least a little respect for what's left of the GOP which ain't much. But they are acting like little spoiled kids. Just grown rich spoiled kids.

Sarah Palin? Puhleeeeze.

i think an excellent candidate would be someone who is not a career politician.  someone who actually works for a living not some community organizer or son of someone famous but a real human being who works and pays taxes like the rest of us regular middle class people. i would prefer some military experience .  i am thoroughly done with the Obama experiment and he will rank as one of the worst Presidents in history for failing to control his own carbon footprint and the skyrocketing budget! His cabinet is full of lobbyists and i do not see any difference between his current policies and those of the previous administration. if this is change than i guess he uses the term loosly because what i have seen so far is NOT change for the better. paying more taxes is a given since he has absoulutely no idea how to run the war  and does not listen to even his own appointed general !  i see some pretty horrid days ahead for us in afghan and iraq . i don' t mind the taxes but the altruistic hypocrisy of this admin would be more comical if it was not so sad.

Someone who is not a career politician... Hmmmm, isn't that what the founders of our nation had in mind? And the Greeks, in the early democracy?

People from real life, drafted to serve the nation in public office, using their skills and expertise, then going back to farming / trades / law / whatever?

NOT people like the Kennedys, the Bushes, and many. MANY others, selling their souls to the party that arranged their election? Vote-mongering constantly, attending fundraisers and golf outings rather than serving the people, to better serve their masters? Introducing legislation and voting on it with the interests of the PARTY in mind, rather than the people?

Yes, I worked in politics for decades, and my career was political - so I KNOW that the system needs overhauling.

So stop whining about the individuals your party tells you to hate. The WHOLE SYSTEM needs changing!

Very spot on, Cap'n. Here is a dirty phrase (to politicians) to consider and demand - term limits. We have such for our Prsident. Why not for our Congress?

Hi to you very smart medical professionals! I am new to the forums. This topic caught my eye because there is so much talk in the media about the nurses and doctors that back the healthcare plans that are coming out of the Obama administration. I have not found that many nurses that agree with a socialized or national healthcare. That is what will happen if we allow the proposed changes to be made. I know there is a RN in congress from California. Where is the shortage? Have you heard all the hype about floods of money going to nurses for education? They are few and far between from what I have found. Anyone worried about their job? Anyway, I think the RNC better come up with better than they have. Also we all best be looking at the independents, no matter which “side of the isle” we are used to. Thanks for letting me ramble here.

well my problem with becoming an independant is that i think i lose the right to vote for whomever i want in the primary .  so i def don't want to do that but i do think that the 2 party system has gone to the dogs!! i want to vote every chance i get and i do so losing out on the stupid primary really chaps me!! not that voting even matters since we have crooked organizations registering dead people  and illegals etc etc but i will not give up on democracy and the Republic .......EVER !! TERM LIMITS FOR EVERYONE!!!!!!!!

I used to feel the same way - don't throw my vote away on a third party - but after decades of being a political operative, owing my career to the Party, I finally realized that it does not MATTER who wins the NJ Governorship - nothing will change! Corruption and high taxes will stay the same.

I have worked for politicians who were very decent people, wanting to do their best for the citizens - but unless the MAJORITY of State legislators is like that, we remain screwed.

While working on the inside, I have asked my office-holding friends - "So why did you vote against that bill - it sounded like it's a great idea?" The answer? "Yes, it is! But then the (name a population segment - Black, women, young, elderly, Hispanic) would be ticked off and vote against us in the next election."

They live to get REELECTED, all of them!

So, Mr. Brown is correct - term limits would be a great start - say one six year term, then can NEVER hold public office again. At least they may begin to vote in the interests of the People, not the Party which they need to get re-elected.

Right SGT? (or whatever!)

Rich spoiled kids?  Puleeeeze, as in your words.   Get Obama OUT of the white house along with all his cheating buds: Id vote for Palin myself, she isnt corrupted like many politicians............well at least from what I know myself.   Nancy Pelosi, Barney Frank and that jerk in Florida who Obama LOVES who called that lady a whore runnin along behind him.   I think my dog, Fred would be a better candidate than Obama............he only requires a rawhide bone daily, a few scratches, and fed daily plus tinkle and poopy breaks........no extra trips to Broadway for plays on datenight, Marthas Vinyards, family outings to Europe on taxpayer expenses <his family was there on taxpayer expenses, to my knowledge his wife, and younguns are not on Whitehouse payroll>.

