i have recently left a 2 year  stint as DON  in long term care facility.


I am now haing hard time finding a staff nurse position  because of the DON postion I cant seem to get in to a staff nurse position even when i apply the day the job is posted.


has anyone out there had similar experience.


i did my job well and was successful, now i want to go back for masters degree and cant find a job.

My guess is you will not find a staff nurse job easily if at all. Most staff nurse jobs are going to experienced nurses with current patient care experience. Additionally you have been management and know all their dirty secrets so you're harder to fool or boss around. And on top of all that most management people looking for lower level jobs are considered sliding down the ladder and are expected to bolt for greener pastures as soon as the fence goes down.

OK so no dirty tricks. But, I have had management tell me when I was on a management role/side and voiced an opinion as a nurse "You are not in nursing now, you are in management". You are expected to view situations from a different angle because you are in a different position.

yes  but i havnt been out of basic patient care long enough o keep from being able to work as floor or staff nurse
