I have always considered nursing, but at one time I was an adult entertainer. I have heard that because of that i can not be a RN....is this true? Does anyone know?

Hi - I'm an attorney, formerly a State Regulatory Officer (New Jersey).

There are two condsiderations - first, any criminal record may or may not preclude licensing. It depends on your State Board of Nursing regulations - many Boards deal with such matters on a case by case basis.

Second, nursing regs usually require "Good moral chatacter." This obviously depends on how your Board views things. If I was making the decision, your former career would not interfere with licensing, but only your State Board can give you guidance in this area.

WHOAHHH   You need a license to do that?.. Is it issued by the state? Or, like an FFL or Pilot's license,  the federal government? Is there a licensure exam? And, can i apply to be a proctor for it?

Seriously... I am a bit dissapointed someone took your post literally. Your chat name gave you away.

If i am mistaken.. could you add me as a friend and post pictures? Maybe I have seen your work.

I am now going to try to get onto the Missouri board of nursing ..... you want a license here... I am here for you.... I, for one, would LOVE to see more adult entertainers in nursing.

The more I think about it, the more I laugh... my comments above were of a nonsexual nature....I get a 'Nastygram" from the omnipotent and omniscient 'EDITOR'.......

I was wondering if Ms. Zimmerman was chastized for admitting to be an all nude dancer?

I would LOVE to see more adult entertainers in nursing.. it would beat the heck out of the many many many priggish religious zealots that roam the forums on this site.

On the serious side of this conversation, I live in Texas and that license you were required to have sounds like it was only a city or county thing. I am aquainted with a few dancers in my town and none of them are require to have a license. It shouldn't interfere with you getting a nursing license. A few of the people I went to school with had criminal records and were able to get licensed. The BNE looks at what kind of charge it was, how long ago, and the disposition. Since you say you have a clear record I think you should go for it. Nursing is awesome! I am 53 and have only been nursing for 6 years and always tell every young person I meet to think about it as a career. I wish I had started years ago. You won't find a better way to support your family that is also rewarding and have as much job security as in nursing. Good luck and I hope you go for it!
