Posted about 3 years ago Greek yogurt seems to be a new craze. It sure it thick as compared the the Regular. Personally, I still like Stoneyfield Organic yogurt best. On a low glycemic diet, you can combine a small serving of greek yogurt, with a fruit, and have a balanced low glycemic snack. That is pretty filling. :) Joyce Harrell, RN, OCN

| Posted about 3 years ago When I was a kid (a thousand years ago) yogurt was only used by our Greek-American friends,. It was thought of an odd ethnic food. I remember it WAS thick. I think the Greeks knew it's health benefits. A few years later it became fashionable - especially after a ton of sugar and flavor wa added! So... My question is: What exactly is the advantage of Greek yogurt? |

| Posted about 3 years ago To me, it looks like if you use Greek yogurt, the protein content is higher per serving. This is great when you want to make balanced nutritional smoothies. But, companies are adding sugar, and sweetners to even this, so unless you get plain, I don't really see much benefit. I have a book about making yogurt cheese. I also have a yogurt strainer. You can put a whole container of yogurt in it, and the liquid, some of the fat, and sugar will strain out, making a cream cheese consistancy. It is supposed to be less calories, and a little better for you than cream cheese. I haven't compared greek yogurt to yogurt cheese, but it looks to me to be very similar. I use greek yogurt primarily in smoothies as the protein source when I want a balanced low glycemic meal or snack. I use plain, and add stevia or agave nectar as some sweetener, and also add something like blueberries or strawberries. I need to wipe the dust off my yogurt cheese book and see what else I can do with it. Joyce Harrell, RN, OCN
