This is for my many friends in the Philippines - I'm posting it in a Forum so that the most members might see it - G1TANO has posted a couple of excellent news items concerning this.

Here is a quote from the Asia Pacific News:

"In the Philippines, which has seen a series of devastating natural disasters over the past year, authorities warned coastal communities in the east of the archipelago to prepare for possible evacuation."

We don't yet know how powerful the tsunami might be when it reaches there, but pleae, if you or your friends or families live on the eastern coast of the Philippines, please let them know to get away from the ocean. As we have seen in the news, a tsunami can be very deadly.

Unlike Hawaii (where it is noiw headed), which has good communications, parts of the Philippines might still be unaware of this.

Thank you for this information, i have informed my friends and relatives about this already most especially those living nearby shore.

Tsunamis are almost always caused by earthquakes. Unfortunately we have experienced a strong earthquake (magnitude of 6.1) which disrupted  President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo's speech in Tuguegarao City, Tuesday morning, The quake was also felt in the nearby provinces of Ilocos Sur and Isabela.

Let's just hope and pray, that all people maybe safe from all of these devastation.
