The six-foot-four Lesnar, who has to cut weight to make the UFC heavyweight limit of 265 pounds, said he had been ailing for some time last year, before falling seriously ill during a trip to Canada. What had started as flu-like symptoms was upgraded to mononucleosis and then diverticulosis.

UFC champ Brock Lesnar slams Canadian health care

Asked about the low point during the last few months of his illness, Lesnar said: "Probably the lowest moment was getting care from Canada."

"They couldn't do nothing for me," he noted in a later media conference call Wednesday. "It was like I was in a Third World country."

"I'm just stating the facts here and that's the facts," he continued. "I love Canada. I own property in Canada but if I had to choose between getting care in Canada or the United States, I definitely want to be in the United States. Canadians, don't get me wrong here. Listen I love Canada, some of the best people and best hunting in the world. I have family up there. But I wasn't at the right facility. And it makes sense for me to say that."

Lesnar, who makes his home in Minnesota, refused to say where he was treated in Canada although he talked of his wife driving him "in excruciating pain" to the border.

"I knew that I had to get out of there. And my wife saved my life. She got me out of there and drove 100 miles an hour to get me down to Bismarck, North Dakota, to Medcenter One (hospital) and got me with Dr. (Brent) Buderer and his staff, and that doctor there saved my career and saved my life."

My GOD.. it is now crystal clear...All it took was a semi-literate guy who's job is beating the crap out of others to illuminate the horrible health care in Canada.

this is called ANECDOTAL EVIDENCE.

the PLURAL of ANECDOTE is not DATA.

I had no idea influenza, mononucleosis and diverticulitis were related.

Yes, lets automatically discount any firsthand personal experiences.  LOL, especially if we don't agree with them.

Right, Kitty, don't you know that no one is entitled to an opinion, and especially should not be providing any actual EVIDENCE that the system may be just a tad bit flawed???  Seriously now, if the truth gets out, what will become of Obamas wonderful new reform that evidently is good enough for the American people but not the Goverment officials?

ANECDOAL?  I'm sorry, I wasn't able to locate that term in Merriam Webster.

hi all haven't you missed me?  To know if this hospital was really so bad, we would have to know where in Canada it was, what size it is , is it a rural hospital?  What other kinds of hospitals has he been to in the US?  has he ever been to a run down rural hospital in the middle of nowhere USA?  Maybe his comparisons are not that good. i know of people in the last month in the US in a major metropolitan city who had their son misdiagnosed with gastroenteritis and ended up with a ruptured appy because the doc didn't do the right labs and exam...  Not a third world type of hospital and once again a major US city.  Care can be substandard anywhere and not just in a system like Canada.  i do not discount what he said or his perception merely the conclusion that all Canadian care is bad.

So we all can agree that crappy healthcare can occur anyway.  That has always been my point, when everyone chimes in "Well the WHO ranks us %^^".  We face challenges in healthcare that other countries don't face.  I think this country overall gives pretty good healthcare, our biggest problem is cost, and IMHO making the Government in charge just changes who the thieves are.  We'll still get robbed, and the government just gets fatter.  You know, Hitler campaigned on healthcare for every German citizen too.  I'm a capitalist.  I'd rather see the $$$ in the private sector than make the fat cat politicians fatter.  Lets face it, the Majority of the ones that make the most money, have the best healthcare, the best retirement plans and the best security are the government politicians and NOT the private sector.
