Posted over 3 years ago Before I am attacked for the use of the above word read the thought for the day. It is from a Special Olympics contributor and if you get the meaning of the thought you will forgive the wording.. I hope to live my life in this manner, can you get your humanity back and do likewise? Some people understand life better, and they call some of these people
Time to change the course all of you party of NO (R) types. Please find your humanity. I couldn't stand to read the spew that is on this site of people misled by rich men in the media who want to keep you scared so you allow the insurance companies to kill you and your loved ones by denying care, by limiting care, by constantly changing the rules. Time to change the course medicare will not be gutted, they are not going to kill old people and lastly THIS IS NOT ABOUT ABORTION!!! What smoke and mirrors and the chicken s**t Dems run from it. Just take all reference out of the bill make it neutral on abortion and get real health care reform done. If you care about the economy we need a public option. Insurance rates are going up next year for sure it is already planned especially if they defeat this. Mr Brown, Alphamale, Hoorah! or is it HUA? You know what I mean..
Choose to change for the better find your better angels in yourself. Heal our country. Turn off Rush and Glenn and Hannity. Hey by the way What would Jesus do?

| Posted over 3 years ago can you get your humanity back and do likewise?? good question !!!!! i suppose all the residents of hooverville were asking the same question???kinda hard to think about giving when your are working everyday of the week just to pay bills and all the giving that is getting given is being given by those who work the hardest . in my opinion the only retarded people in the world are the ones who believe we can achieve universal healthcare. |

| Posted over 3 years ago mr brown you are correct but are you aware those numbers used to be MUCH lower until pelosi submitted they be raised!!!WHY???? i'm sure you can fathom the answer!!!its preposterous this plan and there will be more taxes paid by everyone as it should be but saying giving people things for free or subsidized by the gov is just code for YOU WILL PAY FOR IT!! you meaning everyone who has a job and pays taxes. this plan will work IF everyone works and we all know that is just not true . just as it is true that some people do not take responsibility... no matter how much you encourage them to take care of their health. no preconditions to becoming insured is just great except we are the most obese nation in the world! somehow when you get things without working for them it does not make you feel any accomplishment but rather entitlement. |

| Posted over 3 years ago Kellyj,
How about once we get everyone into primary care they have diet and nutritional counseling so they are educated in how to eat. How about we teach people how to grow veg gardens, get some cheap healthy produce into inner cities and rural areas and teach people how to eat. How about we get PE back into schools as mandatory. How about we stigmatize obesity instead of glorifying it. See NYT article on Fat Diversity! Are you kidding me? www.nytimes.com/2009/11/08/health/policy/08fat.html How about we stop supersizing of food and break the corn lobby and do away with High Fructose corn syrup and tax sodas and sugary Juices to raise money for Health Care? How about we prevent the tariffs on sugar so it is cheaper than High Fructose corn syrup if we don't abolish the use of corn in that way? How about we eat less meat and more beans , tofu etc. How about the food in your Hospital cafeterias is better and more nutritious. How about the nurses don't all order out for pizza , burgers, tacos, fried chicken? I know when I travel to other countries you don't see the obesity we have here although with the infilltration of McDonalds and KFC you do see more of it in Europe and Japan. But how come Europeans can eat real butter and bread and pasta and not be obese? Portion control and exercise and discipline to not get large. So how about we, nurses, start a campaign for universal healthy eating and living. You don't want mandatory health care for all start educating and fighting for everyone to have the tools to eat right and access to healthy vegs and fruit. Campaign for sidewalks and areas for kids and grownups to exercise because really those aren't available everywhere.
By the way I'm 50 and weigh 125 lbs on a 5'5 inch frame. Work out 5 days a week. It can be done. www.nytimes.com/2009/11/08/health/policy/08fat.html RNprogressive |

| Posted over 3 years ago bravo i agree 100% and yu are right nurses really do eat pretty poorly. i know i do esp at the hosp cafe where i have 15 min to eat cuz i spent 15 min in line ordering my food! nurse managed health care centers NMHC (is a part of the 1990 page monstrosity and probably the only thing i agree with in the entire boondoggle) is what you are referring to!!! its a win win but i will wager that many rn's working for these centers will be ready to commit hari kari after a few years of beating their heads against the bricks.. people do not change for anyone not even the government and that is one thing i am fully convinced of! |

