Posted over 5 years ago Okay- are the tests you are using rapid strep tests? if so then...1) no- the test can only pick up strep bacteria. The only way to tell the difference is to do a culture and actually grow out the bacteria. 2) the throat can sometimes be so inflamed that any pressure or irritation can cause bleeding. It is normal in a sense. 3) Over my years of practice I have seen many a person have no symptoms of strep, but as a last resort the doc did a rapid strep and it was positive. As for more tests depends on the provider. Hope this helps!

Posted over 5 years ago Shan, you are right...we have people who come in with other complaints, do a rapid strep, and it's positive. People can be carriers, and pass this to others. I know from my own personal experience, and without the test one may never realize it. Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, martini in the other, body thoroughly used up, worn out and screaming "Woo-hoo"!!!

Posted over 5 years ago thanks... i will let the patient know that she should go to the doctor.. what i mean by patient is that the student at the school are practice patients and when i did that test i did it 3 different times two in one day and once the next day and all came back positive in a very quick 2-3 minuts. however, the reason that i asked this was my instructor had told me that it may be an std.. unfortunately i think that she was wrong now.. and i may tell her. thanks for the information i appreciate that.
