| Posted about 3 years ago Once again, I get so aggrevated with the people who obviously didn't pay attention in history class. LOOK UP THE DEFINITION OF SOCIALISM. Having road services is NOT socialism. THE fact that you don't understand what socialism is proves that you don't understand or have one iota of a grasp as to what is going on. Having a library and a police department is NOT soicalism. Barack campaigned that his first priority was bringing the troops home, so yes a year into this if that's what he said, it should have been done. so·cial·ism (s![]() sh -l z![]() m) KEY NOUN:

| Posted about 3 years ago BTW, I'm waiting to find out for those of you that don't have health care are going to react when you are forced to buy healthcare....and you find out that you make too much income to qualify for assistance. I'll bet some of you will choose the fine, because the fine will be cheaper. |

| Posted about 3 years ago i am also interested in the ones who don't have healthcare and get the subsidized version. who will be the doctors that take these patients? the reimbursement will not be bettter than what they are recieving for the medicare patient which in CA is around 30 cents on the dollar! Many times the medicare pts are authorized for care and then the claim is denied! Somewhere i read that the government actually denies more claims than the insurance companies! the government has already displayed that it has a very unusual view of the health of individuals and i guess their clever way around losing money by accepting those with pre conditions is to deny them care when they cannot resist their urges to smoke drink or eat 40 twinkies!! i forsee some very angry folks but of course there is always the ER for these people who are denied their subsidy AHHH kinda like what we have going on already!! good job dems you have really fixed the problems we have with our model. i suppose under this new plan we will shoot right out of our 37th place on the list straight to the top!! |

| Posted about 3 years ago Socialism refers to the various theories of economic organization which advocate either public or direct worker ownership and administration of the means of production and allocation of resources.[1][2][3] A more comprehensive definition of socialism is an economic system that has transcended commodity production and wage labor, where economic activity is carried out to maximize use-value as opposed to exchange-value, including in its definition a corresponding change in social and economic relations; such as the organization of economic institutions and resource allocation;[4] often implying advocacy for a method of compensation based on the amount of labor expended.[5] Socialists generally share the view that capitalism unfairly concentrates power and wealth among a small segment of society that controls capital and derives its wealth through a system of exploitation. This in turn creates an unequal society, that fails to provide equal opportunities for everyone to maximise their potential,[6] and does not utilise technology and resources to their maximum potential nor in the interests of the public.[7 Above from Wikipedia A deeper definition speaking to public and privately owned aspects of society. I am not saying Obama or our government are becoming socialist merely including more in the definition for understanding. Although some redistribution of wealth for the good of society IE Roads, Hospitals, schools, etc is desirable, NO ? how else to pay for them or only allow those that are of private ownership. Umm what part of the mantra of personal responsibility to buy your own insurance etc doesn't extend to take care of your health? Don't eat 40 twinkies etc. Why only personal responsibility for paying for things and not for living your life? Sort of like no abortions to save the unborn but no healthcare for children after they are born?

| Posted about 3 years ago Hence Government takeover of banks, automotive industry and attempted takeover of the healthcare system; I think that pretty much sums of public ownership of production and allocation of resources IE Socialism. |

| Posted about 3 years ago George bush tried some very effective changes yet the democrats voted them down. Look it up, some of the same things now are being looked at again. Who started the war in Iraq, the terrorists, not us. Who started the war in the US--Obama |

| Posted about 3 years ago The terrorists had nothing to do with Iraq before GWB preemptively invaded a sovereign country. I will keep repeating the truth until you guys hear it. You cannot revise history. He would not listen when advisors told him there was no reason to invade, he was looking for an excuse to invade all along. All those lives in Iraq were lost and damaged for his ego oh yeah and the oil and the military industrial complex gorging themselves at the plate of American war. Obama did not start any war in the US. He only started to change the status quo and 25% of Americans believe the spew on AM radio and FOX. The ones who are cutting gas lines at houses and spitting on people and calling them racial slurs ( although none of this is about race is it????) and talking about using guns are not the Democrats/Independents.
From the UK examiner ( I took my source outside the US so bias would not be an issue) And then there's the Parkinson's victim. Turns out 60-year-old Robert Lechter was first diagnosed with Parkinson's 15 years ago. He has two Master's Degrees and a PhD from Cornell. He taught at the University of Michigan and worked as a nuclear engineer. Lechter was able to have a $150,000 surgery thanks to Medicare and the Cleveland Clinic. It has greatly increased his quality of life. He attended the event in Columbus because he believes in giving back and thinks everyone should have access to affordable health insurance and quality health care. There is a vidoe attached to this article of an interview with the patient. http://www.examiner.com/x-15870-Populist-Examiner~y2010m3d20-Parkinsons-patient-gains-national-attention-from-healthcare-rally-confrontation No Margretellen not a fake, Teabaggers really did verbally attack a truly sick man and many stood around and watched. The man wasn't asking for a handout he has taken the steps to get help, see you must not have even read about what really happened. He put himself out there to help others, not himself. What a concept! RNprogressive |

