Posted almost 6 years ago It's often mentioned that correctional nurses make more than their hospital counterparts. Is this true? If so, does it compensate for working in an environment that is so secluded? |

| Posted almost 6 years ago Yes this is true, correctional nursing pays LPN's at least 20.00 / hour. But it is a risky field. I have worked in one county jail on staff, and several prisons through a agency. I was lucky that during all those times I never felt threaten. You also have to look at the fact that you are working side by side with law enforcement that are set in their ways because corretional nursing has not been such a big field until recently in the state I live in. Therefore there are alot of policical issues involved. Issues that were always sweeped under the rug now are not. Its a whole different world once you pass through those doors. I have to say when I was in this field of nursing I was accepted by the officers, that is not always the case. Also there are some incidents that happen that the public never hears about. |

| Posted almost 6 years ago Thanks for the insight Kmosier. What kind of stories have you heard from other correctional nurses regarding their interaction with law enforcement? |