| Posted over 3 years ago i don't incur the higher costs my employer does !!i guess i'm lucky i have my health and i work very hard . i paid my own way through school and did not get any assistance that did not have to be repaid. don't know why i have the "i can do it attitude " maybe its just in the "jeans" but i will say this those who don't have it surely never will if they continue to get "stuff" "without showing any personal responsibility for it. i DO think there is a huge need for reform but it would be reform of the current business practices of the insurance companies which as you have pointed out mr brown are criminal indeed! |

| Posted over 3 years ago yes yes of course no argument there and now with the new bill measures they can tell all the high risk behaviors and in general the abusers that they can all have coverage without preconditions !! not that there will be ANY $$ to give them the care they need or the staff to give them the care they need but nonetheless they will have coverage. i fail to see the greatness of this idea but over time i'm sure i will get the opportunity to see how well it works and when i get tired of working so hard well then i guess i will retire or go on diasability and get on the plan with everybody else on the take. |

| Posted over 3 years ago well well mr brown i remember your horrible back story and thankfully i have had the good fortune to not have experienced that but how i get onto the dole will really be quite easy since i have no house don't own anything the gov can take including any savings so it should be no trouble getting on the plan and since they have added 386 milllion or billion to section 8 programs things are really looking up for those on the take. |

| Posted over 3 years ago Angie of Georgia, No people don't know they need vegies and fruit. Many children are raised nowadys not eating fruits and veggies because their parents don't want to make them eat them. This cuts across all social classes by the way. I know of upper middle class young mothers who say their kids won't eat them and neither will their husband so they don't have any. The father refuses to be an example to the kids. This is behavior that can change. Poorer people can;t afford fruits and veggies or they don't have access to them in the center of cities really. This too can change. People don't know how to prepare fruits and veggies they can be educated. Jesus worked as a carpenter and didnt ask for HANDOUTS and didnt expect the people on the mount handover cash or they will go to hell.. Jesus would say "PAY YOUR BILLS and dont expect to be taken care of". Now its bad to have no insurance but tough crap............I recent every cent going towards this piece of crap unconstitutional bill. Cheers and I bleed red like everybody here, so Im human.......my humanity is worried about my retirement, my kids, my future gandkids. Nobody is turned away from the ER.............tough crap if they dont get to choose a pcp, they are lucky they even get to be seen in the ER PERIOD. I bet Ive ruffled a bunch of feathers but I dont care. I care about paying for losers who dont have healthcare. JESUS wouldnt want anybody to feel like they were a burden........ Um Angie, Jesus took care of the lepers, the prositutes, the poor of all kinds. Fed the multitudes, cast out the moneychangers and asked us to treat others as we would want to be treated. He would totally be for universal health care and feeding the masses. These are older statistics today it is worse
And by the way the economy went south under BUSH, Obama inherited the mess yes I know he has been there 10 months it takes a while to turn the Titanic around! Bush I believe purposefully hard broke the US economy to allow his big bank buds and big business masters to gain an even stronger foothold on the US. The fact you are focused on your unborn grandchildren and not on those that are here already is very telliing about your priorities. RNprogressive |

| Posted over 3 years ago I think most of us want the poor to be taken care of - the question is how much of the responsibility should be shouldered by the federal government (i.e. Taxpayers). In other times and other societies the poor were and are taken care of by their families, churches, and charitable organizations. Limited government programs take care of those who "fall through the cracks." |

| Posted over 3 years ago im pretty sure jesus could give a ratts butt about insurance coverage but i will say that he might be pretty interested in how you spend your day off from work and what becomes important to you outside in the real world and as for society being only as good as its weakest link that may be true and we sure have a lot of "weak links" maybe we need to look into the history books and see how other "great" leaders took care of their weak links!!! hmmmm not sure you are going to like what some of them did. |

