| Posted over 3 years ago well mr brown i only defend this hill because its the one i live on ....healthcare...i could give a rats butt about stem cell research but lemme tell you when janet n the homeland security czar said what she said several hours ago it tells me that Pres Obama has appointed a rather stupid and uninformed idiot to be head of security...its as if we knew more about what happend on that flight than she did...unexcusable and she should get the boot but will she ???hell no just as you say the sheeple are easily manipulated by the thought of global currency and stem cell research which means literally butkiss to the survival of mankind should middle eastern gentleman with questionable backgrounds be granted unlimited visas by the idiots in charge who are more worried about how it looks vs how IT IS!!! egads that is my complaint ! maybe bush was equally as bad at being a president as BaraK Obama but geez whiz he did take security of the people a little bit more seriously!! yes yes and i know that Haliburton is the devil but hell they were there before anybody else and just like michael jackson nobody knew more about pop he did and so did haliburton know more about the oily business dealings of the middle easterns than anyone else. its true this is a ship without a rudder here and somebody better wake up and grab the wheel or we are going down matey! we should be profiling these people like there is no tomorrow and the money we should be spending is on getting our troops the hell out of hell. leave these people to rot in the 4 th century where they want to remain. |

You are right kelly, and our 'homeland' chief tells us the system worked. I want whatever they are smoking. They are all delusional. |

Good god... that imbecile Bush the lesser put in place the TSA... our current president had nothing to do with the formation of the TSA... and Napolitano was doing nothing more than continuing what was being done already... I have no idea if you travel internationally..... but judging by your posts you do not.... but Amsterdam is actually one of the most secure and diligent airports on the planet. Yup.. even more than anyplace in the US.... If you have an idea of how to discover PETN on a person.. I think you could patent that technology and retire. Man will not be free until the last lawyer is strangled with the entrails of the last priest. With apologies to Voltaire |

| Posted over 3 years ago WASHINGTON -- The explosive device used by the would-be Detroit bomber contained a widely available -- and easily detected -- chemical explosive that has a long history of terrorist use, according to government officials and explosive experts. The chemical -- PETN -- is small, powerful and appealing to terrorists. The Saudi government said it was used in an assassination attempt on the country's counterterrorism operations chief in August. It was also a component of the explosive that Richard Reid, the convicted "shoe bomber," used in his 2001 attempt to down an airliner. PETN was used widely in the plastic explosives terrorists used to blow up airplanes in the 1970s and '80s. http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2009/dec/28/detroit-explosive-common-easily-detectable/
I have flown internationally, and PETN is detectable. I've even had my carry on baggage swabbed for it.

| Posted over 3 years ago PETN detection "Law enforcement officials say Abdulmutallab hid a condom or condom-like pouch below his torso containing PETN, the primary ingredient in detonating cords used for industrial explosions. Airport "puffer" machines that blow air on a passenger to collect and analyze residues would probably have detected the powder, as would bomb-sniffing dogs or a hands-on search using a swab, they said, but most passengers in airports go through only magnetometers, which detect metal rather than explosives" http://www.stltoday.com/stltoday/news/stories.nsf/nation/story/484B1DB8F12DED018625769A00131EF1?OpenDocument |

| Posted over 3 years ago i am truely sorry for all you international travellers but submitting to a cotton swab of your carry on baggage and now yur crotch is now necessary...... anyone for profiling ???? get in line over here!!! that should save at least 4 hours of pre board BS right there! |

| Posted over 3 years ago My understanding is that PETN, while powerful, is very difficult to detonate. That it takes another small detonation with good old ntg to actually make the petn blow. That's why they say it takes two vials, one of the PETN and another of powdered explosive. They told me when they swabbed my bags, that it would tell if my bags had 'been even in the presence of explosive', that the residue gets on clothing and baggage. |

| Posted over 3 years ago Maybe we should just profile the members of the Overseas Contingency Operation group. Not terrorist, not a war on terror, but people that cause accidents....Gee wasn't that a dumb thing to start-On the news, I noticed everyone using war on terror and terrorist, not the nice term obama wanted --contingency, my eye. I agree that Napolitano was so wrong and she always looks like she is recovering from a big drunk. Another terrible appointee. Is there anyone that has been appointed that seems to be like a decent human being? I haven't found one yet. Whoops a few resigned. Back to the bill, this is why people are so fed up with this bill, They are not just crooks, they are stupid crooks. I know someday I will have grandchildren studying this fiasco in school. I hope it has a good ending. |

