Posted over 3 years ago I have been an LPN for 17 years and have tried all kinds of nursing including geriatrics, pediatrics, cadiothoracic, hospice, home care, hospital float nurse, floor charge and manager.Of all these possitions I tend to move on do to burn out or pay problems or distance??I wish I could just stay in one job and love it.I always love to be a nurse and help my patients have a better quality of life, I just tend to get cought up in the politics and management problems including {frequently} staffing issues.I know we all face these problems, but I geuss I just need some good advice on what I should do to stay steady in my job and have better coping skills for the stress of nursing?? |

| Posted over 3 years ago Welcome to the club. Many of us have been in that same situation. Most people change jobs every few years, so I wouldn't worry about the frequent job changes. It has never hurt me. Sounds to me like the issue is not what type of nursing you do, but how you handle your work environment. I've been in that boat. Too damn honest for my own good, sometimes. My suggestion would be several fold. Seek counseling and address any axiety, depression, or life stress issues you may have that may interfere with work. This is particularly important if you are drinking too much or abusing substances (not saying you are, it is just that this is a sign of unresolved stress). Attend a workshop on working in toxic enviornments and learning to cope with the different management styles (autocratic, laizee faire, democratic, etc). Look into activities outside of work that will help you deal with stress: yoga, tai chi, etc. Make sure you are eating and sleeping properly. |
