| Posted over 3 years ago Jerk? Did I ever say I refused to help someone at work? No Mr. Brown I did NOT. I helped the nurse and I had no ill will while doing so. I'm always a team player!! You on the other hand have been consistently posting "jerk", "stupid" and other personal attacks. My only conclusion with your name calling and constant desire for a laugh, is simple.....you have low self esteem!!! And you pic suits you well!!! The personality fits!!! |

| Posted over 3 years ago LPN Holly, I'm glad that you are proud ur? arrogant to be an LPN. Proud and arrogant are two different things. Yeah I've been an RN since 82 as an ADN and have worked my way up to MSN, I would love to work with you! You had better know your pharmacology, physiology, psych , psychosocial skills and make a mean bed Holly girl or I would eat you alive. How is your time management? It is different when you are in charge and have your own patients and responsibility for the staff and patient safety and well being. Team building is part of the job-- as an RN you may need to work on your communication skills as they seem to put people off somewhat. There are courses for this. Believe me nursing is 80 % communication skills. Talking with providers, insurance company reps, staff, management, family and pharmacy etc. Being a blonde bombshell only gets you so far sweetheart even if you are surgically enhanced. Too bad I don't live in NC cause I would love to have you assigned to me as a new grad orientee. You would definitely learn something.
Best of Luck in your new role, you'll need it. RNprogressive |

| Posted over 3 years ago I come on here and vent because I cant at work!!! and what the hell is with the "surgically enhanced" comment? Cant I go to the gym, use moisturizer and exfoliating cleansers, and wear a good supporting bra without people thinking I have "help"? Its called good genes!!! We as nurses know that our bodies appearance is mostly genetic!!! I thank God for my oily skin and high metabolism everyday!!! I have two teenage daughters and they are the same way!!! I'm tired of people assuming I've has plastic surgey when its good old fashioned genetics combined with taking care of myself!!! and Mr. Brown...the price is 20 |

| Posted over 3 years ago LPN HOLLY,
I re read your post and I'm sure the DON did the right thing by asking you to set the inspiration and peep on the vent. HE/SHE has probably not been certified on every piece of equipment and did the prudent thing by asking your assistance. By the way what is their background? Are they OB/GYN, med surg, clinic by background. Every vent is different and he/she may not be familiar with that vent. I hope you ask for help when you need it. As for the Rn's who didn't seem to know the basics why don't you report the incidence to their nursing school so they can evaluate how they are teaching the curriculum Also if they are so stupid how did they pass the boards, or haven't they? Also if you want to be taken seriously as a professional maybe posting pictures in bars with drinks in your hand and dressed like a woman in her 20's at a night club maybe undermining your credibility. Also since you post under your name any future employer can search and come up with these pictures and your comments. You may not be hired due to your tone. This is the same advice I give to anyone who posts on social networking sites, you are always taking a risk. RNprogressive |

| Posted over 3 years ago Ok, Holly, I was an LPN who became an RN. It's easy to critisize when you aren't an RN yet. Believe me, I was the same way. I used to say thet if you could be an LPN, then you surely could be an RN! Easily said until I did the BSN program. Not sure where these RN's were educated, but the school I went to was tough. I studied more than I ever did as an LPN. The details in assessment, critical thinking, and pharmacology in the BSN program were astounding compared to what I had learned as an LPN. I stood corrected by the time I graduated. Another favorite saying I have is"The day you think you know everything as a nurse, is the day you become dangerous." At least this RN asked you about the vent instead of harming the pt. I would have done the same thing. I don't have expertise in vents. I work in ICU, and when I'm not sure, I ask. I don't care if anyone thinks I'm stupid. I'd rather that then to do something that would harm a pt. Asking is also how we learn. I'm sure there are some areas this RN has expertise in that you do not. Management perhaps? See MSN's are usually geared in that area. She may have been a nurse that went straight for her MSN, and didn't get alot of vent training along the way. I had an instructor who did that. Does that make her less of a nurse? No, just trained in different areas. As for the Furosemide thing, who knows? Don't know why someone would not know that. Claire Kruszka |

I looked at the name of the medication once, and knew what it was, and I am a newly licensed LVN, Oh well! I guess someone needs a pharmocology review class.

| Posted over 3 years ago ckruszka, I heard from some of my classmates, that here in California, some hospitals are requiring that all nurses, take a pop pharmocology test, without a review, they said if you score 80 percent and below, you will be canned. The employers are concerned with medication errors. I guess, I will review my pharmocology everyday lol!!!! I am a proud mother of three beautyful daughter. | Posted over 3 years ago Wow!! I come on here and more insults!! I am a team player like I said!! Honestly I am one of the few nurses at work willing to work overtime and come in on their day off to help out!! I am very well liked and respected at work. As far as my pictures on my profile? Well I guess I have to go into my life story now!! My employers and any future employers and in the past, have been made very aware of my availability NOT including weekends! Reason straight up is because on the weekends I do club and dj event promotions..and yes my weekends are usually in a club unfortunately!! Being a single parent of two teenage girls, who's father up and left when I was in nursing school after ten years of marriage left me to do whatever I can to make that supplemental income. I was left with a $1500 mortgage and other expenses as well!! Promoting pays more than working at the local Waffle House and when I go into a new job I make this other job known up front!! Actually some of my fellow employees have attended some of the events!! Know the reason for someones choice of lifestyle before you jump to judgement!! And btw...my profile is under my maiden name. my nursing lisence and name tag is under my married name...but it wouldnt matter!! I have no shame in anything. Arent we as nurses taught to be open minded, understand peoples situations, and not judge? Whats next? We see a profile of a nurse who is overweight , or know that one smokes and we think she/he cant be a good nurse because we "assume" they are unhealthy? Well some the nurses I work with are overweight and smokers!!! and they are great nurses. and great friends!!! |

