LOL;  If you can speak Latin, then you have the basis for Spanish, Italian, and French.  A four year Latin student could be dropped into any of those countries and read the signs, read a menu, and even glance at a newspaper.  If you are interested in  any type of medical, biology or legal career, then you have the 'root words' for a lot of very important terms.  Students that Take Latin, also score higher on both the Math and Verbal portion of SAT's by a significant percentage.

I encourage all of my kids, to take at least two years of Latin.  My son, Zach, who at one time wanted to be a lawyer, plans on taking a full four years of Latin.  He has changed career paths and anticipates becoming a MD.

Here's what some Colleges have to say about Latin;

'The study of Latin is also the study of history, art, music, theatre, philosphy, law, literature, laboratory science, and more'  Teresa Hudkins;  Willamette University

'The study of Roman culture which typically accompanies Latin study informs the study of any Western literature, art, or culture as well......If Latin were dead, every Western culture and language would be also bereeft of life'  Matthew Potts admissions counselor, University of Notre Dame

'Latin trains abstract thinking, provides a key to all modern Romance languages, is a model for interdiciplinary study (language, history and culture)'  Michael C Behnke, Vice President for Enrollment, University of Chicago

Thank you for that much needed lesson in etymology.. however I am aware of the basis of the ROMANCE LANGUAGES. I am somewhat fluid in Italian.. can get around with my Spanish and at one time was quite fluent in accentless Farsi.. ( An Indo-Euopean language unrelated to Arabic )

I am sure if your kids are alive when Einstien's Theory of Special Realtivity is disproven and they can time travel.. getting tickets to the Coluseum in Rome will be a piece of cake.

Man will not be free until the last lawyer is strangled with the entrails of the last priest.

it's Relativity and Colosseum,  I hope that your spelling in Italian and 'accentless Farci' fare better, then your English spelling.  :)

I think they're going to hold a special election. I thought I heard they are choosing Republican and Democrat to run. I never understnad this. I mean when Ted Kennedy died, they appointed someone, but I think re-election was close, so they did that. I thought They'd do the same for this seat, but I heard there's going to be a special election. Must have something to do with how long the seat will be open.
