Hello nurses,

I have to make some serious decisions in my life.  I am a recent graduate of a practical nursing program in NY and I have recently attained my license and I am having such a hard time finding work.  I live in PA now and have since applied for licensure in PA , and it is taking a while for me to receive that license.  Nonetheless, I still keep hearing the same line from all employers...you need 1 yr exp. to get hired.  So here I sit with a nursing license in two states and no job...what is a girl to do.  I am the mother of a 4 yr old boy and I currently live with my girlfriend and her 4 yr old daughter.  That arrangement gets more and more uncomfortable everyday...don't get me wrong I love my friend and I appreciate all of her help and patience, but I have been working since I was 14 yrs old and have been pretty much independent since I was 18.  Not having a job is killing me softly, and I am slowly but surely creeping down the road of depression.  I am trying to remain hopeful that the situation will work itself out but I do not see any silver linings around any of my clouds appearing any time soon.  I want to continue my education and getting my BSN to ultimately become an NP in Forensics or Psych, but that dream is on standby until I acquire a job to pay for mew to further my education.  I am stuck and I need help so I am in desperate need of advice from you guys out there.  Thanks in advance for all the help.  And for all those in the trenches everyday who wake up with a smile and willingly keep smiling through the blood sweat and tears, I give a long distance hug and say keep up the good work .

Thankfully yours

desperately wanting to succeed

Here I am again still searching for a job opportunity.  Thanks for all the advice I have received, but I have a new question LPN to BSN, good idea or big head ache? I have been thinking about taking that next step for some time now thinking that is the next best thing. Does any one have any feedback on the idea?

Hi, Try your states Department of Mental Retardation, the group homes pre-cept new grads all the time. Or get online and search for home care agency's that hire LPN's. Good luck, you will be successful. You already did the hard part. Any experience you get will help you down the road. MJ

Here is a list:  Nursing homes

                          Senior living facilities

                          Public and Private schools

                           State and county prisons

Don't be afraid of the prisons, a guard is always with you when you are in an area with the prisoners.  I did a temp at a prison and the prisoners were polite and courteous.  I never got insulted nor hurt  I can't say that about working in the hospitals.