Unless You make over 300K a year as a family....or 140K as a single person... and I ahve met VERY few CRNAs on this site.. you will be paying FEWER tax dollars . Obama is increasing the taxes on the TOP 10% of earners. I can see if you were a DINK CRNA couple..they will be KILLED with the new tax rates........ I know one of those.... But 90% will be taking more earned money home and if you own a house and have kids and are a single RN there is actually no reason you should be paying much in teh way of income tax....CERTAINLY not the 50% my wife and I pay after federal , state and city taxes are paid...... He is ending a incredibly stupid and costly war... and is trying to supply some basic health care to people who cannot afford it...I am wondering why he is so hated?

My theory is it is his middle name.

1. Administrators, Directors of Nursing, and nurse educators can gross over $140 K.... So do we lawyers, by the way. You are not the only person with an RN after his name to make decent money.

2. Some people don't like Obama's middle name, some don't like that he is "Black" (50%, anyway), but most voted against him because he is very far left.

3. Yep. stupid, costly war. What else is new??? He's ending it? When?

My point IS.. those who, on this forum, comlain the LOUDEST about the tax increases... are the ones who will actually PAY less income tax..

OK,, i see we have maybe 3 RN/JDs on this forum... And it is a rare nurse educator that makes that much...

I am talking about incomes of people who ROUTINELY make over the new tax limit....there are thousands of lawyers out there making FAR less than 6 figures.

As a nursing speciality anesthesia is far an away the top earner...and when you have a married couple with NO deductions,,, you will be paying out the nose in taxes... my POINT is..... I am HAPPY to pay more taxes if that is the result of his election,,,,.. if it means we:

1. End the idiotic and totally unjustified IRAQ war..

2. Get some sort of health care for those who cannot afford it.. like EVERY OTHER civilized country on the planet.

3.Have a president who actually can speak English.

And yes.. I have conservative bona fides...

Gun collector including NFA weapons.....check

Veteran... of two branches and now RETIRED....check

White................................................................check

The only right wing attribute i do NOT have is a belief in god...

I abandoned the party over Palin...I cannot for the life of me undertand her attratction... Uneducated, unworldly. inarticulate, not at all well read, ... what do people see in her?.. she was a mayor of a town in Alaska and did not even serve one term as governor...I am at a loss to see the attraction... other than shes kinda hot in a cougarish way.

I'm with alpha here and have said it before on other discussions. To hear a run-of-the-mill RN complain about tax increases for the wealthy is ludicrous. I'm sure their administrators appreciate their vocal and voting support against these increases though. I've pointed out the salary levels as well that will get hit with an increase and it is not a stunning increase, especially after 8 years of the Bush War party.

I don't like paying taxes anymore than anyone else. But to cut taxes while you start 2 wars is absolute financial lunacy. But nobody here complained at the time and very few do now. Before you scream about any tax increases by this Congress remember how long we have had supposed tax cuts. Oh yeah, in case you did not know or forgot, YOUR tax cut resulted in a bag of groceries a month - MAYBE!!!! MAYBE!!!!!!!

Ummmm...I'm at the same loss over Obama.  Attraction?  Does being charismatic, articulate and book smart somehow now make one qualified to serve as the President?  Wow...I know lots of people who should run then.  Now, mind you, they have no real political background, and they have some friends who may be a wee bit questionable. Oh, and they have absolutely no military experience and even less knowledge of foreign affairs, but what the hell....they look good on camera and can talk the paint off the walls!

Aisha, I agree with you 100%. I think if he did not become president, Obama would have made a good used car salesman. Or a snake oil salesman. He sure can talk the paint  off the walls. Unfortunately, he is hurting the United States. I am not sure myself who might make a good choice, but I tend to agree with Kitty with Newt, Huckabee or Steele, and I am sure in the next few years others might make it into the race.

I also saw my first Impeach Obama bumber sticker today.  That was kind of funny.
