Posted over 3 years ago I know a person that has had some problems with the law. However she wants to be a nurse. She's had one charge of prostitution and another I'm not sure of. Does this prohibit her from Nursing? |

| Posted over 3 years ago As long its not a felony, and it depends on the felony. I had a friend that I went to nursing school with, she had a assalt felony on her record. It was cleared up, but the State still gave her a hard time when she had to produce fingerprints, she had to drop out of the nursing program, she had to keep appealing it, until finally it cleared, but each time she wants to advance in nursing, she will have to go through this rigorous process. I would advice her to check with the State Boards of Nursing to see what they check for, and the time span to wait to be cleared. Good luck to your friend. |

| Posted over 3 years ago It will depend a lot on what the other charge was. Prostitution should not cause her difficulty, depending on how prudish the Board is. A charge involving theft or violence will cause problems, felony or not. If it was a long time ago and there were no other charges, they may give her a pass. If it's a drug or alcohol charge, then she may have to complete the Chemical Dependancy course, and work on a restricted license at first, especially if it was a recent charge (less than 5 years). Each BON is different, and each case is different. The Board decides these issues on a case by case basis. Usually they won't make a ruling until a candidate applies for a license. Contact your local Board. Good luck! Theala |
