It is such folly to think that any one health care provider can "know it all." That is why health care is a 'collaboration" of team members sharing their COMBINED knowledge to get the job done! I get so tired of the holier than thou attitudes by health care workers. Like we have achieved such a level of intelligence just because we have graduated from nursing school or something. I think it contributes to and translates into poor patient care and outcomes because people are prideful and head strong. Policies are different in each facilitiy, in my experiences, it is not within my scope of practice to set PEEP on a ventilator, that is why we have RT. It may not be the same everywhere you go. Then you have hospitals floating nurses to floors and ares they are not used to working in to cover short staffing, which can be dangerous for all. It is impossible to expect any one nurse to know all areas of nursing without years of experience and even then........In my opinion there is way too much expected of any individual nurse in the "shortage" we are experienceing, stretching nurses too thin to save a buck, and the public idea that we are "gods" of some sort that never make mistakes. That is why we need to stick "together" as a profession and support one another in this struggle for the ideal! I have heard somany LPN's "BITCHING" about RN"s and how they know moreĀ  and so on and so on, well don't be angry at us because you did not continue your education. Go get your RN. This negative attitude is what makes so many nurses leave the field (sadly) and as a result the community (and patient)suffers. Although this nurse should have known what furosemide is the drugs change so rapidly and the names are so much the same its no wonder we get boggled by it all! So nex time you have a struggling nurse come to you, willingly share your knowledge, as i am sure you wold want someone to do with you, and next go and get your RN!
