I just got my first Stethoscope (its the Littmann Classic II S.E.)for Christmas and I need to get an ID tag for it. Does anyone have the Littmann one? Is it nice and durable? Is there something else that is better? I want an engraved one that will stay put and last for as long as the scope.

Jaba, I do have the Littmann tags on my stethoscope and it's very durable and difficult to remove once you have it in place. I would suggest that for your safety, not to have your first and last name on your stethoscope ID tag. I would also strongly suggest that you buy a less expensive stethoscope for use in classroom and in clinicals, a few of my classmates have already lost several stethoscopes, either in the classroom or on clinicals, and none have been returned. Save the Classic II for when you are at a more permanent location.

Thank you for your input. I am definitely going to get a tag for it with first intial and and last name only. I am glad to hear that the tag is durable and stays put. I never thought about using a cheaper one for clinicals and such though... I kinda want to learn on the one I am going to be using, ya know.

I bought my Littman stethoscope (Master Classic II) from allheart.com. When I made the purchase there was a small charge if you wanted the tubing engraved. I had it engraved with first initial-last name. It has served me well so far. The only stupid thing is that it points outward to the client. I suppose I could bend the earpieces in the opposite direction, but I am so afraid of screwing them up beyond use. I'll just live with it. I completely understand Al_Chamizo's warning because after only four weeks in clinical, I misplaced my stethoscope -my instructor borrowed it and I didn't note where she set it down because I wa distracted with the patient. (I did get it back -the facility is very small.) We were warned by our instructors that (not just) dr.'s will ask to borrow them and you both may get distracted and 'Poof!' it's gone...

I have the Littmann Name Plate that fits around the area where the tubing meets together and I love it. My boyfriend got in engraved b/c it comes with a silver name plate (and one you can just write on.) But it does stay in place without coming off. I would get a good one that not just anyone can pull off really fast and walk away with!

Thank you all I am going to order the 3M one from Littmann tonight. I just wanted to make sure that it is going to be durable and not easily slipped off before I wasted the money.

I've had several Littman stethescopes in my career. Starting with the Classic, moving up to the Cardiology II and to the Master Cardiology I've had for about 6 years now. My wife surprised me on a birthday with the all black "stealth" model which blends right in with our black scrubs. I honestly have never had more than one of the plastic tags on any scope. What I do try to do is to find inconspicuous spots on the metal pieces that I can engrave either my initials or a portion of my name. I have been too anal to allow my scopes out of my sight for more than a minute because they do travel. I would encourage you to use your Littman during your clinicals just for the reason you give. You want to be familiar with your own piece of equipment.

I used a Solu-Medrol bottle and made a tag out of it.  I'll get a picture and post it on my profile.

I just always (when at work) keep mine with me and have never had a problem.

mooncrystal, I like the idea of the dog tag from a pet shop.

Has anyone tried an Ultrascope? I like the look of these, but they're expensive & I am planning to work on a tele floor and need a good stethoscope; any suggestions?
