How many fellow nurses got stuck at work because the snow storm?   Isn't  funny how  us nurses who live 25 miles from work make it in. And those who live 5 miles away call off.

My management does not put up with that stuff.  They will come to pick up nurses with their vehicles.  Those nurses will be unoffically blacklisted (i.e. bad things may happen).  That is one of my two jobs and the one I am looking to replace now.  They make their own rules to some degree.  I've seen some very good nurses get the short end of the stick there.  All the same, I know that some people use the snow storms for a call in excuse in different cases.

In my township the fire companies enlist volunteers with 4-wheel-drive vehicles to drive essential personnel to and from the hospital.

Every place I worked would provide rides; either the community would help out or people that worked at the facility.  When there is snow we were never allowed to call out and if you did you would be written up unless you had a MD note to excuse you from work.  Of course you were allowed to be late seeing that you might just be waiting for your ride.  The really bad thing is that they would get you to work, but I always worked either 2nd and they were not so willing to come back and take you home.