| Posted about 3 years ago Ok what do I do after 911? I was an RN reservist in the United States Air Force and retired 1 year ago. I have worked extensively with military families to support them during deployments and at overseas assignments. I was on the board of a joint military spouse organization that raised over $300000 a year to give away to military and Okinawan charities on the island of Okinawa. I also volunteered 20 plus hours a week in the shop that generated these funds. I give lots of money to save the whales the forests the abused animals etc., To fund the training of search and rescue dogs used by fire departments around the country. Currently, I coordinate and volunteer in a shop that gives away over $50000 per year to charities and activities that support Active duty families, young airman and the poor . I volunteer twice a year if possible with Special Olympics. I also have been known to speak out against bigotry and hatred when I see it-- like the other day when some middle aged tourists started talking about racial minorities as dead beats, criminals and uneducated monkeys. Including a joke where the teller had to hesistate until she came up with a substitute word instead of the N word which she almost said. How many n---uh-- ducks does it take , yadayadayada. Yes in our America in broad daylight and in a crowd awaiting a tour of the Pearl Harbor memorial. I turned around and said" The men who gave their lives on that ship that day in defense of our nation and since did not die or serve to support you spewing hate and ignorance. By the way there are children here and we can only hope they don't hear you because this type of thinking needs to die with you. Yes, you are lucky enough to have Freedom of Speech you should use it wisely." And you? RNprogressive |

| Posted about 3 years ago I don't consider my 4 years of active duty military service nor my husband who is currently drilling in the Army reserves (or your military time for that matter) volunteer work. Volunteer to me is UNPAID time. We were all paid and well benefited for our time. While all military service is honorable and I hold it in high regard, It is in the same stead as policemen or firemen (and nurses for that matter). I hold in higher esteem those that were drafted and sent into combat. I volunteer weekly with a local rescue squad. Not twice a year, or a donation here and there. I have done in the past, volunteer visitations in nursing homes, gave christmas gifts to those in nursing homes that didn't get any, meals on wheels, volunteered at center that gave clothes and food to those in need, nursery services for a church (over 100 hours), as well as EMS volunteering in another state. All unpaid. I also care for both of my elderly parents. My father has Alzeimers disease and my Mother has IDDM. They live with me. My husband, voluteers weekly, with the same rescue squad. He volunteered today 9 hours. My teenage son, is in the process of becoming an EMT while attending high school so that he can volunteer as well.

| Posted about 3 years ago Nice list of helping others, well done, however, I don''t see taking care of family as volunteer time it is expected. I do other things but chose not to list them actually. Perhaps you didn't get my drift I wasn't and am not paid for any of the activities I listed besides what I was paid for the 50 plus days a year in the reserves. The shop I volunteer with donates hundreds of clothing items a week to homeless shelters, halfway houses, unwed mother homes, etc. As to what I would have done after 911? Going after those who trained and financed the hijackers in Aghanistan was correct, diverting forces from there for a needless war in Iraq was not. Hence we are in the position we are in now in Afghanistan--these are not my surmises but many in the military have written on this subject. By the way the congress signed off on it because they were sold a bill of goods like all of us about WMD. I could go on but why beat a dead horse. There is plenty of documentation out there about the past and now we need to move forward. What are all of your bright ideas on how to make more nurses? How to improve the wellness of those in our country? Why do we have people threatening Congressmen with guns etc? What happened to reasoned discourse? Why are people so angry, bitter and cynical in your posts/ General questions not directed at anyone in particular. RNprogressive |

