C-Diff and Levaquin

Posted about 3 years ago I have seen this many many times. A physician will prescribe Levaquin which is well known for causing C-Diff and will not prescribe Flagyl therapy along with it. This puts the patient at risk everytime. I've even suggested it to many physicians who do not prescribe them together and they blow it off and 4 days after levaquin therapy starts the patient ends up with C-Diff. Then it takes a month or better in some cases for them to get over it. In this society with more and more geriatric patients in the hosp. then not. Why are Physicians not getting this? Ugh, it's very frustrating to say the least. Sometimes I think it's arrogance and it puts the client at risk. Why can't they just listen to their eyes and ears THE NURSES. |

| Posted about 3 years ago I suggest to you that you bring in in scientific literature supporting what you state an present it to them. Review case studies where patients were given levaquin alone vs. levaquin with Flagyl. Your discussion will be stronger if you present it in a manner that they can not refute. You will often encounter arrogance. Present this to your head nurse prior to presenting it to the physicians. |
