| Posted over 3 years ago Stagflation is a term created in 1965 by a British politician. If one was not alive (even if we were) and does not remember, stagflation hit the US the last time under RICHARD M NIXON! It started August 15, 1971 when he imposed wage and price controls. This is what's amazing to me. Even with the internet and access to an untold amount of information which can be verified by any number of sources, cross checked for accuracy, many of you are so ramped up by a political frenzy against Obama that you blame everything on the Democrats. From the gasoline crisis in the 70's to this current economic disaster. And all were suffered under GOP presidents. Oh please bring on Sweet Sarah. The Dem's are not perfect. In fact they are far from it. But, with me not being a millionaire, in my 60+ years of life and living I have slowly turned from a dyed-in-the-wool Republican to viewing Democrats with much more favor. Virtually every action by the GOP is in favor of the rich. Every one. Trickle down economics. Tax cuts. Tax credits. Who do you think this favors? Not you. You would not be on here if you were in that position I assure you. Prove me wrong. Oh I can hear it now. "How do you know who is on here?" Life. And living. Those who are that rich ain't web surfing any nursing site. I might be wrong and I'll admit it if you can prove it. So bring it. |

| Posted over 3 years ago thank you mr brown .... i thought nixon was a good guy i don't care what they say about him and i don't see how taxing and spending is any different now than it was then..this administration wants to force ins companies to do things that none of them will do with the american dollar and that is to spend it on them...the people....the taxpayers!! its a joke to say we are going to take 80-85 cents of every premium dollar to make sure its spent on healthcare when these very same people have no intention of spending that same money raked in by fines and taxes on anything except getting reelected. its disgusting. i still think the gas lines sucked but im sure you probably made quite a bit of money on it back then. |

| Posted over 3 years ago No we didn't make money. The price we sellers got was $.05 a gallon no matter what the price per gallon was. I hated the gasoline bit. I had a Harley shop, got evicted and needed another location. This Fina station was up for sale and I got it. The gasoline was a necessary evil. Pump readings on opening and closing and recording them, storage tank level checks daily, weekly visits from the Fina man to check records and take the money. It sucked. And self-service was not happening then except in bigger cities like Dallas. It was all us and we hated it. "A dollars worth of regular please. And can you check the oil, my tire pressures and wash the windshield". That stopped pretty much when guys in black leather jackets looking ticked off starting answering the driveway bell. In fact when Nixon asked the stations to close on Sunday we opened on Sunday. The only station in El Paso that did. Lines formed, fights broke out, people rammed other people's cars for cutting in line - all in all it was great. I sold every gallon of gasoline I had to sell on Sunday and kept the pumps closed the rest of the week. I limited gasoline purchases to 5 gallons of regular or ethyl. No exceptions. Nobody was going to argue with guys from a motorcycle club who were manning the pumps. Oh yeah, one drunk guy did one afternoon. Got his car pushed into a ditch for his trouble and got no gas. Cops came but nobody had seen anything and guessed the drunk drove in there. He went away in the cop car and we sold out of gas an hour later. Using fines to get re-elected? Not likely. Election campaigns are run on contributions/bribes. See that box on your tax return wanting to know if you want to contribute $1 without affecting your refund for the Presidential campaign Fund? I always check "NO".

| Posted over 3 years ago looks like the bill arrived just in time ...if i get that resistant TB and lose my job and my health insurance i am so glad that you all will subsidizing my 500,000 buck treatment bill for the TB treatment that may or may not work.. do i have a guarantee on that ????? and say will i get a tax refund too??that would be nice and i would like assistance with insuring my entire family also since i was the breadwinner and if i go down so does the ship... so to speak. and as for fines or taxes being collected if the congress can make a law that states how much money the insurance industry spends of its premiums on healthcare than surely a law to make the politicians spend at least that much of every tax dollar collected on actually running the country would be a small kind gesture for us poor folks caught in the middle of their school yard fight. oh and i don't consider earmarking 3 million bucks for a field mouse habitat research grant "running the country"..barbara ...shame on you! |