| Posted over 3 years ago You know, Holly, you're probably smart as a whip and more fun than a sack of puppies. But look at the title to this topic that you started. Now, go figure why people want to kick you in the seat of your breeches. And the advice to watch what you post on any social networking site, including this one, is standard fare. Is it something you might want to come up in say, 20 years? Because once something goes online there is a good chance it will never go away. And the companies that peruse the internet to check on potential job candidates probably don't spend a lot of time scanning the whole page. Just enough to get an impression. Like "Look at the party girl, drink in hand, whooping it up". You might not ever get the chance to explain you were working. It was just a suggestion by somebody else. |

Look, dont feel bad, and Im sorry for my smartass remark. Ive said on NL many times that Ive had my bacon saved by a great LPN. Once again last week for a lab draw with a dehidrated kid, and he has crappy veins when he's not dehydrated, Stephanie is our resident vampire and worth her weight in Gold. I bet there is an RN from your past who was grateful for your expertise. Please change the attitude and get use to being a team player. Also, offer to help the new RN's who could be a sponge if you taught them a thing or 2. Think of it as a compliment. I remember being a new RN and I remember being terrified when I searched the hall for a friendly face who felt they wouldnt spit on me if I asked them advice. We only have one heart, take care of it! | Posted over 3 years ago Heck I learned what Bell's Palsy was by repeating the symptoms a woman was reporting on her 16 year old son when a ward clerk said what it was. And she was reading a Good Housekeeping magazine, drinking coffee! The woman brought the kid in, a doctor examined him, called in the local neurologist and after a few hours of hoopla the neuro told the woman "I'm quite sure he has Bell's Palsy". I was a brand spanking new RN, charge nurse on a surgical floor and covered the ER too when they fired the ER nurse and house supervisor when a regular supervisor was not on duty! Now THAT is scary. The ward clerks best friend was a LPN who pulled my fat out of the fire more than once and we both knew it I went and asked the ward clerk how she knew that from what little I had repeated and she said "He's 16, took a nap, woke up with half his face paralyzed - that's Bell's Palsy nearly every time". I do not "diss" my techs, aids, unit clerks (or whatever name they go by each year), LPNs, scrub techs (good God they helped me a million times as a circulator) or even housekeeping and maintenance. I've gotten laundry when a commercial laundry went on strike and our ICU was on SHORT supply! I was mocked by the RN staff for buddying up with the laundry guys until that day. But if I meet a dumb LPN I do not pronounce LPNs as a whole "stupid" or "ignorant". I thought they teach you as a little kid to not generalize? |

| Posted over 3 years ago There are two kinds of LPN's. One that will help an RN, and not hold stuff over her head, and one that will teach her what she doesn't know, and work as part of the team. The first LPN, will teach her something, gloat, run around telling everyone what a moron the RN is. The second will share her knowledge and learn from the RN. |

| Posted over 3 years ago RN or LPN, we were all once new and unexperienced. I learned to be a good nurse by soaking up anything anyone with more experience regardless of their title , was willing to share with me. There were great LPN's , RN's, and CNA's who taught me alot over the years. Guess what? I'm still learning all the time. I had a nurse in ICU explain to me what the signifigance of an art line was just a few months ago. She was younger than me and I'm sure had less years of nursing, but she knew more about art lines than I did. I so appreciated that she was more than happy to explain it to another co-worker and I when we asked. She could have been condescending, but she was helpful, and more than willing to explain. As nurses we should be willing to nurture each other. We take care of pts, but can't seem to take care of each other. Why is that? Why do we feel the need to "outdo" each other and compete for who is the smartest? I never got that. Holly, good luck with your future. Just don't neg out too much. You'll only cheat yourself if you do that.Be a mentor, and don't put down or begrudge anyone regardless of whatever title they may hold. Claire Kruszka |

| Posted over 3 years ago Holly, I was not an LPN before I became an RN but one thing I have noticed it that for nurses who start as LPN's the LPN's they used to work with can become catty towards them. (If you stay at the same hospital of course) People don't like being told what to do by people they used to be equal to. I think that about a year after becoming an RN (after they've charge trained you and you've had to be in charge of a bunch of nurses with less expirience than you ) You will realize it's not the difference in the activity of the job but the difference in the responsibility of the job that can be overwhelming and difficult. But your previous expirience will give you a confidence that many new RNs don't have, I know I didn't! |

| Posted over 3 years ago Holly, someone mentioned how hard it is to go from LPN to RN in the same workplace. I found that to be true. I was working as an LPN in the ER before I graduated. I figured I'd just stay there because I liked it. Problem was there were no day shifts, and I didn't want to do nights. I was offered a PACU/Pre-op position at the same hospital. Some nurses who had worked ER whan I was an LPN left ER and came there at the same time. It was horrible. They didn't want to teach me anything, and treated me like a glorified transporter. The only nurse who did teach me was in Pre-op. She had been an LPN and had gotten her RN. She told me "you're never a hero in your home town." She had left the hospital where she had been an LPN b/c of the same problems I was having.I ended up leaving and found I was way happier in a place where I was never known to be an LPN. Just a little FYI. Claire Kruszka |
