Posted about 1 year ago Is anyone out there a Scrooge at Christmas? My husband is. He gets so grumpy during Christmas. (or should I say grumpier?) He tries to ruin it for us every year but I refuse to let him. I just ignore him! I love Christmas! My daughter was born on Christmas day-best present I ever got! |

| Posted about 1 year ago I enjoy the holidays but I feel women tend to be more into the seaon then us guys. A lot of my guy friends hate this time. One of them doesn't like how many resources are wasted for such a day. I don't mind it so much though. I can't stand Hallmark holidays, though. |

| Posted about 1 year ago I'm a mix, I like Xmas with the family, and friends getting together and socialising... I love it when you have little kids around the tree and they get so excited - but I hate the crass commercialism, the excuse for companies to use the season for pushing sales and marketing in the most mindless inane ways. I hate the shopping, the frenzy of 'stuff' and just pressure of spending, while the simple things in life are best. Some say Xmas is about the kids and I tend to agree, I loved it when my kids were small.... and look forward to having grandkids at Xmas one day... but nowadays I'm in between and also see the pressure of the commercialism.

| Posted about 1 year ago JennaJay: I'm with you. Christmas was the best when the kids were little. Now I have grandkids and it's wonderful all over again-seeing things thru their eyes. I love Christmas. I also love shopping. I always go overboard- but hey-it's Christmas and it makes me happy. I'll search for days looking for just the right gift. I also hate the commercialism. That's not what Christmas is all about. I love going to church on christmas eve. One year I wanted us to make gifts for each other, needleless to say that didn't go over well. This year, the stores started even earlier-skipping right over Thanksgiving. Santa was at the mall before Thanksgiving!! And they started with Christmas music on the radio Thanksgiving day. Some people had christmas lights up before Thanksgiving! That's ridiculous. My daughter was born on Christmas day so she really makes a big deal out of it. I love Christmas-but, hey, at least wait until Thanksgiving is over! |

| Posted about 1 year ago I love Christmas time, the weather and lights, I agree it can get stressful, but thats when I stop and say no! this is going to be what I want it to be.....and spend a little less money, and pay a little more attention. We buy for our 3 children and 6 yr old neice and spend time talking and dining and loving everyone else! were not cheap, just dont want a holiday that wasnt even meant for gift giving to force us to go bankrupt every December! have a wonderful Christmas and happy new year everyone, and remember Jesus is the reason for the season, not the big businesses! |

| Posted about 1 year ago I feel your pain, My husband hates Christmas. Since we have had children who are small he tends to try more for their sakes, but overall I think it is because he had such horrible holidays with his extremely dysfunctional family in the past. I have found that by asking him to do only the things that are really important to me a nd compromising on the rest there is less stress and we work together. It can definately be a problem though because Christmas is my favorite holiday and I spend a lot of time making cookies for all my family and friends, decorating, and going to do xmas activities in the area. Anyway, good luck with it and try to make it fun anyway. |

| Posted about 1 year ago Bah Humbug! I don't like all the artificial cheeriness around the holidays. I don't like how focused it is on having your significant other around and all the mistletoe. |

| Posted about 1 year ago I am also of two minds about this holiday - the annual orgy of greed followed by 6 months or more of finance charges. We have a rule at our house. There has to be a VERY compelling reason to go into any kind of debt for a christmas present. This year is only the second time we have ever done it. My two remaining children moved out, we are buying one a bed (cash) and the other a dinette (maxing out the furniture store acct). And that's all they are getting (both are ok with that). I hear the guys about having to pay for it all, too... my favorite holiday is Turkey Day - family time without all the one-up-manship of the gift buying frenzy. People here in Utah have contests to outdo each other for speed and extremism in decorations as well. The radio station i had my alarm set to started playing all xmas music all the time the day after Turkey Day. Made me want to vomit. Like i need more stress at the end of a semester. I like christmas music on christmas eve, period. But, I guess we all have the power and freedom to make the season whatever we want it to be for ourselves and our families...between stimulus and response...etc. So I guess I will shut the hell up and quit complaining!!! Ha! |

| Posted about 1 year ago I wish Christmas could last more than just a day. You spend all that time (and money) preparing for it and then puff! it's gone. I wish christmas could last for 3 or 4 days-not with presents but celebrating it with family and friends. |

| Posted about 1 year ago Char... Christmas traditions in most spanish speaking countires; December 22, Christmas Lottery Winners are Announced. December 24, Christmas Eve. December 25, Christmas Day . December 28, Day of the Innocents. December 31, New Year's Eve. January 6, Three King's Day. So put on your sombrero and celibrate with us, from Dec 22 to Jan 6. |