| Posted over 3 years ago Ok folks, here's the deal. There will be another attack no matter who is in charge. Probably another domestic terrorist since they seem to have better success here number of success not number of casualties. The terrorists are criminals, not combatants, and they operate like criminals. We need an international group of intelligence, spy, special ops, criminal investigators to go an get them and their money wherever it is. This is not a war, armies and troops do not solve it. This is police work and intell. But yeah we should go bomb the crap out of Yemen for harboring the bad guys. No boots on the ground, only Air Power Baby! Yes we should try the scrotum bomber in our courts because that's who we are as Americans and no he won't get off because there is evidence and witnesses etc. By the way when people on the right like Pat Buchanan get on TV and say we should deny the scrotum bomber pain meds as a form of torture that is un American and inhumane. Who do they want us to become? We are never safe anywhere anymore. That is the way it is. Keep your guard up, report unusual behaviors etc, I always watch who is getting on planes, where they sit, who they talk to etc. Believe me if I saw that guy talking about not having a passport and working the system I would have found security and airline reps immediately and reported it so he would have been detained. The sheeple stood around and noticed it but did nothing. We are all eye and ears to keep us safe. If Demint the dimwit would allow us to have a director of TSA, not block his confirmation, and not worry about maybe getting them unionized we might have a better system. Oh yes the party of NO is once again helping the American people. RNprogressive |

A recent "Investor's Business Daily" article provided very interesting statistics from a survey by the United Nations International Health Organization.
Percentage of men and women who survived a cancer five years after diagnosis: U.S. 65% England 46% Canada 42%
Percentage of patients diagnosed with diabetes who received treatment within six months: U.S. 93% England 15% Canada 43%
Percentage of seniors needing hip replacement who received it within six months: U.S. 90% England 15% Canada 43%
Percentage referred to a medical specialist who see one within one month: U.S. 77% England 40% Canada 43%
Number of MRI scanners (a prime diagnostic tool) per million people: U.S. 71 England 14 Canada 18
Percentage of seniors (65+), with low income, who say they are in "excellent health": U.S. 12% England 2% Canada 6%
Moreover, it was Sen. Harry Reid who said, "Elderly Americans must learn to accept the inconveniences of old age." Kitty, we have the same problem.............................I wished my husband had attached the article with his info, I really want the article post attached with the source. As usual liberals will will want the poo poos. Yup.............the Brits have the best change we are going to get. Personally you got your healthcare....................enjoy! k.................I dont blame Obama for that jerk sneaking over 300 people just to kill Americans, they hate us and dont care how we die. |