| Posted over 3 years ago Did you know that 2 of the biggest earmarks on that bill were by GOP lawmakers? Republican Senators Thad Cochran and Roger Wicker - both of Mississippi. $8,000,000.00 for 4 little rural airports. The busiest serves less than 100 passengers a day. And that earmark tops the $4.4 million already given to them under the stimulus bill. Which, by the way, has helped boost the Dow to levels not seen since before this economic debacle onset during GWB. Obama saw fit to listen to the economic wizards and continue the programs started by Bush. Politics aside there, folks. Too bad the GOP cannot say the same about their party. Worlwide, economists have stated that the stimulus packages by both of our Presidents stemmed what would have been a worldwide hemorrhage that would have thrown the entire global market system into a years-long severe depression. Bad is it is now it could have been much worse. People get real. Get over this man being elected President. Kelly, your smelt? Protected by the Endangered Species Act of 1973. This bill replaced a collection of others and was written by the 93rd US Congress at the behest of RICHARD M NIXON!!!! GET OVER IT! The tax-and-spend Dems are actually the least culpable of both parties for economic crises and unpopular bills! Please tune to Fox News for further crapola. |

| Posted over 3 years ago i dont care whose president i predict mickey mouse could do this job as well if not better than most and as for the stimulus ..worldwide economists are a dime a dozen and if they are so good then goes the question why in the hell did they not see it coming??i did especially the housing collapse... what a joke keep telling yourself this is not a political game but what i have seen is self serving people doing more of the same regardless of party affiliation and mr brown i really don't think it matters anymore who is in charge what needs to happen now is that the ones like the 2 senators you mentioned with the earmarking need to get the big ol boot ! and without some laws being enacted on the books it appears we can't even do that. what a crock of poop. |

| Posted over 3 years ago The US housing mortgage business is what brought down the house of cards. Know what a credit default swap is? What goes up must come down. I, too, saw this coming and even my ex admits it even if grudgingly. And the risks were unknown by many overseas who invested in US markets while everything was rosy. But credit default swaps were an unregluated invention of Wall Street. Mortgages were given to anybody. These loans were then split up, packaged with other investments and sold to investors. Hardly a single home loan is owned by a single mortgage company or bank. That is what made the mortgage modification program a failure for the most part. Medicare. If it were not for Medicare where do you think most of our seniors would get health care? In the olden days, before LBJ (Democrat-Texas) a doctor would maybe see you and for sure send bills every single month. I remember that well with my grandfather getting them and paying what he could every month. Pay that, do without food. Call the doctor and ask if part payment would be OK because of other luxuries like electricity and gas. Try that now. Your disdain for the people who are supposed to help lead us out of this are part of the problem and not part of any solution. As long as relief is fought tooth-and-nail by knothead tea party tools this misery will be prolonged. Is what is proposed Nirvana or the end-to-all-ends? Heck no. But the Dow is up well over 10,000 as I write this. The NASDAQ and S&P are up strongly as well. That wasn't happening under GWB except in artificial terms propped up by a too-big mortgage market. Educate yourselves, folks. The means are out there. It's easy even if boring. Fight against what is wrong or harmful but not against the helpful or harmless. But you have to know the difference. Learn. |

| Posted over 3 years ago Mr Brown, you cannot make anyone like BO just because he is president. Why doesn't everyone get over blaming Bush for everything. He is not responsible for the crookedness that is going on right now. When it is ok to have so many crooked people in the administration then it is quite Ok to have so many crooked things surrounding this bill. Why don't you watch Fox for another view. |

| Posted over 3 years ago "Many Republicans worry that tax cuts without significant spending cuts cannot be sustained. Moreover, they note that much of the increase has been in nondefense discretionary spending. The conservative Club for Growth estimates that the Bush administration has increased domestic discretionary spending by 8.2 percent, compared with 2.5 percent during the Clinton years." - Christian Science Monitor, July 2004 Oh yes the Dems are the big spenders. Remember they did not become the majority until 2006. Obama has so many crooked people. Name names. Tom DeLay? Scooter Libby? Paul Wolfowitz? Alberto Gonzaelez? Here in Lubbock it is the most red necked conservative born again Christian place I have ever lived or even visited. yet Gonzaelez' hiring by TTU brought out hundreds of negative comments and feelings. And I do watch Fox News among other sources. It's how I know how pointed their views and heads are. When the President gave a speech focused on the TARP program Fox News' questions focused on stem cell research and a "global currency" concern! Get real. Nothing about buying what are already toxic assets (hence the name TARP). Of those issues, which is going to most immediately and dramatically affect your life? Now and in the future? |

