Latina magazine reports:

"Once she reached the hospital, nurses repeatedly begged the Sheriff's staff to allow them to unchain the mother, but they refused and Chacon was forced to give birth while still shackled to the bed. At one point, the nurse asked for them to release her so that she could be escorted to the bathroom for a urinalysis, but even that request was denied. But the worst came once Chacon gave birth to her baby girl.

Still chained to the bed, Arpaio's police staff refused to allow Chacon to hold her newborn baby and then warned her that if no one came to pick up the child within 72 hours, she would be turned over into state custody."

What are your thoughts?

Utterly ridiculous. There has to be a place for sense and humanity in the law, and he crossed the line.

Well, I was a cop before a nurse, and this seems ridiculously harsh to me! I've seen many arrestees in custody who are unhandcuffed and taken to the bathroom if they need it.

Of course, I always wonder if media articles are accurate. I hope this one is not!

A search of United Press International and Associated Press sites reveals plenty on the sheriff, but nothing about this case. A Google search turns up only articles from well known liberal media like Latina magazine and Huffington Post. Each article villifies the Sheriff in an obviously biased manner.

I'm not saying the article isn't true, but I have to wonder about the facts.

MrBrown says ...

This woman would not vote Republican, Angie. She is everything you dislike. But you're a nurse. ha.

Yes this sheriff goes much too far in many more cases as well. He's effective though at keeping people from wanting to revisit his facilities. And he does it on the cheap. This is too cheap, too punitive and too far out.

Dude #1  NEVER presume to know me.  YOU know absolutely NOTHING about me.   And what woman?  You dont specify which woman.  You cant me ME because unlike YOU I dont talk to myself through posts.    The person who started this thread?  Is it Eric?   Dunno but he might get pissed if you call him a woman.

i live in Tucson Az. and believe me if this actually happened it would have made every news coverage here. It was never reported on. Although I believe some of the things Sherriff Joe is "ballsy" and probably harsh, he has lowered the number of illegals entering our state, trashing our beautiful deserts and depleting our healthcare funds.