| Posted over 3 years ago Oh so it finally starts to come out that this is class warfare and bigotry because now Kellyj is talking about final solutions and genocide, "for dealing with our weakest link" Really? Why is it that you all think universal health care is impossible and can never be achieved when we are the only industrialized nation without it and the others are succeeding with it. I had a friend from Okinawa here who is Japanese and she works with Americans and cannot understand the debate about healthcare. I have friends in Okinawa who are 70-100 years old and they are vibrant active healthy elderly people, who can see a doc anytime they need to see one. I worked with Special Olympics over there and their mentally challanged are well taken care of with community centers and homes for respite care for the families all on the government. They are very involved in extended families and do take care of their own which is why there is not such a homeless problem people go home and live with their families. Why do the naysayers think America is too inept to achieve Universal Healthcare? We are too inept to conquer energy with renewable resources? Why do you in the teaparty movement think we can only go back to move forward? Why can't we innovate and accelerate in a positive forward direction, change the old paradigm and go boldly into the future. Personally I want a car like the Jetsons! RNprogressive |

| Posted over 3 years ago Valid points made by most of those posting, although I don't know how Jesus' Name got into the jumble! Socialized Medicine (AKA "Universal Healthcare") has been working around the globe for hundreds of years people! It isn't a novel idea ... except to the greedy oligarchy in America. We are a capitalist nation, and capitalism will be the FALL of this nation! As it stands, our government is an oligarchy ... run by the highest bidding corporations in America! If we took the BILLIONS of dollars wasted every year just on medications that are unnecessary, we could not only feed, clothe, and house the 13.5 million children living in the streets in this nation, we could probably begin turning the economy around. Rather than invading countries that had absolutely nothing at all to do with 9/11 (BLOOD for OIL) we could have taken the TRILLIONS of dollars wasted on the last administrations moronic endeavors and FIXED the nation's healthcare system overnight. Sick of this greedy, ignorant nation of complacent fools who can't even find time to read and research prior to spewing their BS! Happy to be involved in my nursing organization and finding my voice amongst those fools, too! Peace all ~ Reiki Lady |

| Posted over 3 years ago If we took the BILLIONS of dollars wasted every year just on medications that are unnecessary, I'm giving you a mental standing ovation. My father is 93 and mother is 84. I can't count how many Rx's over the years, I have thrown out. My parents have NO pension, only SSI. I have their Rx's pared down to the bare minimum. At one point, a dr wanted my mother to take about 10 RX's a day. She suffered from unexplainable nausea and vomiting for over ten years. She had every diagnostic test known to mandkind. Finally, her last doctor placed her on insulin for her diabetes (out went the glucophage, actos, and diabeta) and she hasn't vomited in 8 months. Now, the only pill she takes is for her cholesterol and her insulin. Dad takes 2 pills a day for his AD and dementia. I've worked in Nursing homes, where I've had to have 2 med cups just to hold the breakfast pills. It is disgusting. The med protonix is just another expensive reformulation of prevacid, or prilosec. When my dad was hospitalized this summer they gave him protonix IV at a cost of about $124 for one shot. That is insane. |

At the risk of arguing against my own position, I think a much better example is the VA health care system....THAT is GOVERNMENT SUPPLIED AND RUN health care.... what the new laws will provide will be government PAID for health care to those who cannot actually afford it.
Thank goodness I am not a VA patient. I have TriCare... government paid civilian supplied heath care....THAT is an example of what we will be getting.. Man will not be free until the last lawyer is strangled with the entrails of the last priest. With apologies to Voltaire |

| Posted over 3 years ago how can you be so sure "that Tricare is what you will be getting for gov supplied healthcare?" i'm not getting that impression from reading the legislation! i'm getting you will have to go to a nurse to get your preventative medicine and hopefully you will see one that actually went to school !!! fine for us who knowwhat the hell is going on but what about your friends or extended family ?maybe this will be good for western medicine but somehow i see a lot of pissed off baby boomers !!one lady actually said to me "i cannot believe it took me 6 hours to get out of the emergency room with my husbands appendix problem!" six hours and sched surgery ????wow yeah that's a real real shame!!EGADS ! oh well ...you never know what you have till its gone gone gone gone ....i say! |