| Posted about 3 years ago people are angry they feel unrepresented by their congress people. especially the ones that defect to other parties once elected. that is a small small portion of people and hardly represents the majority. the rest of us go to work everyday and have no time to pontificate on the constitution or any kind of politics for that matter! the only reason i have even remotely begun to give a rat's butt is because now a lot of the BS that is occurring up there on capitol hill is affecting me my family my job and my coworkers ! as for volunteering i am impressed with anyone who freely gives their time to care for others esp those who take volunteer jobs that risk their lives. as for nursing it is the best profession in the world and i feel that anyone who does our kind of work has a real heart. the real truth of this healthcare "reform" will eventually come out as has the loan debacle the banks and the automotive industry and what running 2 wars has done to our country. there will never be any secrets in history forever as the truth always has a way of letting itself be known. i await the truth as it will not be any surprise to me. however i cannot speak for everyone Long live the Republic |

| Posted about 3 years ago I have to reply to the prior post by rnprog, the man on the ground. Are you not curious which friend placed him on the ground. Have you seen people with parkinsons, sit themselves on the ground? Don't you know people with parkinsons with less education, know how to apply for disability. Maybe one of his nice friends, that put him on the ground also know that he is too mentally ill to know how to apply for disability. This was staged and I would not doubt that the people that harassed him were also staged. How is it that cameras are only by the ones that get the news. Did you read about his qualifications? This whole thing is a joke. |

| Posted about 3 years ago Healthcare Bill might help in controlling the raising the cost of Health Insurance Premiums., will help the people with pre-existing conditions get the affordable insurance thereby get treatment., this also has negative loop holes where people will misuse this opportunity just like Medicaid thereby causing the Tax Payers burden. |

| Posted about 3 years ago Wow did you see all the companies like ATT etc that are going to lose millions to billions because of the health care bill. Guess I will buy some cows, plant gardens and learn how to can food. I have faith that we have now hit barock bottom and things can only get better when some people are moved out of office. |

There are 16 states filing court procedings thrat are considered non-constitutional.........texas, Virginia, and I heard Idaho was bringin up the rear on that bundh. All these fancy shmancy lawsuits will mean squat unless everybody gets out of bed and votes for the midterm elections in November. Next week, there is aspecial election in Florida..........a Republican trying to cornhole a dem for a seat in congress, and fatty Murtha's seat in Penn. will have the election in April. Ive told all of my family, even the newly 18 yr olds to vote because this will be the most important vote of their/our lives. By turning Congress and Senate you stop funding this who health care mess..............then all the lawmakers can just playwith themselves. VOTE VOTE VOTE~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Inform the 18 yrs old if they dont vote they are gonna get stuck with changing my depends and clipping my toenails.. My husband said bribing would be better but I told him thats illegal. |

| Posted about 3 years ago I dont' know if these threads got to radical. Maybe I missed something with the note from the editor. But I believe health care is political. It is politics that is dictating the care of patients. So as a nurse, my concern is caring for patients, not aiding them to expediate their death. I just don't know how to talk about the current health care bill without bringing politicians in this. The topic is called Nursing Politics/Activisim. What other group is she talking about? |

| Posted about 3 years ago I just pray that the kinks are worked out and Pharmaceutical companies are brought to their knees! This is the next thing the Republicans should focus on,oh nevermind they may be in bed with them also! All politics is gutter business and we are their guinea pigs. It all sickens me to know that I truly am not in a democratic society and the big fish continue to pad the pockets of our leaders!
I wonder how mad would people get if tobacco was outlawed and Pharmaceuttical companies were put under the govt microscope! We'd have a civil war on our hands! It's all a big mess! |

| Posted about 3 years ago I know the problem, pinknurse with med costs are scary........however we still are a free country. Where is the incentive for a company to produce a product and charge whatever they need to to cover the cost of research and development? We are headed to socialism right now unless we stop funding with congress. Hey I heard a couple of soundbites when Obama said we had 57 states! Im still giggling. Yup, that was on AM radio. My husband listens to that, personally, I prefer country music. |

| Posted about 3 years ago A free market, angie, is based on competition. That is what drives the cost of a product. The pharmaceuticals have a stranglehold on the American people, because competition has been taken away. They own that drug, and no one else can produce it for years. As far as money for R& D, more money goes into advertising than actual R&D. |
