Posted over 5 years ago I work full-time (40 hrs/wk). I am going to sign up for evening nursing prereq classes for Spring 08. From a scale of 1 to 10 - how difficult would the Nutrition and Human Development classes be if taken together? What would the work load be like, a lot of studying? I definitely would take the BIO classes ONE AT A TIME... |

Posted over 5 years ago I know it's cliche, but it really depends on your professors. I am taking Psych and Nutrition right now and it's a piece of cake. (even though finals are in 15 hours and I'm still not ready!!!) Let me add in that I am a mom of 5 young children. So you'll do fine!! Get them out of the way as quickly as possible! ;) Good luck!

Posted over 5 years ago Thanx 4 your input ladies! I will sign up for the two classes for my first semester. I am carefully managing my time as I don't want to miss out on application deadlines yet I will have to earn decent grades at the same time. I still have a long road infront of me.

Posted over 5 years ago I thought those were two of the easier classes (keep in mind, I am an oldie but a goodie.) Nutrition I remember I had a huge pile of notecards to remember all those little facts. If you don't love Bio, I think it is a great idea to take them one at a time. Ace those classes and it will pay off.

Posted over 5 years ago I think it just depends on how good you are at bio... If you love it (like me) two at a time is totally managable. If you dislike it, then spread it out. Also, I would say it depends on your learning style. Some people like to take classes at the same time to make lateral connection versus others like to take one class at a time to build on a foundation of previous knowledge.

One BIO course meets twice a week for 4 hours total (2 hrs lecture, 2 hrs lab). I know that it can be done but I don't love BIO. |

Posted over 5 years ago I took those both, along with Chemistry for the Fall semester. They are both very difficult classes IF you want to truly learn the material. If you just want to get by, they aren't that hard. It really depends on what you want to get out of the classes and, of course, your professors and the integrity of the college.

Posted over 5 years ago Oh, and BTW, if you are planning on working 40 hours, I would say "NO" to taking both next semester. If I were you, I would start off with Human Development first. If you need to brush up on your Chem and Bio, I recommend taking Chem and Bio BEFORE you take Nutrition.

Posted over 5 years ago Remember, for college level classes the rule of thumb is this: For every hour in class, plan on spending an hour out of class to study. 16 hours in class, and 16 out is 32hours, in addition to 40 hours at work.

Posted over 5 years ago You should be fine to take them together. At least try- you can always drop one before the drop deadline if you feel like it will be to much on you.

Posted over 5 years ago sinimin said: You know, it really depends. I took a hybrid in class/online Nutrition class and I got an A without having a strong Biology background. I can tell you, the students in the class that had taken Bio, A&P had an easier time with Nutrition. Luckily, because it was a hybrid, the tests were online (open book). If they had not been, I would have had much more difficulty. Nutrition is very Chemistry-based. A&P and Bio would be very helpful as well. Especially since you'll probably have to take those classes anyways.

Posted over 5 years ago You can do it. I took Nutrition in a 5 week class before, actually winter session. You can do it. Nutrition is like Biology to me. I don't remember it being Chemistry based. It was alot of memorization. I took the class right after A&P. I got a A also. Human Development is like Biology also. You will do just fine. I took Elementary Algebra and Chemistry before together. That was HELL!!!. I am a proud mother of three beautyful daughter. I currently live in Los Angeles California. I've worked as a heathecare provider for almost 10 years. I am curently in school to pursue my MSN in nursing, and wants to work as a pediactric nurse, in public health.

Posted over 5 years ago I have been out of college since 1989 so I am a returning student but really feel like I am starting over. I will be taking an Intermediate math before I can begin taking the Prerequisite courses. I also work 40 hours a week....so I am taking it very slow.....this will be second career for me since I have been on a job for 23 years