| Posted over 3 years ago Investor's Business Daily is a seriously right slanted media vehicle, not that there is anything wrong with that just so you know who is presenting what. Here is an exerpt from an article that the British people have taken on the lies written about their healthcare and how they feel their system provides for them. Just a comparison. These kinds of attacks on the NHS aren’t unusual or new, but what is unique is the British response this time to the mad attacks on their healthcare system. British citizens — particularly tech savvy residents — are fighting back on Twitter. The top trending topics after Hannan’s FOX declarations included #welovetheNHS and #NHS. British Twitterers boasted ‘I Heart NHS’ avatars designed by Twibbon, a group that spreads awareness about causes by overlaying an image onto supporters’ Twitter profile avatars. The Twibbon team says during our interview that the response to the ‘I Heart NHS’ design has been “magnificent.” They add, “In the UK, people often talk about political apathy and show concern over disappointing voting turnouts. What everyone has shown over the last few days is a testament to the power of social networking, and Twitter in particular, not only to unite people in solidarity, but also to initiate global conversations at grassroots level.” Graham Linehan, the man behind the #welovetheNHS tag, tells me he was motivated by FOX’s irresponsible coverage of the healthcare reform debate.
What really inspired Linehan to do something was when Investor’s Business Daily published an editorial claiming Steven Hawking “wouldn’t have a chance in the U.K., where the National Health Service would say the life of this brilliant man, because of his physical handicaps, is essentially worthless.” Of course, the claim is absurd as Hawking stated later, pointing out that he would not be alive today if it hadn’t been for the NHS. Where other British citizens saw gross lies, exaggerations, and frustrating half-truths, Linehan saw a “golden opportunity to kickstart a campaign to redress the balance a little bit.” He linked to the Hawking article and the #welovetheNHS hashtag was born. “I thought it might pick up steam once people saw the ridiculousness of that story, but I had no idea how big it would become. Three days now, and we’re still trending,” says Linehan. The online response to the We Love the NHS campaign is overwhelming. “NHS Saved my life as a 19 year old naive lad!” writes one Brit. ”Saved my life, saved my wife’s life, beat my brother-in-law’s cancer and embodies a compassionate civilized ideal #welovetheNHS,” writes one more. The movement now includes some of Britain’s most powerful leaders, including Prime Minister Gordon Brown, who Tweeted “NHS often makes the difference between pain and comfort, despair and hope, life and death. Thanks for always being there #welovetheNHS.” British newspapers, politicians, and medics are rushing into the debate partly to defend the NHS and partly to gain some kind of political leverage. Labor hoped to embarrass David Cameron by challenging him to disown the Hannan comments, which he did. “Nobody should be in any doubt, for the Conservative Party, the NHS is the number one priority,” said Cameron to Sky News. The British newspaper, Daily Mirror, has started calling America ”the land of the fee” because of the way patients are forced to pay for medical services. Senior figures in British healthcare are also frustrated at the portrayal of the NHS. Mike Hobday, of Macmillan Cancer Support, stated: “We are really furious at the way in which the NHS, which is the best healthcare system around, is being denigrated by a group of people who clearly don’t have the first idea about how it works.” “The NHS does a damn fine job,” says president of the UK Faculty of Public Health, Dr. Alan Maryon-Davis. “These claims are complete and utter rubbish…The horrific thing about the American system is that there are tens of millions of people without health insurance. We spend less on health in terms of GDP than America but if you look at health indices, especially for life expectancy, we have better figures than they do in America,” he adds. The nexus of the Internet makes the dissemination of disinformation difficult. Such interconnectedness means the lie of “dangerous Socialized medicine” cannot sustain itself when Brits of all ages and backgrounds shout to the rafters that they love the NHS, and are here to defend it. | Posted over 3 years ago with regards to not allowing confirmation of the TSA guy lemme just say this....having worked for a union i can tell yu they much like the military will allow losers to work for them forever. in fact the only way the military gets rid of some of its losers is by telling them they exceed their healthy weight!!! same for unions its very difficult nay almost impossible to get rid of loser employees much less demote them to the mail room!! good god have you ever tried to change anything quickly in the military ????? i have heard its next to impossible and that is the same for any unionized job. Change takes too long and with all the BS that has happend with the security this year be it for a white house party or the airport bungle change MUST be able to occur at lightspeed. I guarantee you Pres Obama fired several people over his lil party and should fire Napolitano as well over her lacking attitude with regards to airport security. Especially since she has spent most of this year doing pretty much nothing except letting the airport security handbook go on line for all to see!! So why not pick someone else instead of sitting on your duff for eight months whining about it and then when something goes terribly wrong start blaming everyone else !!! egads i say do we have kids running the show??? |

| Posted over 3 years ago Demint the dimwitis holding the admistration up not just the appointee because he wants it guaranteed that there will gbe no attempt at unionizing. Our cops are unionized and the firefighters all of who responded heroically on 911 and also took down the shooter at Ft Hood recently. The union had no effect on their abilities to do the job and do it well. As far as the military please do not lump all the services together. The Air Force is very proactive in getting rid of the chafe. The saying is in the AIr Force' Flexibility is the key to airpower" you may be referring to the Army and the Navy who are more heavily steeped in tradition. The air force has to be able to adapt to new threats rapidly and leathaly or they cannot do their jobs. So 1 senator is holding everything up and not even allowing hearings or debate on the issue. WHo made him the guardian of the American people? How about he back off and let democracy flourish? RNprogressive |

| Posted over 3 years ago Sure - let's keep putting the blame on one party. Spare me. The system stinks. The parties are corrupt. Politicians are vote grabbing self-perpetuating power hungry hacks. Blaming the "Evil OTHER party" just feeds into their agenda... Blame those EVIL Republicans (or Democrats) and elect US and all will be well! I can't believe that even the obviously intelligent posters here fall for this crap. |

| Posted over 3 years ago Usually I can see your point, Cap'n. Not this time. This is an extremely important security position in need of oversight. This is politics at its lowest. The turd happens to be a Republican as I pointed out. I did not choose his party for him. Republicans = Big Business = Fear of unions to the point of stupidity. This is absolutely not a valid point to hold up a confirmation over.
