advice for head injury

Posted about 3 years ago Ok, my student was helicoptered off mountain by ski patrol. He fell skiing, knock to head. Wearing helmet. Has bruising to left forehead. Vomited twice in first hour post injury. Very sleepy. Patient states was never unconscious. I caught up with my student in the emerency room. He feels much better now, but the hospital doctor does not think a CT scan needed. Was surprised at this. Some countries do a CT for everything, while other places do not. I want to push for a CT but the doctor insists one is not needed. They will beĀ holding onto him for six hours then plan to discharge if all ok. The student/patient is at a boarding school and I'm not happy leaving him alone in a dorm tonight. I plan on insisting he is admitted overnight for observation. I feel in this case a CT is needed, especially if they plan to send him backĀ to school for the night. Any advice welcome. I live on the side of a mountain in the Alps and help is often half an hour away. What do you think? |