I am still livid about the czar of education, and his Nambla connection BO has had some of the most distasteful "friends". Birds of a feather,... So there, how can anyone be confident about the bill , but especially with the "crooked" dealings. Nebraska, and the medicaid deal, terrible, terrible

| Posted over 3 years ago You know how they keep doing it? Because the overwhelming majority of voters really like these trolls bring the bacon home to the district they live in. Voters like you Kelly and like me and others. It is easy to pay lip service and say you are against pork and earmarks. But when it comes time for the rubber to meet the street people vote in those who take care of them. It's that easy. Now I included myself in the above so as not to attack anyone. But I assure you I vote the issue and not the politican. Now, how come a third (or fourth or more) alternative party doesn't rise up and take advantage of this political unhappiness? Capitalism. Capitalism and capitalists. The very system you say you like and approve of uses you. Uses you to make money for the rich. Make money to sponsor these political fat cats. Use that money to ensconce lobbyists of every ilk in Washington DC and your state capitol. Does the name Jack Abramoff ring a bell? It does for ol' Uncle Tom DeLay. DeLay - the conservative of conservatives from Texas - the home of the most conservative. "The Hammer". For those who get their news and form their views on sound bites - and you are easy to identify - check the link out below. Yes I know that you know lobbyists are bad. How do you know though? I mean do you really know? Know names and games? My guess is 90+% of you do not. www.cato.org/pub_display.php Now CATO is neither left nor right. And this particular author leans heavily toward Libertarianism. But I'm sure that somebody here will disavow his knowledge and credentials and views regardless. Folks, your enemy are the rich. Oh go ahead and defend them because, deep in your heart, you just know someday you might be one of them. Never. Know the difference between old money and those who got rich by themselves or winning a lottery? If you don't you'll never know that you will NEVER be one of "them". The rich are the ones who finance the untold numbers of lobbies and lobbyists. To make sure they stay rich and stay in power and white trash like you (and me) never darken even the entrance to that country club. PEASANTS! How dare ye think ye will e'er be on me level? Peasants! And so, fellow peasants, we stay victims because the majority of all of us, come election time, vote either R or D. And it really is that simple. You're scared your vote, if cast for some write-in candidate, will be wasted. And with the rich running the game while writing the rules, you are right. Only when "we" wise up and contribute even small amounts to someone who is different than those we know already, we are doomed to suffer the consqequences. Oh yeah, almost forgot. Look at the dateline on that story and tell me who was President and what party was in charge of Congress when that article with its solid facts and figures was written. In charge of Congress when the crimes took place.

| Posted over 3 years ago "Nobel laureate F.A. Hayek explained the process 60 years ago in his prophetic book The Road to Serfdom: "As the coercive power of the state will alone decide who is to have what, the only power worth having will be a share in the exercise of this directing power.""
And, so, I am assuming all those here who are most vocal in railing against the present President and his administration were equally enraged and equally vocal about the last Prez?
"You're doing a good job, Brownie" GWB, Hurricane Katrina (remember)
"WASHINGTON (CNN) -- President Bush on Friday nominated former New York City Police Commissioner Bernard Kerik to take over as secretary of homeland security. Bush called Kerik a "dedicated, innovative reformer who insists on getting results." He cited Kerik's work in New York where Bush said Kerik "had great success in reducing crime in New York City."" "An administration official said that on at least two occasions Giuliani made a personal pitch to the White House that Kerik be named to succeed Secretary of Homeland Security Tom Ridge, 59, who announced his resignation Tuesday." Ah yes Uncle Rudy, another conservative hero. Oh and lest ye think I'm knocking ol' George W alone, Schumer and Hillary Clinton were glad to endorse this bum! Of course, he was New Yawk. |

| Posted over 3 years ago I have not really been for any of the presidents in my adult lifetime, none have proven to be very good. I do think that President Obama has a lot of good intentions, and I for one am willing to give him a chance. After all we gave GWB a chance and he failed. The Health Care Reform bill is not perfect, but it is an attempt to help out those who have no insurance. It is apparent that the insurance companies are not going to help them out, so Obama is trying to. Yes it is going to cost a lot, but if we tax the rich like Obama wants to, we can pay for it. | Posted over 3 years ago Kelly it's up to those of us who care to shame these suckers into voting if all else fails. In Texas and New Mexico there is early voting. I don't know about other states. Go at your leisure to the places where early voting takes place and do it. I have voted weeks ahead of the day of the general election. "By God people, if our soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines can go and die to protect us and what rights are ours it ain't asking too d***ed much for you to get off your lazy a** and go vote!" That's what I generally tell them and it works most of the time. |

