Posted over 3 years ago I joined this network to see if any one is as old as I am and going to nursing school. I have my AA degree and want to become a nurse. I am taking my prerequisites for my BSN starting this semester. My next goal is to try and get into the nursing program. |

| Posted over 3 years ago Not knowing your age, I don't know! But I was 42 when I graduated from nursing school, and in other discussions here I have seen people who are in nursing school in their 40's, 50's and even 60's. |

| Posted about 3 years ago i'm 32 and considering doing my BSN after transferring this fall 2010 after I complete my BA in two years ... in the meantime considering another alternative way into nursing, or another medical career on the way to nursing. I will be in my late thirties when I'm done. |

| Posted about 3 years ago Hi all! I'm 32 as well labronson, and am working to apply to an Accl-BSN program here in Los Angeles next Fall (I graduate with my BA in the Spring)...and given how many people are returning to nursing, just starting out, or pursuing advanced degrees in nursing I don't think there is any age that limits you in what you want to do. For me the "age" conversation was just a little bit of fear (like, well, if everyone says I'm too old then I have an excuse not to go for it ;) ) mixed in with a healthy dose of "what will other people think of me?" :) I've ALWAYS wanted to be a nurse, just never 'fessed up to it ...to myself or others. But once I decided this is what I'm going to do, it's given me a real forward-looking future. I've started pushing myself in my final classes JUST to see how hard I can push myself, I've also signed up for 4 summer 6-week classes that will fulfill some final pre-reqs in the sciences (which is a lot, given how intense they are) because I know the accelerated program is going to require my full attention, going at a fast pace. I've just decided that I'm a match for the mountain when it comes to pursuing my nursing degree and truthfully who cares what other people think...This is what I want to do and that's where I've always wanted to be. So I'm just going, full steam ahead...totally excited, a little nervous for sure, and thanking God for the support of my boyfriend and friends (who think it's the best idea ever :) ). I think you're going to do GREAT labronson, if this is what you really want to do. And I think what's true of anything is that age, or aptitude, or degree-track, or class intensity, or any reason we give ourselves only ever "matter" when we're doing something that, in our gut, we know we're doing for the wrong reasons, or we really don't want to be doing at all. If it's what you want, go for it. Also, I was recommended to start volunteering at a hospital - to get a feel for the profession as well as to start undersatnding where you'd like to work (departments & specialities) and the hospital environment. I thought this was great advise when given to me, and it might be something to consider. Plus there is so much information (forums, blogs, Web site etc.) out there that you can find something that fits you perfectly in the field. Good luck!! |

| Posted about 3 years ago I know of 2 women who went back to have their BSN completed after a few years of working. One was 30 when she went back to school and the second closer to 40. I think it takes more persistence to be studying at an older age, when you have much more distractions. On the other side you are more mature, and you have the experience of work that the younget students don't yet have. nursing classes |

| Posted about 3 years ago I am 37 and hope to be starting August 2010. I was a little apprehensive at first because of my age, but it doesn't seem to be a factor as much in the healthcare fields as in some others. Besides, with the world economy the way it is and so many people losing their 401k or their house many are not able to retire or are coming back to work wich means an even more variety of ages.