| Posted about 1 year ago I used to really love Christmas but I lost two close family members three yrs ago and it really changed Christmas for me but this year my Mom and I are going to get in the spirit and decorate and shop until we drop. Mostly because it feels a little easier to celebrate. |

| Posted about 1 year ago whisper236: I know exactly where you're coming from. Last christmas was a fog because my mom died and I had no joy. I took a quizz online about holiday spirit and my results were that I am feeling the holiday spirit this year but not feeling all warm and fuzzy over it. That about sums it up. My mom would not want me sitting around feeling sad. Plus I have 4 grandkids-how can you be sad with grandkids around? |

| Posted about 1 year ago My family wouldn't want me feeling sad either but it can be hard and my cousin is going to be having her baby in the next two weeks so that helps to make Christmas fun. One of my close friends is also having a baby so it should be exciting this year. |

| Posted about 1 year ago I agree there is a big build up just for ONE day, and the idea of going into debt over one day out of 365 is illogical. I am all for the celebrations, but all things in moderation. To get gifts within your budget, to eat good food and share time with families.. thats all lovely.. to remember Jesus and the fact he was born to offer hope for us failing, flailing humans (despite the fact that its probably not technically his real birthday) we choose to highlight it... a day to have that special spring in our step, to watch little kids go off the charts with excitement and silly-ness... to watch Granny get a little punch drunk and talk too much... For me I just want to have some perspective.

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, martini in the other, body thoroughly used up, worn out and screaming "Woo-hoo"!!! |

| Posted about 1 year ago I don't want to be a scrooge at Christmas but things are so expensive these days that it creates havoc to the paychecks....lol....I actually love Christmas but I have created a monster. I now have 13 grandchildren and the expense is ridiculous not to mention I have 3 children and 3 husbands and wives...Who would have thought 3 children could turn into 19 and that is not the rest of my family like my mom and brothers and sister so it does turn into a nightmare. I wish I was someone who was organized and had all my xmas bought by June......lol |

| Posted about 1 year ago I am so sick of the "de-evolution of Christmas" Let's start with the name changes 1. X mas. (sounds like a hen party for all my former wives and girlfriends) Is the X supposed to take Christ out of the season or is it to stand for the cross. Sombody get me a dictionary. Now how about the next one Holiday Season's Greetings. Gimme a break what are we doing our season of giving has turned into a season of shopping, and for what. violent toys, sexy outfits, and other crap. And never mind how the commercials are using the "Ode to Joy" " Handels Mesiah" and other liturgical songs of joy to our Father. How about the kids. God love em. let's get them a video game that says destruction and death exemplifies the gift of our Lord...............................ya know what, I hate the de-evolution of the season. See ya at church on Sunday. |

| Posted about 1 year ago ljr3418: I've never seen you so angry. You are right tho. I hate christmas with an X. I think the X is suppose to be the cross but it's alittle demeaning. Yes it sounds like commercialism-I mean it's taking Christ out of Christmas. I also don't like Season's Greetings. It has become a "season of shopping" as you said-each year trying to top last year. The stores have gone crazy-putting out christmas stuff before Halloween. And the kids christmas list keep getting longer and longer. But you know what I still love Christmas. You can celebrate it any way you choose. If you don't like the songs on the radio-turn it off. If you don't want to buy alot of presents-don't. Make them or do someone a favor instead. It's all about what is in your heart. If you have Jesus in your heart-then that's your reason for celebrating. All the rest is just extra-like the stuffing with turkey. Christmas is for the kids anyway. I love seeing my grandkids eyes light up looking at christmas decorations or at Santa. I love teasing them about the elves watching. We go to church on christmas eve because that's a important part too-the most important part. As long as you know that-nothing else matters. You can celebrate it any way you want to. MERRY CHRISTMAS!!! |

| Posted about 1 year ago charlita said: Dont get me wrong Char I love Christmas with a capital Christ. yea and I like Santa too, but the commercialism and violence now getting associated with His name is what gets on my last good nerve. Imagine the Ode to Joy used to sell Fords. Or the local Taco emporium using the Virgin Mother to peddle tacos. I am thouroughly and completely disgusted with this. The hymms I love being perverted to profit those with more money than sence. The thing I am glad of is this . That those same people haven't yet figured that if we do keep Christmas in our hearts 365 days then they will have to figure on a way to extend the "Holiday Season" to July 10th. |