| Posted over 3 years ago yes i agree with you on that one mr brown and maybe his socialistic tendancies have brought him more trouble than he bargained for but he has the authority to appoint whomever he so pleases to the these czar postions and to the supreme court as well and he is doing what all good politicians do....appointing his buddies and that is where he has gotten himself into some trouble even within his own party ranks! he would do well to avoid men and women who have not paid their taxes that would be a good start and maybe even make a show of kicking out the ones who are now in power like nancy pelosi and harry reid and appointing some more shall we say....normal everyday taxpaying citizens to these political positions. that would go a long way in bolstering his point of being the president for everybody not just the special interests but alas of course i suppose there is no way for him to even do that small thing |

It is different and relevant. www.whereistheoutrage.net/wordpress/2009/01/18/the-top-43-appointees-who-helped-make-bush-the-worst-president-ever/ WASHINGTON, Feb. 13, 2004 /U.S. Newswire/ -- John Gage, National President of the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE), issued the following statement in response to a General Accounting Office report showing that over 27,000 defense contractors are evading taxes: "Over 10 percent of defense contractors refuse to pay back taxes that they owe to the federal government but continue to win new contracts. It is appalling that federal law allows government agencies to send new business to tax cheats while dedicated tax-paying civilian employees are being laid off. This is just another example of the Administration putting cronyism before common sense. "Even more distasteful is the fact that most of these cases involve payroll taxes. Payroll taxes are funds collected by businesses from employee salaries to be handed over to the federal government. Businesses never actually own these funds. If contractors cannot be trusted to even act as a go-between, why would we ..." Ahem, who was cap'n at the helm then? |

| Posted over 3 years ago Mr Brown, you searched back a long way, and that is 10 percent, I say 10 percent of people are criminals, abuse children, cheat and steal. I could copy and paste so much but I find that futile, this is about our thoughts, and I assume most know the pros and cons of each person. I could write about each person in his administration including Sebelius. I have a picture of her and me at a banquet. She is nice but did nothing for Kansas, in fact caused many problems. She also "forgot " to pay taxes. But I will continue to obsess about his czar of education. But his administration is higher than 10 percent and he does nothing about it. But stop blaming Bush. This is BO's problem. You just need to accept that he is not respected by more and more people every day. He has been a whiney , wishy washy person. Really to let the Senate make these horrific deals to get this bill passed is disgraceful and I don't care how many deals have been made since the beginning of time. These states that will supposedly benefit "forever" and make neighboring states pay for this is appalling and unethical. Back to the bill, how does this improve healthcare. My last patient told me he was at a Mayo Clinic in Arizona, visiting and his wife had an MI. they refused him because she had medicare. Sent her 6 miles down the road...she did die. Well this is going to be more to come. A doctor I collaborate with only will take 5 percent of patients that are on medicare and medicaid and even though he is young says he will just retire, or take cash only if this bill proceeds.

| Posted over 3 years ago My whole point is this - so many here really cry and whine and howl about Obama. Where was their outrage when the very same stuff happened with Bush? Why the non-productive squealing now? When one's attention is taken up fighting shadows the truly evil crap slips by unnoticed. That is my whole point about Fox News in fact. They let this whole TARP speech by Obama go by and their main concerns, illustrated by their direct questions and comments at that time, had to do with his allowing stem cell research and the fear of a global currency. That plays right into the hands of slippery politicans. Take up the press time answering those absolutely presently unimportant points and the TARP program rolls on. Can you tell me what is going on with it right now? But you can tell me about a Medicaid deal with some Senator. Why is that? Because the rich, including Rupert Murdoch, want those troubled assets removed from their portfolios by you and me. And so they will be. "Oh by the way, did you see where he's going to allow stem cell research?" "Hang them for that. Off with their heads". Oh and did you see where they have plans for a global currency? And you know what it says about a global currency in the Bible signaling the end times! "Oh my God, he better tell us why he's planning that". Meanwhile the government relieves the rich of a bad investment they made attempting to get richer. It failed and so we must bail them out. After all many are down to their last few hundred million. When they lose, we lose. When they win, we still lose. Heads they win, tails we lose. There is no going back too far, Margaretellen. In fact it's when we fail to remember and learn from all "that" that we set ourselves up for more and more of the same. |
