| Posted over 3 years ago All I found was "Passing standard for the NCLEX-RN Examination raised by the NCSBN Board of Directors." on the ncsbn website.

| Posted over 3 years ago The NCLEX RN is a computer adaptive test. What this means is the difficulty level of the questions changes in response to the number of correct and incorrect answers the candidate gives during the exam. With each right answer, subsequent questions become harder and harder until the candidate misses a question. The next question is easier, and easier until another correct answer is scored. The test scores not based on the number of right or wrong answers, but on the number of right answers of a certain difficulty level. The test uses a mathematical algorhythm to determine if a candidate is competent to practice nursing. The logits mentioned on the NCSBN website are the statistical differences in difficulty level that the test uses to determine competency. I don't completely understand how that works myself, but that's the gist of it. Bear in mind, you can get every single knowledge/comprehension question right and still fail NCLEX. The NCLEX does not care WHAT you know. It cares that you know what to DO. What an RN would do, not the doctor.

Posted over 3 years ago Interesting... I was wondering about those "logits" myself. I tried reading the pdf about them which explained their role in how the NCLEX functioned (as you said, an adaptive kind of test) but I have to admit I'm still a bit lost about what they are.

Posted over 3 years ago Ultimately, the most important thing to focus on is your ability to think critically, and to develop test taking strategies, rather than freak out that the NCLEX is "harder". If you are well prepared, you will pass. An NCLEX review course can help you with the latter. There are also review books that can help you with this. Practice NCLEX questions daily. 10 questions a day in 15 minutes; use a timer. When you get 100% correct, go to 14 minutes, then 13, etc. That helps you build your test taking muscle. You'll start with 1.5 minutes per question. NCLEX gives you 1 minute per question, effectively (assuming you take the entire 6 hours you are given to answer the max of 360 questions you can get). Good luck!

Posted over 3 years ago I was told you will have to know how to work a ventilator and there will be new alternative choice question. This change will happen in April 2010!

Posted over 3 years ago Someone told me that they had to put on headphones to listen and identify heart sounds.

Posted over 3 years ago so i heard from my instructor that there are a few changes for the April 2010 nclex. definitely more alternative style questions than there already are. Actually, i am taking the boards in a month and she said that there may already be questions where you have to listen to heart OR breath sounds. so anyone planning to take the test in early 2010, definitely find a website to listen to those sounds! good luck

Posted over 3 years ago http://evolve.elsevier.com is a good website, I use it for all my clinical skills practices. I will see if they have a ventilator course. Check it out. You have to register first. Happy Newryear to everyone!!! I am a proud mother of three beautyful daughter. I currently live in Los Angeles California. I've worked as a heathecare provider for almost 10 years. I am curently in school to pursue my MSN in nursing, and wants to work as a pediactric nurse, in public health.

Posted over 3 years ago It is true that sound and video may be a part of the NCLEX RN. Bear in mind, however, that questions focus on entry level nursing practice, not expert level nursing practice. You're not going to see bizarre things on the NCLEX as far as content goes. Remember also, that NCLEX uses Bloom's Taxonomy: the real trick is to be able to synthesize and analyze data to reach the correct conclusion. It's not black and white identification (Knowledge/comprehension). I would NOT take a ventilator course on the off chance you might get a vent question. Any vent question can be solved by using basic common sense; for example, check the tubing for kinks. You're not going to have to know the ins and outs of vent settings because that's not entry level nursing practice. Practice your skills at "select all that apply" questions--there are usually a fair amount of those.

Posted about 3 years ago The NCLEX is suppose to get harder in April is what I hear, they are rasing the bar. I just took my NCLEX boards on March the 4th. I got 75 questions which is the minimum you can get the max is 265. It is right that the number of questions does not mean anything. I have a friend who got all 265 questions and passed. The way it was explained to me in a class was that there is the line that is where you are minimally safe and you need to stay above the line when answering questions> So if you get 3 questions right and they do get harder and then get 3 wrong in a row then you are at the line you can drop below the line but if you stay there the computer shuts down. So if you take tests in school and see that you cluster your wrong answers that could be a problem on the NCLEX. I had the head phones but got no questions that you needed to use it. Got hotspots---all that apply-- med calulations -- click and drop in order. The basics of it is know your delegation, priority, and assignment. That is a big part of it. And yes they want to know that you think like a nurse not a doctor. Oh and by the way I PASSED Our service to others is the rent we pay while here on earth!!

Posted about 3 years ago I am about to graduate a nursing program and I know that they say they are going to start changing the exams every three years and this started back in 2003...so in 2007 there was a new exam and in 2010 (April 1st to be exact) there is a new exam and the exam is suppose to be more realistic to what nurses are doing in practice today. The national exam people survey current nurses in practice and based in what they say the new exam will apply what they do on a everyday basis. Also, the pharm questions will now have just the generic names and not the trademarks anymore...The exam is computer adaptive so the better you do the harder the questions but if you are having difficulty they will give you easier questions to try and get you back on track and based on my instructors the questions will be the basic requirements to be a nurse and some of the questions will include some future questions for future exams.... I take my HESI this week and a nurse in the unit where i am doing my role transition said the HESI is the best exam to prepare you for the new exam...

Posted almost 3 years ago I just took my NCLEX on July 7. I am NYS. I had 263 questions. Most were delegation, priority and select all that apply. There were headphones and I was informed that there would be audio on my exam but I did not have any. I did have to pick out an EKG strip in relation to Digoxin, I had a math question that I had to type in the answer and there was a picture of a would and I had to state what kind of dressing I would put on it. I think that I am horrible at select all that apply. I was nauseous when I came out of the exam. I was there for about the full 6 hours. I have the option but have decided not to pay to find out my results. I thought the exam was hard. I really hope I don't have to take it again.
